    THE WORKFORCE INVESTMENT ACT (WIA) DISLOCATED WORKER PROGRAM.
    To see if you qualify for these services, take the following steps.
    STEP 1: Call the CTWorks office closest to you to schedule a time to see if you can be certified as a
    “Dislocated Worker” by the Connecticut Department of Labor. Certified dislocated workers may
    be eligible for one-on-one job development, retraining funds, special consideration for financial
    aid for themselves or immediate family members, and additional support services.
    STEP 2: Attend a CTWorks Workforce Investment Act (WIA) orientation/information session. This
    session will provide you with information on the array of free re-employment and supportive
    services available through the CTWorks center including those mentioned in Step 1.

    SPECIAL NOTE: Displaced workers who were employed in CT and who were part of a layoff that affected at least
    10 CT workers offer potential CT employers a $1,500 corporate tax credit. The new job must pay the displaced
    worker at least 75% of the worker’s former wage, and the new employer must retain the displaced worker for at
    least 12 months. Mention this employer benefit during an interview.
    Funds for retraining are not an entitlement and are limited. For more information on the individual
    assistance available for dislocated workers, please call the agency nearest to you.
