cordially invite you to A Member and Staff Briefing on Treaties 101: Implications for U.S. Sovereignty In conjunction with the House Sovereignty Caucus and Reps. Lamborn and Duncan (SC) (Lunch will be served)

Wednesday, May 1 from 12:00-1:00 p.m. in Room Rayburn 2200 Dear Colleague: The U.S. is a sovereign nation governed by the U.S. Constitution and a free and independent people who possess the God-given right of self-government. However the increasing influence of international and transnational organizations poses reason for concern and close examination to ensure that these organizations do not threaten U.S. interests. Last year, efforts were underway to move forward with the U.N. Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and U.N. Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). On April 2, 2013, the U.N. General Assembly voted to pass the Arms Trade Treaty with the U.S. voting in favor and several countries abstaining. We are concerned about the potential impact these treaties and others like them pose for U.S. sovereignty and freedom, and we invite you and your staff to join us for a Treaties 101 lunch briefing. The panel will be moderated by Frank Gaffney, the President and Founder of the Center for Security Policy, and will feature: Michael Farris, J.D., LL.M. is the Chancellor of Patrick Henry College and Chairman of the Home School Legal Defense Association. Dr. Farris testified before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing on the CRPD on July 12, 2012, and is an expert on the U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child Steven Groves is a Senior Research Fellow at The Heritage Foundation. Mr. Groves testified before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing on the UNCLOS on June 14, 2012 and on the CRPD on July 12, 2012. Janice Crouse, Ph.D. is a Senior Fellow at the Beverly LaHaye Institutethe think tank for Concerned Women for Americaand an expert on the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW).
