2012/2013 Issue No. 20 PRINCIPALS MESSAGE Dear Parents, Greetings to you all!

Friday 21 June 2013

This is the last newsletter of this academic year how quickly it has gone. For me, the highlight has definitely been the great CIS and IB reports, which reflected so well the excellence of our school. These are on the website, so do take a look at them. The recommendations will form the basis of our 2013/2014 Annual Plan, and will be included in the updated three year Strategic Plan. The end of the year brings farewells, which are always sad. Farewell to our departing Year Six students, many of whom have been with us since Year One. We all wish you the very best in your new school and trust that you will always look back on your time at Bradbury with fond memories. Farewell to other departing students and families. Thank you for being a part of our school and for helping to make it the special place that it is. Farewell to the following staff: Brent Taylor ( Year 3 Teacher) who is returning with his family to New Zealand Claire Hudson (Year 5 Teacher) whose job share situation is now at an end Rachel Grantham ( P.E. Part time Teacher) who has won a fulltime position at KGV Aylish Franklin (Year 1 Teacher) but only for a year! Aylish is on a sabbatical and will spend her time back in England with her family. We look forward to welcoming her back in 2014/15. Ingrid Gregory (Year 2 E.A.) who leaves us to go on a Mongolian adventure. Uzma Salim ( Year 4 E.A.) who is altering her career slightly to become a supply teacher. Sian Richardson ( Y5 Part time E.A.) who is returning with her family to England. Jayne Dalmer (Y6 Part time E.A.) who is moving to Jakarta with her family. Anne Cano-Shearer( Y4 Part time E.A.) who joins her husband Doug to enjoy retirement. Many, many wonderful thanks to each of you. You have all been such a vital part of our school and we will join in thanking you. Our best wishes follow you for happiness and success in your next adventure. To all of the Bradbury School Community, thank you for your unfailing support over this year. We have a wonderful school and each of you plays an important part in it. I trust that your summer will be filled with sunshine and family and I look forward to welcoming you all back on 19 August for our new school year. Regards,

Sandra Webster Principal

SCHOOL PRODUCTION: TREASURE ISLAND

What a fantastic performance we were treated to last night! Our students did an amazing job of presenting to us Treasure Island. Our choir, dancers and actors made us all very proud. Thank you to everyone for all of your hard work. A special thank you to Ticker Rankin (drama coach), Angela Hancock (choreographer), Jane Robinson (costumes), students Monty Ingrassia-Hancock (choreography) and Nell Zarrella (production) and of course Gethyn Clothier (director) for making it all happen. It was outstanding! Sandra Webster Principal

MOSQUITO CONTROL IN SCHOOL

Some time ago I asked you to complete our on line survey in regards to your opinion on whether or not to continue to follow an organic i.e. no chemical spraying approach to mosquito control. Thank you to the 12 people who responded. Your answers, especially your comments were extremely useful. We will continue to monitor the situation. We have increased the number of mosquito control machines by two and a bat box has been donated to the school as well, to encourage natural predators. We will remain vigilant in terms of the standing water and clearing out of the drains on a regular basis. Many thanks. Sandra Webster Principal Survey Results: Question Do you support the continuation of an organic approach to mosquito control? Do you support a similar approach to other pest control? Have you notice an increase, in the past month, in the number of mosquito bites on your children? Which, if any, of the following forms of mosquito control does your child use at school? MESSAGE FROM THE P.T.A. CHAIRPERSON

WHAT A FABULOUS YEAR!!! The PTA would like to thank our incredible school community for all their support throughout the year! We have had a very successful year and none of it would have been possible without you! THANK YOU! The 2012-13 Bradbury School Yearbooks have been distributed! They look amazing! The PTA would like to thank Venus Lee and her dedicated team of parents on the Yearbook Committee for such a wonderful collection of school memories for our children. May they bring many smiles as special memories are relived! If you would like to order a copy of the yearbook, we do have copies available. Please send in $150 to Lin Gong in the PTA office. Cash or check is accepted. If you are going to write a check, please make it payable to Bradbury School PTA Limited. As part of the summer works program, plans are in place to finish the lower Y5/6 playground. Not only will the covered playground be resurfaced with a non-slip sports surface, but we are planning to remove the concrete staging! The PTA have allocated another $580,000 for this project. The project will include the dismantling and removal of all concrete staging while maintaing the tree in a supportive concrete column, making good the flooring with new concrete, reinstalling the climbing wall with a safety flooring below, and installing wire mesh seating around the tree. We are very excited about this project and cannot wait to see the finished results in August! The students will certainly have a surprise awaiting them when they return! Whether you are planning a "Staycation" here in Hong Kong or traveling abroad, we wish everyone a safe and relaxing summer. We look forward to seeing everyone in August, refreshed and ready to start a new year. Cassie Jullienne - PTA Chairperson
