By reading the Bible as literature, it becomes the text that I interpret using the context of my life. By reading the Bible as Scripture, it becomes the context that I need to interpret the text of my life.

His baptism shows how Jesus recognized his unique call and mission from the Father.
His baptism shows how Jesus recognized his unique call and mission from the Father. Jesus identifies himself with repentant sinners, and demonstrates his full humility. His redemptive ministry begins.

POLITICAL POWER
If I were the son of God, shouldnt I be king?
FORTUNE
POSSESSIONS
His mission was not to satisfy material nor physical needs. His mission was to offer them no one else can give -- divine forgiveness and possibly a sharing in Gods life.
FAME POPULARITY
His mission was not to seek a name for himself through extraordinary deeds. His mission was to bring people to the Father while rejecting prestige and reputation.
POLITICAL POWER
He rebuked Satan. He clarifies further his mission. His mission was to bring Gods reign on earth. Only God can be king and deserves worship.
PRAYER
I very much believed that the core moment of Jesus public life was the baptism in the Jordan, when Jesus heard the affirmation, You are my beloved on whom my favor rests. That is the core experience of Jesus. He is reminded in a deep, deep way of who he is. The temptations in the desert are temptations to move him away from that spiritual identity.
Friday, August 16, 13
He was tempted to believe he was someone else: You are the one who can turn stone into bread. You are the one who can jump from the temple. You are the one who can make others bow to your power. Jesus said, No, no, no. I am the Beloved from God. I think his whole life is continually claiming that identity in the midst of everything.
Friday, August 16, 13
There are times in which he is praised, times when he is despised or rejected, but he keeps saying, Others will leave me alone, but my Father will not leave me alone. I am the beloved Son of God. I am the hope found in that identity. - Henri Nouwen (Jesus: A Gospel)

What is the Kingdom of God? How did Jesus establish it?

KINGDOM OF GOD
Friday, August 16, 13
KINGDOM OF GOD
The Kingdom of God is both a present and a future reality. We may imagine it to be a place (an actual kingdom) that we can visit anytime or simply heaven that we aspire for when we die. However, it is more than that. Jesus teaches us a different Kingdom. It is a reality wherein God is king and His will is done on earth as it is in heaven. It is a reality that he asks those who believe to build in the here and now.
Friday, August 16, 13
Whenever Gods rule is present. Its a thing of the past and seems like a reality of the future. It can be made PRESENT today.
IMMINENT
It is already happening; breaking through Jesus Christ. The need for change of heart metanoia.
NEW RULE
It aims at restoring the relationship between God and human persons -a deep and intimate communion.
FOR ALL
Everyone is called to enter the Kingdom. The Kingdom is NOT the Church. It is a way to the Kingdom but not the only way.
Friday, August 16, 13
The kingdom belongs to those who are poor and ADDRESSED lowly, those who TO THE are dependent on ANAWIM God.
For Jesus, the Kingdom was the work of God. And everything that Jesus said or did was evidence that the Kingdom was beginning to break into the world. His acts of healing and compassion, his words of wisdom, were all directed toward creating the kind of life that would characterize the Kingdom over which Yahweh himself would be master.
- Donald Senior, C.P .
from Jesus: A Gospel Portrait)
KINGDOM OF GOD
The Kingdom is the concern of everyone: individuals, society, and the world. Working for the kingdom means acknowledging and promoting Gods activity, which is present in human history and transforms it. Building the kingdom means working for liberation from evil in all its forms. In a word, the kingdom of God is the manifestation and the realization of Gods plan of salvation in all its fullness.
John Paul II - Redemptoris Missio 16

READ.QUESTION.UNDERSTAND
Friday, August 16, 13
The Kingdom of God is a place or destination, like heaven, where we can look forward to when we die. However, we can only go there when we do all good things here on earth. FALSE
Everything that Jesus said and did is revelatory of the Kingdom of God. Every teaching that Jesus made gives us a better understanding of the Kingdom while every miracle or any act of Jesus for that matter gives us a glimpse of how the Kingdom of God is like. TRUE
Friday, August 16, 13
The Kingdom of God is only a future reality. We will not be able to witness anything about the Kingdom during our lifetime. It is only when we are with God can we fully realize the presence of Gods Kingdom. FALSE
We have nothing to do with the Kingdom of God. We are just to wait for Gods Kingdom to come. While we wait, we need to be the best we can be so that we will be qualified and eligible to enter the Kingdom. FALSE
Our everyday experiences with others can lead to the building of Gods Kingdom here and now. As long as we allow love, peace and justice to prevail, we allow the Gods reign to happen in our own lives. TRUE
The Kingdom of God is both the present and end-of-time reality that God is the Lord of all and his will is at work. We know Gods will is at work when His power makes love, reconciliation, peace and justice possible. We experience the fullness of the Kingdoms realization in and through Jesus Christ.
