As we continue to be vigilant towards the Influenza A (H1N1) Virus, our Medical Department
has prepared additional guidelines on control and other prevention measures which are
applicable not only in the workplace but also at home. We at Maxicare will continue to provide
you with up-to-date data on ensuring your employees’ and their dependents’ wellbeing
throughout these times.

Please see the attached Annex A for our suggested Additional Guidelines for Influenza A
(H1N1) Prevention and Control Measures and Annex B for the most recent updates on the
Influenza A(H1N1) Virus.

ANNEX A

ADDITIONAL GUIDELINES FOR INFLUENZA A H1N1 PREVENTION & CONTROL


MEASURES

I. Case Identification

1. Employees who traveled to areas with confirmed cases of Influenza A H1N1 and who
are in close contact (ex. living in a household with a traveler) must self quarantine at
home for 10 days.

1.1 Employees who remained asymptomatic after 10 days may return to work
after being issued with a fit-to-work certificate by the company physician.

1.2 Employees who developed signs & symptoms of influenza-like illness (fever,
cough, sore throat, stuffy nose, chills, head/body ache, fatigue, vomiting &
diarrhea) during the first 10 days of self quarantine must immediately seek
consult with a physician for proper diagnosis and medical management. A fit-
to-work certificate signed by the attending physician shall be presented to the
HRD upon return to work.

2. Employees who traveled to areas not identified by the WHO to have confirmed cases of
Influenza A H1N1 and who are not in close contact must self quarantine at home for 4
days.

2.1 Employees who remained asymptomatic after 4 days may return to work after
being issued with a fit-to-work certificate by the company physician.

2.2 Employees who developed signs & symptoms of influenza-like illness (fever,
cough, sore throat, stuffy nose, chills, head/body ache, fatigue, vomiting &
diarrhea) during the first 4 days of self quarantine must immediately seek
consult with a physician for proper diagnosis and medical management. A fit-
to-work certificate signed by the attending physician shall be presented to the
HRD upon return to work.

II. Disinfection Procedures

1. Employees shall disinfect their individual workstations (table, telephones, and other
frequently touched objects) with alcohol at least twice a day.
2. Housekeeping personnel shall clean and disinfect the workplace using appropriate
chemical disinfectants (chlorine bleaching solution and 1:100 phenol based
disinfectant) at least once a day. Commonly-touched surfaces like door knobs, railings,
etc… shall be disinfected as frequent as possible.
3. Housekeeping personnel shall wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipments (ex.
masks, disposable gloves) while disinfecting the workplace.
4. The air conditioning filters shall be inspected monthly and replaced immediately when
necessary. If filters must be re-used, it should be cleaned and disinfected.

Influenza A “H1N1” in the Philippines as of June 1, 2009:
The rise of confirmed cases of Influenza A H1N1 to 21 is still no cause for the public to panic,
health authorities said. National Epidemiological head, Dr. Eric Tayag said that there is no
community level outbreak in the Philippines, adding a four level warning level system is in
place to deal with the problem, “We have no community outbreak yet, but have issued for
Department of Health, Department of Education, Commission on Higher Education at Technical
and Educational Skills Development Authority” Dr. Tayag said.

There are 29 students in Nueva Ecija, being monitored by health and school officials. The
students came in contact with a 19 year old female who just arrived from the United States
with Flu like symptoms. Health officials in the province advised school officials not to panic.
