Course Number Course Title Target Group Learning Target CN3203-01N Packet Core Network Signalling (PCNSIG) (combined 2G and 3G) System Level Experts in Packet Core After the training, the participant will be able to: Analyze and explain MM and SM procedures, such as PDP Context Activation in local and in roaming cases, involving DHCP or RADIUS and tunneled messages List and explain the most relevant interfaces in the packet core network, the protocols on these interfaces and their significant messages and contents Practically take a focused look at GPRS and UMTS interfaces using PCM, ATM and IP protocol analyzers. Contribute to troubleshooting and optimizing parameters of the PCN network elements Training Network structure Explain the structure of the training network Describe the practical possibilities to trace PCN Control Plane Messages on all relevant interfaces of this network Protocol Analyser Introduction: ATM Nethawk Trace messages on ATM based interfaces in real time using the NetHawk protocol analyser Set basic configurations Save trace files for later analysis Restore NetHawk configuration files Iu-PS Interface List the protocol layers and explain the layer functions on the interface between the RNC and the 3G-SGSN Describe the Iu-PS control plane messages and the meaning of their information elements Protocol Analyser Introduction: PCM Nethawk Trace messages on PCM based interfaces in real time using the NetHawk protocol analyser Set basic configurations Save trace files for later analysis Restore NetHawk configuration file Gr interface Explain how the interaction between SGSN and HLR works List the procedures supported by SGSN - HLR interaction Describe the procedures, their messages and information elements Protocol Analyser Introduction: Ethereal Use the Ethereal protocol analyser to monitor messages on IP based PCN interfaces Define capture and display filters Colorize a selection of messages for easier recognition SIGTRAN Explain the benefit of using SIGTRAN Draw SIGTRAN protocol stacks and explain the role of each layer Monitor and explain SIGTRAN messages from Ethereal or other signaling monitoring tools DNS message debugging Analyse DNS concepts and messages Analyse and explain the structure and the contents of DNS messages Verify DNS features used in the Nokia Siemens Networks PCN implementation and explain their impact on DNS messages Gn interface

Describe the interface between the SGSN and the GGSN also in case of physically redundant PCN backbones Describe different types of Gn control plane messages and the meaning of their information elements Tracing MM/SM Procedures of 3G PCN calls Apply a structured approach to monitor mobility management and session management procedures on all involved interfaces Draw a flowchart of messages of the Attach procedure and the PDP Context Activation procedure on all involved interfaces Relate selected message contents to configuration settings in different network elements Describe the impact of valid reconfiguration of parameters in different network elements to traceable message contents Messages in Roaming Cases Explain inter UMTS network Roaming Concepts Describe the interface between the visited SGSN and the visited/home GGSN Explain message flows in cases of 3G subscribers roaming in 2G networks Debug packet switched call set-ups in roaming cases DHCP and RADIUS message tracing Outline the message flow of DHCP communications and to explain the use and the main contents of the DHCP messages without reference to notes Explain the Radius Authentication and Authorisation procedure and the impact of GPRS network parameters and Radius server parameters on Radius messages Describe the Radius Accounting process and the main Accounting message contents Tunneled messages analysis Describe the differences between various types of tunnels without reference to notes Explain the structure of tunneled messages and the impact of the message layers on routing Portray a message diagram that shows the message flow of the different tunnel types

Prerequisites

Found O&M knowledge of 3G SGSN and GGSNFundamentals of UnixNote!Participants should have at least half a year of practical O&M experience in the PCN area to optimally benefit from his course Training network structure Protocol Analyser Introduction: ATM NetHawk Iu-PS interface Protocol Analyser Introduction: PCM NetHawk Gr interface Protocol Analyser Introduction: Ethereal SIGTRAN DNS message debugging Gn interface Tracing MM/SM Procedures of 3G PCN calls Messages in Roaming Cases DHCP and Radius Message tracing Tunnelled Messages Analysis Advanced level Covers both 2G PCN and 3G PCN signalling This course can be delivered as face-to face classroom or virtual classroom with 10 sessions of 3 hours 5 days
