many returning students and welcoming all our new freshmen and continuing Honors students. On behalf of the Honors College faculty and staff, I want to wish each of you a safe, happy, fun, interesting, and productive Fall semester! We have lots of wonderful events planned for the coming academic year, starting this week! (For details, see elsewhere in this newsletter). I especially want to invite all of you to attend the "Nicky's Family" film and discussion on Sunday (4:008:00pm, Brooks Center). This award-winning film highlights the amazing story of a man who saved hundreds of children from the Holocaust--and the extraordinary lives of service those children went on to lead. One of "Nicky's children"--now a man in his eighties--will be joining us for the post-film discussion.

Dixon Fellows Application Due Monday, August 26th. The Dixon Fellows Program is designed for honors students who want an additional challenge and opportunity. A challenge - because you will interact with students and faculty dedicated to living the life of the mind. An opportunity - because your participation as a Dixon Fellow will enrich your undergraduate experience and enable you to assume a position of leadership and responsibility in your community and in the world. The Dixon Fellows experience is a mentor group, 7-9 students (junior fellows) interacting with a professor (senior fellow) who acts as a role-model and guide. These small groups engage in a variety of activities designed to encourage learning and growth outside the classroom; to develop the skills and talents to compete for prestigious national and international fellowships, such as the Rhodes, Marshall, Fulbright, and Truman Scholarships; to gain admission to top graduate and professional schools; and to enhance their personal and professional lives. All Honors Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors are encouraged to apply. Applications are due no later than Monday, August 26th at 4pm. More information and a link to the application can be found on the Dixon Fellows webpage.
