Fall Access Program Intern/Volunteer Available


Nueva Vida is a nonprofit organization that provides access to health care and survivorship support to Latina women with cancer in the Washington Metropolitan area, Baltimore, MD and Richmond, VA. Nueva Vida serves more than 3,500 Latinas and families a year, most of whom are women without insurance and living in poverty. The organization advocates for and facilitates the timely access of state-ofthe- art, life-saving cancer screening, diagnostic, and treatment services. Those diagnosed with cancer are offered much needed mental health support, including one-on-one peer counseling, individual therapy, and support groups, as well as complementary and alternative medicine activities, such as yoga, recreational day trips, and mind-body therapy. Please go to our website for more information - www.nueva-vida.org We are seeking an intern/volunteer with a high sense of responsibility, good organizational skills, customer service skills, proactive and with desires to support underserved, immigrant Latinas struggling with cancer. Intern/Volunteer Description Navigation Navigate screening/diagnostic clients (interpretation, translation, accompaniment to appointments) Screening campaigns (registration sheets, scheduling appointment, reminders phone calls) Assist in navigation of screening/diagnostic clients to ensure o Completion of intake, baseline and other forms on ETO database Assist patient navigator in proper follow-up after screening campaign Assist patient navigator with current cancer clients with translation of documents, and communication. Outreach Assist in the planning, development and execution of special events Assist in creation and execution of marketing campaigns Participate in community activities, health fairs, festivals, etc. as vendors/presenters ensuring proper and timely registration materials and registration procedures for Nueva Vida Programs Assist in planning and coordinating presentations and workshops to the community, health centers clinics, hospitals, community organizations, and government organizations Assist in creating, printing and disseminating outreach materials as needed Record outreach efforts, activities and entity orientation on ETO database on a daily basis Update resources database and report back to Access and Outreach

Ideal candidates must have deep interest in working with underserved populations, women's issues and bilingual/conversational (English / Spanish). Due to the nature of the assignments, this internship is ideal for undergraduate/ graduate students interested in gaining experience in the nonprofit industry and/ or public health. Commitment: Minimum 10 hours weekly for the length of an academic semester (120 to 180 hrs approx), flexible hours, and when your schedule allows some weekends, also.
