From the Pastor’s Desk
A special thanks to Bishop Baker, the
My Dear People:
Today is a great day for the 58 First
Communicants of our Parish School of
Religion program. Pray for them, that they
receive Jesus with much faith and love.
Congratulations to each one of them.
Also, next Sunday is also a great day for the
First Communicants from OLS School.
And, there is another important DATE and
TIME for the Parish School of Religion. Next
Sunday, all of the PSR classes and parents
will meet in the gym for attendance awards at
10:15 a.m. It will be the last class day for
Sister Joan and Diane Zicarelli. We would
like as many parents as possible from the
program to come and bid farewell to Sister
Joan and Diane Zicarelli.
Sister Joan and Diane have steered the
great ship of PSR for seven years together
and have indeed raised the bar of quality
with their great catechists and great
organizational abilities. Sister Joan has led
the program with others for a total of 12
years. They will be greatly missed for they
have worked relentlessly for the spiritual
welfare of our children.
This Thursday, the Holy Spirit will be
imparted to 65 of our eighth-graders by
Bishop Baker. We all desperately need the
Spirit of God, the Spirit of Strength, Wisdom,
Understanding and Right judgment! With
Confirmation we have a special claim on the
Spirit when we encounter those moments in
which we need these gifts.
Confirmation contains the word “FIRM.” This
Sacrament firms up our baptismal
commitment. We can’t think of confirmation
without thoughts of our Baptism in which we
became members of God’s family and have a
covenant with Him. It is our baptism which is
so enhanced by confirmation.
Pray for our Confirmandi, wish them well and
know that these are the leaders of the
Church of tomorrow.

High School Youth Group will meet this
Sunday at 10:00 a.m. and this Wednesday
night from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. We meet in the 3rd
floor Youth Room in the Family Life Center.

PARISH CONFIRMATION – Confirmation
practice for all Candidates and their sponsors will
be Wednesday night, April 29th, at 7 p.m. in the
Church. Confirmation will be Thursday, April 30th,
at 7 p.m. in the Church.
Parents, please check with your child’s sponsor
to make sure that he or she received the
information regarding practice on April 29 and the
ceremony. Letters to sponsors were mailed from
the PSR office in April.
The May Crowning will be on Sunday, May 3
before the 8:30 a.m. Mass. PSR First
Communicants are invited to wear their First
Communion dresses and process in this beautiful
devotion to Mary. Please bring flowers to place
in front of the Blessed Mothers statue.

The Adult Education Faith Forum Series Grand

will be held on Sunday, May 17th, in the Parish

Good Shepherd Sunday is observed each year
on the Fourth Sunday of Easter, but it is also
known as “World Day of Prayer for Vocations.”
This is the 46th anniversary of this special day
established by Pope Paul VI to promote the
importance of the Catholic vocations, especially
those to the priesthood and religious life. The
Church needs more “shepherds” for the Lord’s
flock.
Pope Benedict XVI points out that we all are
called through our vocation of marriage, single
life, consecrated life, diaconate or priesthood to
build the blessings on our Vocations.

The Birmingham Cursillo Community will be
having our April ULTREYA on Tuesday, April 28th
at 6:30 p.m, at Our Lady of Sorrows Church
Parish Hall. All Cursillistas are invited for a fun-
filled spiritual evening of music, prayer, and the
witness talk by Rob Henger, and dinner. Please
bring a pot-luck-dish, or grocery store item to
share. The next Men’s Cursillo Weekend is April
30 to May 3, and the next Women’s Cursillo
Weekend is May 21-24. Both weekends will be
held at Sacred Heart Monastery in Cullman.

the Church teaches about Annulments, we
encourage you to join us and learn more about
the Declaration of Nullity Sunday May 3 at 11:30
a.m. in Room 102 of the Family Life Center for a
discussion on Annulments. Anne Marie Verchot,
RCIA Director at Our Lady of Sorrows and a
Diocesan Trained Advocate on the Declaration of
Nullity, will be leading the meeting. Catholics who
have completed the process are also encouraged
