PART I AN INQUIRY INTO THE TRUTH AN inquiry into Truth is an inquiry into the cause of things as the human race sees and ex eriences them! If #e are "ife and consciousness *se"f+&no#ing, then it fo""o#s that #e must ha(e come from "ife and consciousness! -et us start' then' #ith this sim "e fact. -ife is and "ife is conscious! /ut #hat is the nature of this "ife) is it hysica"' menta"' materia" or s iritua"0 A "itt"e carefu" thin&ing $ased u on "ogic' more than any mere"y ersona" o inion' #i"" do much in c"earing u some of these questions that at first seem to stagger us #ith their $igness! Ho# much of that #hich is may #e ca"" "ife0 The ans#er #ou"d ha(e to $e. -ife is a"" that there is) it is the reason for a"" that #e see' hear' fee" ++ for a"" that #e ex erience in any #ay! No# nothing from nothing "ea(es nothing' and it is im ossi$"e for something to roceed from nothing! 1ince something is' that from #hich it came must $e a"" that is! -ife' then' is a"" that there is! E(erything comes from it' ourse"(es inc"uded! The next questions is' ho# do things come from "ife0 Ho# do the things that #e see come from the things that #e do not see0 Thae things that #e see must $e rea" $ecause #e see them! To say they are not rea" #i"" ne(er ex "ain them nor ans#er any question a$out them! 2od3s #or& is not a #or"d of i""usion $ut one of di(ine rea"ities! The truth must not ex "ain a#ay things that #e see! It must ex "ain #hat they are! %e are "i(ing and ex eriencing (arying degrees of consciousness and conditions! On"y #hen the #hy of "i(ing and of our ex eriences is understood #i"" #e &no# the "east thing a$out the truth! 4esus did not say that things are i""usions! He said that #e must not 5udge from the stand oint of the seen $ut must 5udge righteous"y or #ith right 5udgment) and He meant that #e must get $ehind the a earances and find out #hat caused it! 1o "et us not in any #ay foo" ourse"(es nor a""o# ourse"(es to $e"ie(e #e ha(e a"#ays $een foo"ed! %e are "i(ing in a #or"d of rea"ities! %hate(er #e ha(e ex erienced is a rea"ity as far as that ex erience is concerned'

Out of this "ife#hich is' e(erything #hich is is made! 1o "ife must f"o# through a"" things! There is no such thing as dead matter! 8oreo(er' "ife is one' and it cannot $e changed exce t into itse"f! All forms are forms of this unity and must come and go through some inner activity This inner activity of life or nature must !e some some form of se"f+consciousness or se"f+ &no#ing! In our human understanding #e #ou"d ca"" this inner &no#ing' or consciouness 7thought!7 The 1 irit or -ife' or 2od' must ma&e things out of Himse"f' through se"f+recognition' or se"f+&no#ing or' as #e #ou"d ca"" it thin&ing! 1ince 2od is a""' there is nothing to hinder Him from doung #hat He #ishes' and the question' 7Ho# do things come into $eing07 is ans#ered. 2od ma&es them out of Himse"f! 2od thin&s' or &no#s' and that thing #hich He thin&s or &no#s a ears from Himse"f' and is made out of Himse"f! There is no other ossi$"e ex "anation for #hat #e see! Un"ess eo "e are #i""ing to $egin here' they #i"" ne(er understand ho# it is that things are not materia" $ut s iritua"! 8AN31 P-A9E IN 9REATION! /UT #here does man come in0 He is! The question might arise' #hy did 2od do this0 No "i(ing erson can ans#er this question! This is something that is &no#n on"y of the 6ather! %e might su ose that 2od made man to "i(e #ith Him and to en5oy #ith Him' to $e one #ith the 6ather! It is true' indeed' that those #ho ha(e fe"t this most dee "y ha(e had a corres onding s iritua" o#er that "eads us to su ose that 2od rea""y did ma&e man as a com anion! 8an is the indi(idua" and 2od is the Uni(ersa"! 7As the 6ather hath "ife #ithin himse"f!7 8an3s mind is made out of 2od3s mind' and a"" that man is or e(er #i"" $e' a"" that he has or e(er #i"" ha(e' must arta&e of the :i(ine nature! 8an did not ma&e it so' $ut it is so' and he must acce t that face and see #hat he can do #ith it! If he has the same o#er in his indi(idua" "ife that 2od has in the Uni(ersa"' then this disco(ery #i"" mean freedom from a"" $ondage #hen he "earns ho# to use his o#er! E(erything is one' comes from the same source and returns again to it! 7The things #hich are seen are not made of the things #hich do a ear!7 %hat #e see comes from #hat #e do not see! This is the ex "anation of the #ho"e (isi$"e uni(erse' and is the on"y ossi$"e ex "anation! As 2od3s thought ma&es #or"ds and eo "es them #ith a"" "i(ing things' so does our thought ma&e our #or"d and eo "es it #ith a"" the ex eriences #e ha(e had! /y the acti(ity of our thought things come into our "ife' and #e are "imited $ecause #e ha(e not &no#n the truth) #e ha(e thought that outside things contro""ed us' #hen a"" the time #e ha(e had that #ithin #hich cou"d ha(e changed e(erything and gi(en us freedom from $ondage! The question' then' natura""y arises. %hy did 2od create man and ma&e him a free agent0 If 2od had created us in such a #ay as to com e" us to do or to $e anything that #as not of our choosing' #e shou"d not ha(e $een indi(idua"s at a""' #e shou"d $e automatons! 1ince #e &no# that #e are indi(idua"s' #e &no# that 2od made us thus) and #e are 5ust disco(ering the reason #hy! -et any man #a&e u to this' the greatest truth in a"" ages' and he #i"" find it #i"" ans#er a"" questions! He #i"" $e satisfied that things are #hat they are! "e #ill $erceive that he may use his %od&given $o#er to #or' so( to thin' and to live that he #ill in no #ay hinder the greater from o$erating through him According to the c"earness of his erce tion and greatness of his rea"i;ation of this o#er #i"" he ro(ide #ithin himse"f! There #i"" no "onger $e a sense of se aration' $ut in its "ace #i"" come that di(ine assurance that he is one #ith 2od' and thus #i"" he find his freedom from a"" suffering' #hether it $e of $ody' mind or estate! o eration! %e shou"d thin& of 2od as the great 1 irit #hose so"e im u"se is "o(e' free"y gi(ing of Him+se"f to a"" #ho as& and refusing none! 2od is our 6ather in e(ery sense of the term' #atching o(er' caring for and "o(ing a"" a"i&e! %hi"e a"" is "o(e' yet' in order that things may not $e chaotic' a"" is go(erned $y "a#! And as far as you and I are concerned' this "a# is a"#ays menta"! OUR 9ON:ITION1 2O<ERNE: /Y OUR THIN=IN2 IT is easy for the a(erage erson to see ho# it is that mind can contro"' and to a certain extent go(ern' the functions of the $ody! 1ome can go e(en further than this and see that the $ody is go(erned entire"y $y consciousness! This they can see #ithout much difficu"ty' $ut it is not so easy for them to see ho# it is that thought go(erns their conditions and decides #hether they are to $e successes or fai"ures! Here #e #i"" sto to as& the question. If our conditions are not contro""ed $y thought' $y #hat' then' are they contro""ed0 1ome #i"" say that conditions are contro""ed $y circumstances! /ut #hat are circumstances0 Are they cause or are they effect0 Of course they are a"#ays effect) e(erything that #e see is an effect! An effect is something that fo""o#s cause' and #e are dea"ing #ith causation on"y) effects do not ma&e themse"(es' $ut they are he"d in "ace $y mind' not $y causation! If this does not ans#er your thought' $egin o(er again and rea"i;e that $ehind e(erything that is seen is the si"ent cause! In your "ife you are that cause! There is nothing $ut mind' and nothing mo(es exce t as mind mo(es it! %e ha(e agreed that #hi"e 2od is "o(e' yet your "ife is go(erned a$so"ute"y $y mind' or "a#! In our "i(es of conditions #e are the cause' and nothing mo(es exce t as our mind mo(es it! The acti(ity of our mind is thought! %e are a"#ays acting $ecause #e are a"#ays thin&ing! At a"" times #e are either dra#ing things to us or #e are ushing them a#ay from us! In the ordinary indi(idua" this rocess goes on #ithout his e(er &no#ing it conscious"y' $ut ignorance of the "a# #i"" excuse no one from its effects! 7%hat'7 someone #i"" say' 7do you thin& that I thought fai"ure or #anted to fai"07 Of course not! You #ou"d $e foo"ish to thin& that) $ut according to the "a# #hich #e cannot deny' you must ha(e thought that fai"ure might come' or in some #ay you ga(e ga(e it entrance to your mind! Thin&ing $ac& o(er the reason for things' you #i"" find that you are surrounded $y a mind' or "a#' that casts $ac& at the thin&er' manifested' e(erything he thin&s! If this #ere not true' man #ou"d not $e an indi(idua"! Indi(idua"ity can mean on"y the a$i"ity to thin& #hat #e #ant to thin&! If that thought is to ha(e o#er in our "i(es then there has to $e something that #i"" manifest it! 1ome are "imited and $ound $y "a# through ignorance! This "a# is sometimes ca""ed 7=arma'7 it is the "a# that $inds the ignorant and gi(es freedom to the #ise! %e "i(e in mind) and it can return to us on"y #hat #e thin& into it! No matter #hat #e may do' "a# #i"" a"#ays o$tain! If #e are thin&ing of ourse"(es as oor and needy' then mind has not choice $ut to return #hat #e ha(e thought into it! In a fe# days the gro#th had returned! %here did it come from0 Not from eating or drin&ing! Neither did it mo(e from one art of the $ody to another art' as that #ou"d not ha(e increased her #eight! It must ha(e $een created from e"ements #hich she too& in from the air! It had to come from something not hysica""y seen' something a earing from nothing that #e see! %hat #e ca"" 7creation7 is the same thing ++ the (isi$"e a earing from the in(isi$"e! %as not this henomenon a creation0 9ases as remar&a$"e as this are occuring e(ery day! %e shou"d not deny this fact $ut try to ex "ain it! He understood' that is a""! /ecause 4esus did understand and did use these great "a#s #ith o$5ecti(e consciousness' eo "e thought He must $e 2od! And #hen to+day something unusua" occurs' eo "e thin& that a mirac"e has $een erformed! 4esus #as not 2od! He #as a manifestation of 2od) and so are a"" eo "e! 7I say ye are gods' and e(ery one of you sons of the 8ost High!7 A thin&ing erson #i"" $e com e""ed to admit' in (ie# of a"" this' that creation is first s iritua"' through menta" "a#' and then hysica" in manifestation! 8an does not rea""y create! He uses creati(e o#er that a"ready is! Re"ati(e"y s ea&ing' he is the creati(e o#er in his o#n "ife) and so far as his thought goes' there is something that goes #ith it that has the o#er to $ring forth into manifestation that thing thought of! Hitherto men ha(e used this creati(e o#er in ignornance and so ha(e $rought u on themse"(es a"" &inds of conditions' $ut today hundreds of thousands are $eginning to use these great "a#s of their $eing in a conscious' constructi(e #ay! Herein "ies the great secret of the Ne# Thought mo(ements under their (arious names and cu"ts and orders! A"" are using the same "a# e(en though some deny to the others rea" re(e"ation! %e shou"d get into an attitude of mind #herein #e shou"d recongni;e the truth #here(er #e may find it! THE first thing to rea"i;e is that since any thought manifests it necessari"y fo""o#s that a"" thought does the same' e"se ho# shou"d #e &no# that the articu"ar thought #e are thin&ing #ou"d $e the one that #ou"d create0 8ind must not cast $ac& a"" or none! 4ust as the creati(e o#er of the soi" recei(es a"" seeds ut into it' and at once $egins to #or& u on them' so mind must recei(e a"" thought and at once $egin to o erate u on it! Thus #e find that a"" thought has some o#er in our "i(es and o(er our conditions! %e are ma&ing our en(ironments $y the creati(e o#er of our thought! 2od has created us thus and #e cannot esca e it! /y con+ forming our "i(es and thought to a greater understanding of "a# #e sha"" $e a$"e to $ring into our ex erience 5ust #hat #e #ish' "etting go of a"" that #e do not #ant to ex erience and ta&ing in the things #e desire! E(ery erson is surrounded $y a thought atmos here This menta" atmos here is the direct resu"t of thought #hich in its turn $ecomes the direct reason for the cause of that #hich comes into our "i(es! Through this o#er #e are either attracting or re e""ing! -i&e attract "i&e and #e attract to us 5ust #hat #e are in mind! It is a"so true that #e $ecome attracted to something that is greater than our re(ious ex erience $y first em$odying the atmos here of our desire! E(ery $usiness' e(ery "ace' e(ery erson' e(erything has a certain menta" atmos here of its o#n! This atmos here decides #hat is to $e dra#n to it! 6or instance' you ne(er sa# a successfu" man #ho #ent around #ith an atmos here of fai"ure! 1uccessfu" eo "e thin& a$out success! A successfu" man is fi""ed #ith that su$t"e something #hich ermeates e(erything that he does #ith an atmos here of confidence and strength! In the resence of some eo "e #e fee" as though nothing #ere too great to underta&e) #e are u "ifted) #e are ins ired to do great things' to accom "ish) #e fee" strong' steady' sure! %hat a o#er #e fee" in the resence of $ig sou"s' strong men' no$"e #omen> :id you e(er sto to inquire #hy it is that such ersons ha(e this &ind of effect o(er you #hi"e others seem to de ress' to drag you do#n' and in their resence you fee" as though "ife #ere a "oad to carry0 One ty e is ositi(e' the other negati(e! He does not ha(e to $ecome a success) he a"ready is a success! Thoughts of fai"ure' "imitation or o(erty are negati(e and must $e countred out of our "i(es for a"" time! 1ome$ody #i"" say' 7/ut #hat of the oor) #hat are you going to do #ith them) are they to $e "eft #ithout he" 07 No) a thousand times no! The same o#er is in them that is in a"" men! They #i"" a"#ays $e oor unti" they a#a&e and rea"i;e #hat "ife is! A"" the charity on earth has ne(er done a#ay #ith o(erty' and ne(er #i"") if it cou"d ha(e done so it #ou"d ha(e done so) it cou"d not' therefore it has not! It #i"" do a man a thousand times more good to sho# him ho# to succeed than it #i"" to te"" him he needs charity! %e need not "isten to a"" the ca"amity ho#"ers! -et them ho#" if it does them any

good! 2od has gi(en us a o#er and #e must use it! %e can do more to#ard sa(ing the #or"d $y ro(ing this "a# than a"" that charity has e(er gi(en it! Right here' in the manifo"d #or"d to+day' there is more money and ro(ision than the #or"d can use! Not e(en a fraction of the #ea"th of the #or"d is used! In(entors and disco(erers are adding to this #ea"th e(ery day) they are the rea" eo "e! /ut in the midst of "enty' surrounded $y a"" the gifts of hea(en' man sits and $egs for his dai"y $read! He shou"d $e taught to rea"i;e that he has $rought these conditions u on himse"f) that instead of $"aming 2od' man or the de(i" for the circumstances $y #hich he is surrounded' he shou"d "earn to see& the truth' to "et the dead $ury their dead! %e shou"d te"" e(ery man #ho #i"" $e"ie(e #hat his rea" nature is) sho# him ho# to o(ercome a"" "imitations) gi(e him courage) sho# him the #ay! If he #i"" not $e"ie(e' if he #i"" not #a"& in the #ay' it is not our fau"t' and ha(e done a"" #e can' #e must go our #ay! %e may sym athi;e #ith eo "e $ut ne(er #ith trou$"e' "imitation or misery! A"" is mind' and #e must ro(ide a rece ti(e a(enue as it asses out throught us into the outer ex ression of our affairs! If #e a""o# the #or"d3s o inion to contro" our thin&ing' then that #i"" $e our demonstration! If' on the other hand' #e rise su erior to the #or"d' #e sha"" do a ne# thing! Remem$er that a"" eo "e are ma&ing demonstrations' on"y most of them are ma&ing the ones thy can ma&e #ith thier resent o#ers of erce tion! ")* T) ATTAIN STREN%T" +ET us see that #e use the right attitude of mind in all that #e do( filling ourselves #ith such courage and $o#er of strength that all thoughts of #ea'ness flees !efore us If any thoughts of #ea&ness shou"d come' as& this question. Is "ife #ea&0 If "ife is not #ea& and if 2od is not discouraged' then you are not' ne(er #ere'and ne(er #i"" $e! I shou"d "i&e to see the sic&"y' discouraged thought that cou"d #ithstand this attitude of mind! No> -ife is strong and you are strong #ith the strength of the Infinite) forget a"" e"se as you re(e" in this strength! You are strong and can say I A8! You ha(e $een "a$oring under an i""usion) no# you are not disi""usioned! No# you &no#' and &no#ing is using the "a# in a constructi(e #ay! 7I and the 6ather are One)7 this is strength for the #ea&' and "ife for a"" #ho $e"ie(e! %e can so fi"" ourse"(es #ith the dra#ing o#er of attraction that it #i"" $ecome irresisti$"e! Nothing can hinder things from coming to the man #ho &no#s that he is dea"ing #ith the same o#er that creates a"" from itse"f' mo(es a"" #ithin itse"f' and yet ho"ds a"" things in their "aces! I am one #ith the Infinite 8ind! -et this ring through you many times each day unti" you rise to that height' "oo&ing' sees! In order to $e sure that #e are creating the right &ind of menta" atmos here and so attracting #hat #e #ant' #e must at first #atch our thin&ing' "est #e create that #hich #e shou"d not "i&e to see minifest! Nothing e(er ha ens $y chance! -a# go(erns a"" "ife' and a"" eo "e come under that "a#! /ut that "a#' so far' as #e are concerned' #e ourse"(es set in motion' and #e do this through the o#er of our thought!
