Aluminium reinforced composite board for injection mould tooling

*Patent applied for

Description

Cibatool-Express 2000 is a new generation of board specifically designed for tool building applications. While product development has focused on injection moulding applications many other mould uses are envisaged where high strength and excellent thermal resistance are coupled with simple one-step direct milling of the tool. Cibatool-Express Mouldmaking System expands our offering of technology for bridge tooling to take designers and engineers from prototypes to short-run production while shortening the development cycle to final tooling and reducing costs. Accurate, reproducible parts produced via one-step CNC machining Robust production intent plastic parts Little or no finishing required while maintaining CNC accuracy Very fast CNC milling, typically at least 5 times faster than aluminium No internal mould cooling required Hundreds of engineering thermoplastic parts have been produced

Advantages

Applications

Cibatool-Express 2000 has been developed for injection tooling applications. Multiple decreases of milling and benching time have been achieved with a mouldmaking material capable of producing hundreds of injection moulded engineering thermoplastic parts to production tolerance standards

Accessories

Cibatool-Express Sealer No 1 must be used for sealing machined tool surfaces of Cibatool-Express 2000 Boards. Cibatool-Express Sealer No 1 protects the mould from erosion and provides a base coat for mould release during injection moulding. Ciba gel coat SW 5155 resin with HY 5159 hardener can be used to bond abraded and cleaned pieces of Cibatool-Express 2000 board.

Note: These physical properties are reported with typical production batches using standard testing methods. They are provided solely as technical information and do not constitute a product specification. Construction Finished moulds should be sealed with Cibatool-Express Sealer No 1 before use. Moulds should be filled as rapidly as possible during injection. Mould cooling with apparatus such as an "Air Knife" is suggested. Cycle times for standard wallthickness parts typically range from 45 to 120 seconds. A mould supporting structure such as a base or chase is highly recommended.

Safety and handling

In accordance with good industrial practice, handle with due care. Avoid dusty conditions, use adequate ventilation. Avoid breathing dust. Avoid contact with eyes, skin, and clothing. Wash thoroughly after handling. Do not use or handle this product until the Material Safety Data Sheet has been read and understood. Cibatool-Express 2000 Warning! Avoid dusty conditions. Use with adequate ventilation. Avoid breathing dust. In accordance with good industrial practice, handle with due care. Avoid contact with eyes, skin, and clothing. Wash thoroughly after handling. We recommend the following precautions when machining Cibatool-Express 2000, especially when fine dust is generated, for example, during finishing, sanding or grinding. Follow machining guidelines in this product data sheet Do not allow buildup of dust or swarf while the board is being machined. Employ good housekeeping practices. If fine dust is produced* use an extraction system that has: 1. Conductive filter media, which is bonded and grounded to prevent electrostatic discharge. 2. Police filter between the blower and filter media. * If fine dust is produced, check and or change cutters, spindle speeds and feed rates to produce chips. Refer to the Material Safety Data Sheet. Please contact us if you require further information.

Handling precautions

Caution Ciba Specialty Chemicals products are generally quite harmless to handle provided that certain precautions normally taken when handling chemicals are observed. The uncured materials must not, for instance, be allowed to come into contact with foodstuffs or food utensils, and measures should be taken to prevent the uncured materials from coming in contact with the skin, since people with particularly sensitive skin may be affected. The wearing of impervious rubber or plastic gloves will normally be necessary; likewise the use of eye protection. The skin should be thoroughly cleansed at the end of each working period by washing with soap and warm water. The use of solvents is to be avoided. Disposable paper - not cloth towels - should be used to dry the skin. Adequate ventilation of the working area is recommended. These precautions are described in greater detail in Ciba Specialty Chemicals publication No. 24264/3/e Hygienic precautions for handling plastics products of Ciba Specialty Chemicals and in the Ciba Specialty Chemicals Material Safety Data sheets for the individual products. These publications are available on request and should be referred to for fuller information.
