While on the opposing side the disadvantages of school uniforms would be school uniforms violate the right to freedom of speech...

Advantages include the fact that you don't have to spend as much money on clothes for everyday, and a lot of gang-related clothing is eliminated. Not only this but all the gossip about what people are wearing is gone. Disadvantages include lack of personal representation. Students are not allowed to express themselves the way they want to. Plus some students may not be able to afford some uniforms, making either the school or district pay for them. That or the student is punished for not wearing the appropriate clothing, which is no fault of their own. I wore a uniform at a Catholic School. The advantage was that a uniform made what to wear each day pretty simple. In my case, the money saved by not having to buy school clothes with the exception of the uniforms, was used for nice party and casual clothes. I noticed the argument that uniforms somehow make everyone on a level playing field at school. Actually this is not true so the disadvantage of uniforms is Cliques still are formed based on whom has the nicest shoes, coats and fashion accessories. The "in" group ruling the school Cliques still are expert at picking out which student belongs to what group based on fashion, fad, and money spent on items worn with the uniform.

A lot of private schools have always implemented a standard uniform policy which is no big deal. However, a lot of public schools are now putting a uniform policy in place and I am not agreeable with it. I do believe a certain dress code should be enforced (no alcohol or tobacco logos, offensive images or language or gang affiliations on clothing, no clothing that reveals too much skin), but implementing a uniform policy to require all students to wear the exact same clothing is a step toward the socialist ideas that are being pushed on us everyday. The school board in my hometown is pushing hard to implement such a policy but enough people have turned out at the meetings in opposition of the idea that they haven't done it. One of our school board members actually said that uniforms are needed because it's not fair that some students wear designer-name clothes and other students could only afford clothes from Wal-Mart. It's this kind of thinking that is driving our country to a classless, socialist society that will eventually destroy it. I say yes to dress codes and no to uniforms in public schools.

There are many advantages to wearing uniforms. 1) Everyone looks the same. So, it won't be much distinction between those who have the finances to buy expensive clothing. However, unless accessories are regulated, there will still be some distinction. 2) It will be easier to monitor inappropriate clothing. 3) Students have mentioned that it's easier to choose what they want to wear in the

morning. 4) It promotes school spirit when shirts with the school logo are worn. Disadvantages 1) They can be expensive depending on the style and specific rule of the school. 2) It limits individuality to shoes and accessories. 3) Teachers do no like it when they have to wear nicer clothes instead of dressing down. Source(s): I'm the Founder of an all-girl's school. I never wore uniform when I was a kid. Disadvantages: 1- Students have no freedom of expression. 2- Uniforms can be very expensive. 3- Some can be used by bullies, like ties to choke. 4- Some children can't afford them, and stand out more. Advantages: 1- Nobody poor can be made fun of by others. 2- Rich people can't flaunt what they have in front of others. 3- Reminder of rules that students should follow. 4- More attention paid to school work than clothes. Source(s): The only sensible way to live in this world is without rules.

Disadvantages - Takes freedom of choice - Is demoralizing - Discourages the development of personal identity - Have to be ironed continuously Advantages -Cheaper than buying new fashion all the time -Doesn't discriminate against the poor, rich... -Helps children to learn respect, rules.... - Is classy, and helps give a school its own identity

Pros: - school uniforms make me feel safer - they make me feel like I belong to something - I'm from a respected Convent school so I'm always proud wearing my school uniform with my badge - no worries of what to wear in the morning Cons: - they're ugly - it's harder to run (in case of anything) in a uniform - it's harder to skip class/play truant cos ppl can recognize you Advantages: Everyone looks the same so its not as easy for people to be pin pointed for having less "expensive" clothes Looks smart (i guess) Saves time in the morning from choosing clothes You can have non uniform days lol Disadvantages Everyone looks the same / no individuality No choice of colour etc Boring

Advantages and Disadvantages of School Uniform

Advantages and Disadvantages of School Uniform Pupils all around the world have worn school uniform for many years. Many schools in Japan, France, USA and Israel, oblige pupils to come to school with a uniform. Wearing school uniform has advantages and disadvantages which I will present in my composition. On the one hand, the school uniform is very important. It is imporatant because it shows that a student belongs to a certain school. When a student wears a shirt with the school's symbol, everyone knows where the student studies, a thing which may help to create a feeling of belonging and school pride. Moreover, the school uniform saves money. Students sometimes judge other students by their outward look. Therefore, many students spend much money on clothes in order to be more popular. When everyone wears the same uniform, the students don't need to spend much money to buy expensive brand names. In addition, school uniform saves time in the mornings because you don't have to think much about what to wear. In addition, schools claim that school uniform is important for good education because pupils need to obey a certain dress code, a thing that helps the students be prepared for the army and any other framework. On the other hand, some pupils claim that wearing a school uniform hurts their individuality and self-expression. They claim it deprives them of the right to wear whatever they want. After all, they are still children and at this age there should be more room for self expression. As far as saving money, some pupils claim that theschool uniform doesn't save money because they need to buy additional clothes to what they already have. Therefore, they think it is not necessary and should be cancelled. To conclude, in the light of the above, school uniform has advantages and disadvantages. I strongly believe that the school uniform is necessary and has benefits. However, I think that each school should design its school uniform from time to time and let pupils and teachers decide on it.

Imagine that you wake up every single day early in the morning, get up and put on the same clothes you had on yesterday, the day before yesterday, last week, last month and so on. And youre not the only one who does the same routine every morning. School uniforms become more and more popular. They have left the walls of schools a long time ago. The problem is that along with the positive effects, a school uniform may have a lot of inconvenient aspects to it. Some of them are provided below. First of all, a big number of students and their parents complain that wearing a school uniform doesnt let students express themselves. Students not wearing a school uniform can experiment with different clothing styles in order to find something that will suit them and their personas. Self-expression thats the first advantage of not wearing a school uniform. Moreover, not being allowed to wear what you want causes all sorts of stress. Teachers usually have to work with big groups of students. This means that they need to remember many different names. It is often so that they can recognize this or that student by look only. School uniform makes it impossible for the teacher to visually identify a certain student. A lot of low-income families cannot afford to buy a school uniform. Their kid not wearing a school uniform would only help their financial situation. People are different and their tastes are different as well. To some students it may be especially troubling to wear the clothes which dont bring them any satisfaction. Furthermore, physical features of all are different and theres no guarantee that the school uniform will suit all the students equally. In my point of view, it is extremely important to

After a child is born, his parents dream of seeing him grow and go through various important stages of life. One of the initial and most vital steps towards growing and understanding the world is going to school. School is the center of learning and temple of knowledge, which the child attends to decipher the various mysteries and puzzles of existence. It helps in his/her development and helps to make a completely independent identity. Thus, school is the most crucial place for a child. Owing to the importance of school there are several issues that are significant in making the schools a better place for students. The provision of dress code in school has emerged to be one such heated topic. Many schools believe uniform is necessary in an environment like school whereas, many others view it as restriction imposed on children. It is a much debated subject, with both the parties holding equal number of valid reasons. So, as of now, whether or not to enroll their children in a school which follows a strict dress code has become a matter of choice for the parents. To know the pros and cons of wearing school uniforms, read further.

Pros

A fixed dress code helps the students perform academically better. Students concentrate more on their studies rather than on deciding their wardrobe. Apart from removing distraction, uniforms compel students to take school environment more seriously. Children tend to be misjudged and ridiculed by others due to the kind of clothes they wear. Thus, uniforms reduce social conflict and violence in the schools. As per the US Department of Education, the enforcement of a standard dress/uniform in schools reduces violence within the school. It is seen that at a lot of times violence arises out of debates over fashionable clothes. One of the most profound benefits of having schools uniforms is that, they are highly cost effective and relieve the parents from the burden of buying fashionable and expensive clothes every now and then. Many parents have agreed on this and have also mentioned that schools uniforms are sometime more durable as they are made for repeated wash and wear. Parents can also buy used school uniforms at discount prices or they can do the hand-me-downs between siblings. Students in schools with uniforms are believed to perform better because they are not distracted by their wardrobes. Another general assumption is that students who wear uniforms behave more appropriately and are more likely to follow the school rules. Moreover, schools which support the use of uniforms are of the opinion that designer clothes do not determine ones individuality or talent. Some believe that uniforms help build a school spirit or a sense of belonging.

Cons

School uniforms surely curb the self-expression of a child. Sociologists believe that it may lead to inappropriate ways of expression by children, such as improper use of makeup and jewelry. Another reason argued against school uniforms is that they deprive the children of their individuality. The stress on a uniform dress code in school opposes the spirit of unity in diversity and its celebration. It is even claimed to restrict socialization, a vital aspect of human nature. In comparison to civil dress, school uniforms prove to be futile and wasteful once the child is out of school. Some parents consider that uniforms for schools are a waste of money. Another ill effect of school uniform is that, it deprives the children the comfort, which one experiences on wearing different type of clothing, as per individual choice. This discomfort might adversely reflect upon the academic performance of the child. A child in uniform may be targeted for bullying by children of other schools. Some students do not like to be bound be any rules and to force such children to wear uniforms is like arousing hostility in them. Uniforms will only aggravate their rebellious nature. Adversaries insist that there is no credible evidence that uniforms improve a childs school discipline or encourage higher academic achievement. Studies have shown that, some students who excel in academics have a terrible dressing sense. So, it does not matter how a student dresses, however, it is important that the student should be allowed to dress in way he or she likes.

A child should be allowed to make his or decision when it comes to uniforms. If the child is not bothered or is unaffected by the fact that, he has to wear a uniform, there is no scope for worries for the parents. On the other hand, if a child resists the idea of wearing a uniform, it is better that the parents do not force him. A child should be allowed to make his/her own decision whether or not to wear a uniform.
