The Hotel Apprenticeship Training Program The Tourism Confederation of Tanzania, The Hotels Association of Tanzania in partnership with

the National College of Tourism is introducing the Hotel Apprenticeship Training for the first time in Tanzania. The Program is designed to fill the gap of the skills mismatch that exists between the Tourism Institutions and the Hotel Industry. Formal apprenticeship is a training system in which the industry takes the responsibility of training in close collaboration with training institutions and is jointly responsible in offering training. This method of training has been found very effective in ensuring that the training institutions produce the graduates with the skills that are required in the specific sector. In the arrangement the apprentices not only learns at a college but also learns through the works and produce. The Apprenticeship Training Program Committee is looking to recruit the first training batch with the following Hotel Departments: Food Production, Front Office Operations and Housekeeping. The first batch will be a pilot group however successful completion of the training programme will lead to a NACTE Technician certificate award level 5 offered by the National college of Tourism . For the Pilot Programme, training is open for Dar es Salaam residents only and/or young people who are able to find accommodation in Dar es Salaam for the duration of the training. Applicants must be between the ages of 17 to 25 years old with the motivation to pursue a career in the Hospitality Industry. There are three categories of qualifications that have been approved by NACTE: 1. Category A: Direct Entry Applicants for direct admission to the Basic Certificate programme must have earned: A certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) with minimum passes in four subjects, plus passing qualifying test from the Institution 2. Category B: Equivalent qualifications A certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) with passes in three subjects, including English and (excluding religious subjects) plus working experience in the

hospitality industry for at least two years plus passing a written and oral test administered by the recruitment committee 3. Category C: VETA qualifications A qualification of NVA Level 2 or 3, plus passing a written and oral test administered by the Recruitment Committee Qualities of the applicant: i. Have good communication skills in both English and Kiswahili ii. Have motivation and interest to work in the hospitality industry iii. Demonstrate basic awareness of the hospitality industry iv. Demonstrate ability of trustworthiness v. Demonstrate maturity and sense of personal responsibilities required of hotel staff. vi. Have good interpersonal skills vii. Have ability to work independently as well as part of the team

viii. Ability to work under pressure ix. Ability to pay attention to details x.
