Street Soccer USA is the premier social enterprise in the United States using sports to make measurable social change. Street Soccer USA uses the power of soccer to help homeless and at-risk youth, men and women dramatically transform their lives. The Street Soccer USA National Cup is our signature event and the 2013 edition marked the second consecutive year the Championship took place in New York City. Over the course of 3 days, 680 players from 16 cities competed, with more than 75,000 spectators attending the championship matches in Times Square on Broadway between 46th and 47th Streets in the heart of New York City. SOCCER ICON PEL PRESENTS TROPHY TO NATIONAL OPEN CUP WINNERS


Teams from across the country and abroad registered to play in local qualifiers and regional events in the lead-up to the National Open Cup. The National Cup weekend featured group play at Pier 54 and was followed by elimination rounds in Times Square. The GFI Group won it all in a penalty shootout and were presented the National Champions Trophy by icon Pel at the New York Cosmos Gala following the Cup. All registration fees and proceeds from the National Open Cup support Street Soccer USAs social program transferring job and life skills to at-risk and homeless youth and young adults.

MINNEAPOLIS
Participants in our social change program based in 16 cities serving homeless and at-risk youth train year around to earn a spot representing their city at the National Cup. The top achievers on and off the field are selected to represent the mens and womens USA National Team at international events including the Homeless World Cup and Street Child World Cup. Minneapolis won the Cup for the 2nd year in a row by beating Sacramento 6-3.

LADY SALAMANDERS CHAMPION

The Lady Salamanders are a Street Soccer USA program division made entirely for women. It is funded by the Sheila Johnson Foundation and named the Salamanders by Ms. Johnson because of their ability to survive through fire and water. The Salamander embodies resilience, a trait the women of Street Soccer USA also embody. The Minneapolis women defeated Sacramento to win the title for the 2nd year in a row.

YOUTH HOUR IN TIMES SQUARE

Youth from HELP USAs Housing Development and Family Shelter in East New York, Brooklyn played in Times Square led by their Street Soccer USA coaches and Department of Homeless Services Commissioner Michele Ovesey.

This is Street Soccer USAs most recent programming development, expanding the target age group from 16 and older to include youth aged 5-15.
