Update: Adult RE- Welcoming Congregation

Our Welcoming Congregation Program's Adult RE is off to a wonderful start! We have had a great turn out for each of the last three sessions. This Sunday's topic will be "What We Learned and How We Learned It: Gender Consciousness and Homophobia." Please join us. The topic on 8/18 will be Transgender 101 (http://www.uua.org/lgbtq/identity/25348.shtml), and 8/25 will be Bisexuality 101 (http://www.uua.org/lgbtq/identity/25346.shtml). The links direct you to UUA's handouts about both of these topics if you would like to read up before next week's Adult RE. If you have any questions, thoughts, concerns, ideas, or would just like to learn more about where we are in the process and future steps, please see any Welcoming Congregation Committee member (Mary Cunningham, Board Liaison, Inclusive Language; Randy Culp, Co-Chair; Carmen Saenz, CoChair Community Outreach/Social Action; Ron Hagar, Adult RE; Melissa Garn, Childrens RE ;John Moody, Youth RE; Judy Shofner, Worship Team Liaison).

The Ministerial Search Team has been busy.

We have had a retreat where we got organized and prepared for the task ahead......BUT the next step requires your input. We want to know what is important to you as far as the direction our fellowship takes and what you hope for in our next minister. Our plan is to survey the fellowship in two ways. One will be a computerized

survey that you will have the opportunity to complete at the church. The other will be small group discussions, also at the church. The computer survey will be done one person at a time in private. We will have sign up sheets for the small group discussions which will include 6 or 7 people per group. Be thinking about what is important to you in the future of the UUFW. We need your input. We'll be starting the process mid August.

Childrens Religious Education

Just two more weeks left in August and in our Share Your Passion summer curriculum. Were gearing up to launch new curriculum in both the PHROGS (8 and up) class as well as the Pollywogs (4-7) class. Well be digging into Dr. Seuss in the PHROGS class. Were still kicking around ideas, but have it narrowed down to a couple of popular choices for the Pollywogs. Well also be planting our seedlings very soon for our social action project to donate seedlings to Talitha Koum for their garden. Were all very excited to offer our children the opportunity to do work that will benefit other children in our community.

Update: Social Action at UUFW

Carmen Saenz provides the following update regarding our social action project to provide meals for the families of Talitha Koum. You can learn more about the Talitha Koum Institute at www.talithakoum.org The Talitha Koum program is up to a great start. We have formed a cooking and shopping team which are being headed up by Ashley Blinkhorn (cooking and menu planning), and Marty van Wagner (grocery shopping), we are still looking for folks that would like to assist with prep work (browning meat, chopping veggies, etc.) and clean up on Sunday 9/8 after services and clean up after final cooking on Tuesday 9/10. There are lots of opportunities to help in a number of ways and on a number of days. Please contact Carmen Saenz (Carmen.saenz.31@gmail.com) if you can help in any of these areas. UUA News
The Multicultural Ministries Sharing Project
Multicultural Growth and Witness is happy to announce the launch of the Multicultural Ministries 2013 Sharing Project.* This groundbreaking project is designed to solicit input from Unitarian Universalists (UUs) historically marginalized by ability, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, race, and/or ethnicity about their unique experiences and ministry needs within Unitarian Universalism. The focus of this project is to help congregational leaders and Unitarian Universalist Association staff understand where we are now and what we need to be well-equipped to meet the ministry needs of people seeking a liberal religious home in the 21st century. Multicultural Ministries plans to publish at least a preliminary report during the 2014 Thirty Days of Love (January 18February 16, 2014).
