Tolerance On Dimensions Of Shell Plates 1. Scope: This tolerance is applicable to length, width and diagonals of rectangular shell plates after cutting to the required dimensions in accordance with the plate cutting lay out (PCL) or shell development derived from the applicable drawing. Plates for multi wall vessels and special equipments with stringent tolerance on circumference are out side the scope of this tolerance. 2. Dimensions of Plate after cutting: 2.1 Length The required shell length shall be as given in the applicable PCL. In the absence of PCL, the required length of the plate is derived by the following method. Length = Nominal circumference = (I/D + T) x Where I/D = Inside dia., as given in drawing T = Actual thickness measured on plate edges = Value from calculator The above calculation shall be performed in a scientific calculator. 2.2 Width The required plate width shall be as given in the applicable PCL. In the absence of PCL, the shell width shall be equal to the length of applicable shell course. 2.3 Diagonals Both the diagonals are to be measured for their difference 3. Tolerance on dimensions: 3.1 Length The permissible variations from the required dimension shall be limited to 1 mm per meter with a maximum of 4 mm. 3.2 Width The permissible variations from the required dimension shall be limited to 1 mm per meter with a maximum of 3 mm. 3.3 Diagonal The permissible difference between the two measured diagonals shall be limited to 1 mm per meter length of diagonal with a maximum of 5 mm 4. Sketch: The sketch 1 gives graphical illustration of applicable tolerance and a format for reporting the required and measured dimensions. The tolerance on weld edge preparation shall be in accordance with HED-HZW-WEL-T-001
