Problem

Backups would fail with Status Code 90 in the Job Monitor when backing up Windows Shadow Copy Components

Error

Looking in the bpbkar log, there are references to Backup Exec: 11:37:41.977 AM: [4332.6924] <2> ov_log::V_GlobalLog: INF - CEVInterface::RequestXML This EV version is not supported by Backup Exec. In the Event Viewer Application Log, there is confirmation that there is a Backup Exec application running on the Client: Tue Oct 26 2010 09:24:47 Backup Exec CPS Agent I1024 CPS Protection Agent version '12.5' has started and is running from 'C:\Program Files\Symantec\Continuous Protection Server\Services\rxservice.exe'. Tue Oct 26 2010 09:23:06 Backup Exec CPS Agent W1132 Job 'LRCPVINEFP00001-L' is stopping because every source and destination pair in the job has either completed or been canceled. Tue Oct 26 2010 09:23:06 Backup Exec CPS Agent W1132 Job 'MTOPBANCSHFS001-I' is stopping because every source and destination pair in the job has either completed or been canceled.

Cause

Backup Exec CPS Agent uses a filter driver which interferes with NetBackup when attempting to backup files.

Solution

Stop Backup Exec CPS Agent prior to NetBackup operations via a backup_start_notify script, or run Backup Exec CPS Agent on a different non-NetBackup machine.

Problem

NetBackup for Lotus Notes backups fail with Status Code 90

Error

media manager received no data for backup image

Cause
A review of the Backup Selections for the affected Lotus-Notes policy revealed the following:
NEW_STREAM NOTES_INI_PATH=/local/notesdata/notes.ini NEW_STREAM /local/notesdata/mail/mail01 NEW_STREAM /local/notesdata/mail/mail02

The backup failed because the first stream contained no Lotus Notes data to backup, only the location of the notes.ini file. Each stream must contain valid Lotus Notes files for backup, or the backup will fail with Status Code 90.

Solution
Unless the client is a Domino Partitioned Server, it is not necessary to use the NOTES_INI_PATH directive in the Backup Selections list:
NEW_STREAM /local/notesdata/mail/mail01 NEW_STREAM /local/notesdata/mail/mail02

If the client system is a Domino Partitioned Server, the following Backup Selections list will work: NEW_STREAM
NOTES_INI_PATH=/local/notesdata/notes.ini /local/notesdata/mail/mail01 NEW_STREAM NOTES_INI_PATH=/local/notesdata/notes.ini /local/notesdata/mail/mail02

In the above example, the data directories are contained within the same Domino Partition. To backup multiple Domino Partitioned Server directories: NEW_STREAM
NOTES_INI_PATH=/local/notesdata1/notes.ini /local/notesdata1 NEW_STREAM NOTES_INI_PATH=/local/notesdata2/notes.ini /local/notesdata2

Problem
STATUS CODE 90: Backups of a particular policy are failing with status 90 (media manager received no data for backup image) reported. Upon further examination, the policy is found not to contain any Backup Selections.

Error
media manager received no data for backup image

Solution
Overview: Backups are failing with status code 90 (media manager received no data for backup image) reported in the Activity Monitor. This is only occurring with one particular policy. Log Files: The media server's bpbrm log:

13:09:56.185 [28929] <2> bpbrm Exit: client backup EXIT STATUS 90: media manager received no data for backup image

The media server's bptm log:

13:12:18.459 [29052] <4> write_backup: begin writing backup id <client>_1210093874, copy 1, fragment 1, to media id 0104L3 on drive index 1 ... 13:12:18.480 [29052] <4> write_data: no data received from client <client>, image not written 13:12:18.480 [29052] <2> write_backup: write_data() returned, exit_status = 90, CINDEX = 0, TWIN_INDEX = 0, backup_status = -8 ... 13:12:35.943 [29052] <2> bptm: EXITING with status 90 <----------

Troubleshooting: Analyze the policy that is receiving the status 90 failure, either using the GUI or the bppllist command. Ensure there is at least one path included in its Backup Selections. Resolution: It was determined that the policy contained no Backup Selections:
# /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/admincmd/bppllist <policy> -U ... Include: (none defined) ...

File paths were added to this policy.

Problem
STATUS CODE 90: Attempts to run DB2 log backups fail with a NetBackup Status Code 90 (media manager received no data for backup image).

Error
media manager received no data for backup image

Solution
Overview: Attempts to run DB2 log backups fail with a NetBackup Status Code 90 (media manager received no data for backup image). Troubleshooting:

Review the file system and determine if the db2uext2 file is present in the DB2 database directory. Log files: N/A Resolution: Invoke the db2_config script as directed on page 26 of the Veritas NetBackup 5.1 for DB2 System Administrator's Guide for UNIX.
# cd /usr/openv/netbackup/bin # ./db2_config

This creates the db2uext2 file in the DB2 database directory ($DB2_INST/sql/adm directory) as indicated on page 104 of the Veritas NetBackup 5.1 for DB2 System Administrator's Guide for UNIX . The DB2 System Administrator's Guide can be found below, in the Related Documents section.
