Welcome to 2013...
Most noteworthy this year is that all 221 varieties of 3 1/2 potted herb and vegetable plants will be certied organic. After a two year trial we feel we are ready to move to organic production. The plants just seem to grow better this way. The larger plants will be grown organically, until we rotate through our stock plants, but will not be labeled organic. All small plants will be in green pots, all with a custom organic picture label, featuring Grown Locally. And all herbs are labeled Deer Resistant. Herbs will be sold in 18 count trays and the vegetables will be in 12 count trays. We think you will agree that you will nd selections available with us that you will not nd anywhere else. And our plants are ready for outdoor display due to our unique two stage growing system. Just about everything is moved from a growing greenhouse to a nishing greenhouse prior to delivery. Also, almost all varieties are transplanted from plug trays to pots, rather than direct seed. While these steps add considerable labor and time, we feel it gives our customers a uniform sized plant, pre hardened off and ready for immediate sales. We will have a good quantity of 3 1/2 qt., 6 qt., 3 gallon and 5 gallon lavender and rosemary plants available. The rosemary can be selected either organic or conventional. We have realigned 3 1/2 pricing this year. All certied organic herb plants (18/tray) will increase in price. The price on all certied organic vegetable plants (12/tray) will increase only slightly. This will more accurately represent the actual cost of production as many herbs are propagated vegetatively while vegetables are from seed, accordingly. Almost everything else remains unchanged. Also delivery fees are restructured by distance. Still not even close to covering our costs, we have found that trucking expenses are higher than heating our greenhouses for an entire year! Please remember that certied organic plants should be displayed separately from other plants watered only with clear water. The nutrient source comes from compost and organic fertilizers in the soil. To help you extend your season we offer organically grown patio vegetables in 3 qt. pots. These are compact varieties suitable for container gardens. This year we will offer 30 varieties. These are available late and sell out quickly. They are very popular with late arriving gardeners. Also, we will continue to offer our fall vegetable program that was very successful last year. We offer many varieties available in August and September in 804 cell packs. Since we are a small business we must rely on the trust of our customers and are grateful for our responsible existing customer base. We seek to only add customers who share those beliefs..Our goal is to provide you with the quality and quantity when you need it. Order what you need for each week. We are happy to deliver fresh plant material as required. We have two full sized trucks on the road and have purchased additional carts to make your delivery easier.

So how do we grow anyway? We use compost based, certied organic soil for certied
organic 3 1/2 pots. Organic fertilizers are added as needed. Pests are controlled with benecial insect releases on a regular basis and organically approved pest controls when needed. We use no residual pesticides or growth regulators. While the regulations are very strict and we are inspected annually, we nd these plants tend to grow better anyway. Thank you, Walter, Linell and Chris Gaipa.
