generate data on the earth’s structure, mountain building and related
processes in the Himalaya, (b) to carry out research for the
development of new concepts and models on various geo-scientific
aspects of the Himalaya, and (c) to provide and promote effective
linkage between various scientific and research agencies,
laboratories and professional organizations working in the country
in the field of Himalayan Geology and related areas. The Institute is
also charged with serving as a National Reference Centre forthe
Geology of the Himalaya and to provide basic data and high level
expertise to academic institutions, research organizations and
industry in the country. The Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology
has its own research geoscientists currently working on several
projects under the following specialized areas: 1. Structural
Geology and Tectonics, 2. Petrology and Geochemistry, 3.
Biostratigraphy and Sedimentology, 4. Geomorphology and
Environmental Geology, 5. Seismicity and Seismotectonics
of Himalaya. Qualifications Essential: (a) Doctorate degree in
Earth and related Sciences and atleast 15 years research and /or
teaching experience, of which at least 3 years should be in the
next lower grade in the pre-revised pay scale of Rs. 18,400-500-
22,400 or 8 years experience in the pre-revised pay scale of
16,400-450-20,000. (b) Original research work, (c) Administrative
experience, (d) Programming and leading research teams, and (e)
Organisational experience in scientific institutions.
Desirable: Experience of research work in Himalaya or similar
terrain.
Job Requirements: The Director will have the overall
administrative control of the Institute and will provide high level
leadership to the Institute in identification of research programmes
and projects of national and international relevance in various
specialized fields of earth sciences related to Himalaya; to enthuse
scientists of the Institute; generate creativity and excellence and
create an atmosphere conducive to harmonious functioning of the
organization. He will interact and establish rapport with national
and international academic and professional institutions and
specialists dealing with Himalayan terrain, and ensure multi-
disciplinary and multi-institutional cooperation towards fulfillment
of the objectives of the Institute.

: The appointment will be for a period of 5 years or up to the date

l Written Test:
l The question paper will be bilingual (Hindi & English) and
of objective type.
l The part I question paper will have questions of English &
General Knowledge, Science and Mathematics. The
standard of question paper will be that of 10+2. The
part II question paper will have additional sections of
Electronics, Electrical and Mechanical. The candidate will
be required to attempt only one of the sections, which will
be as per the specialisation in which he has completed
the three years Diploma. However, final allocation of
branch will be done at Integrated Headquarters, Ministry
of Defence (Navy) which will be indicated in call up letters
dispatched to the candidates. Duration of question paper
(both parts) will be of 90 minutes.
l Physical Fitness Test (PFT):
l Qualifying in Physical Fitness Test is mandatory for
selection,
l PFT will consist of 1.6 Km run to be completed in 7 minutes,
25 squat ups (Uthak Baithak) and 10 Push-ups. Candidates
undergoing PFT will do so at their own risk.
Medical Standards:
l Medical examination will be conducted by authorised
military doctors as per medical standard prescribed in
current regulations applicable to sailors on entry.
l Minimum height 157 cms. Weight and Chest should be

l Good mental, medical and physical health free from any
disease/ disability, likely to interfere with efficient

interview at INS Chilka, will have to undergo Final Enrolment
Medical Examination at INS Chilka prior to enrolment. Candidates

for training. No “appeal” is permitted after the Enrolment Medical

l Training: The training for the course will commence on 01 Feb
2010, with 9 weeks Basic Training at INS Chilka followed by 4

SELECTION PROCEDURE

The selection procedure is as follows:
