Bromley (1978) defines informal labor as unregulated and competitive markets where workers can enter easily; it relies on indigenous resources; family ownership of enterprises, small scale of operation with labor intensive and adapted technology; and labor skills acquired outside the formal school system. Thus following the definition provided, some examples of sectors involved in informal labor are tricycle drivers, market vendors, to some extend salespeople, janitorial services and vehicle maintenance crew. For me, the informal labor sector is the backbone of our society because without it, our society would literally grind to a halt because it is this sector that ensures that everything is in order and running smoothly. An economy without an informal labor sector would seem impossible considering our current market structure someone has to do the dirty work. The major issues that the informal labor sector is facing are, among others: increasing marginalization, disenfranchisement, unfair labor practices, and oppression. These are the usual issues because a part of our society sees the informal labor sector as the lowest part of our society. While this may be true in an economic sense, this sector makes it possible for the formal labor sector to exist in the first place.
