LADIES AUX PRESIDENTS CORNER

School is starting, Fall is in the air. Where did the summer go! Starting in October on the 1st Sunday of the month the Post, Men's Auxiliary and Ladies Auxiliary will be serving lunch. In Oct. it will be Roast Beef with mashed potatoes & gravy, Hamburger steak with mushroom gravy, hamburger/cheese burger and fries. It will be served from 11 to 2:00 We will only be doing this on the 1st Sunday of the month. I hope you will come out and support this great organization. The monies raised will be used for Veterans programs. We will be looking for volunteers for these events, give me a call if you are interested in helping out. It is that time of year, we have mailed out our first letter asking you to pay your 2014 dues. Have you ever considered going life; you don't have to worry about renewing your membership again? Give Cindy Erickson or me a call if you have any questions. The Auxiliary is busy selling Cancer jewelry; we have a beautiful red rose necklace, pin, and earrings. We will be down at the club selling, the jewelry makes great Christmas present and all the proceeds go to help fight cancer! Our meeting in September has been moved to the 2nd Monday, because of Labor Day Holiday. Come join us for the meeting, it starts at 6 PM. We have a District meeting September 7th, in East Grand Forks, this will be our own Sister, Lynette Andel's first meeting as our District President. I am confident she will do a wonderful job and be a great leader. September 13, 14, & 15 is the Fall Conference in Alexandria. Keep our Veterans and their families in your prayers. COMMANDERS CORNER

Greeting comrades, as I write this summer is coming to an end. I hope all of you had a wonderful time. With the slow season at the club winding down look for a few changes, first and foremost we are raising drink prices a quarter starting st September 1 . Do not blame the staff for this! As many of you know prices of everything from gas to groceries have gone up, with that the price of alcohol has increased. I hate to think of the changes we will have to make when Obama care comes into play. We are still looking at that. With the coming of fall, we are considering having the Supper club open on Saturdays and Al Gordon is looking at different specials such as prime rib and the like. Stay tuned for more information. If you have not tried the VFW supper club, I encourage you to stop on by. You will leave full and have leftovers all for a great price. Al really goes out of his way with the quality of food he puts out. Also starting in September nd we will be serving biscuits and gravy the 2 Sat of the month. In closing, as many of you fully realize our organization is shrinking. It is next to impossible to get anybody to do anything. There is a core group of us who do 99% of the work for the Post and then there are those that sit and complain about everything. Yet these people won't do a thing to help. This includes employees and members, Post and Auxiliary, we used to be an organization of selfless service, if we do not change this way of thinking and doing the VFW will cease to exist. by John Lopez As we expected a $10.00 dues increase for continuous members was passed at the National Convention. Earlier this year I was told this increase would start on January 1 2014, and I expect to be able to confirm that at the Fall Conference in September. This was something that was passed by the National organization and will happen to every VFW Post. Currently our yearly membership costs $25.00. When this increase takes effect our yearly dues will go to $35.00. Since I do not yet know for sure when the increase will happen, I would advise everyone that pays their membership yearly to pay now while it is still $25.00. You may also want to consider becoming a life member so you will no longer have to worry about dues increases. Once I know for sure when this increase starts I will send a letter out to all the continuous members that have not yet paid their dues for this year. In Comradeship, John

Well another summer has come and gone, as Fall looms just around the corner. Mark your calendar, as the Men's Auxiliary's will start serving pancakes, sausage & scramble eggs every 3rd Saturday of the month until the end May. I would like to personally invite everyone to the opening pancake feed September 21st. We are looking forward to another great year. Might be an addition to the Menu. Also congratulations go out to Roger Christopherson who was the winner of the $200.00 Walmart Gift Card. The Men's Auxiliary still takes part in the State's Adopt A Highway Program on Highway 9. If you know someone that is interested in joining the Men's Auxiliary please give me a call and I will get them signed up. We meet the 2nd Thursday of the month at 7:00 PM; all members are welcome at the meetings. Last month the 2014 renewals were sent out and we have had 15 renew their memberships. JUNIOR GIRLS CORNER

We had the summer off, now we need to get back to learning about this wonderful organization. We have a meeting on Aug 26th at 7:30 to discuss making a Poppy Display for Fall Conference. This will be the girl's first opportunity to go to the conference. They will have a booth set up, stop by and show your support. We will be marching in the Great Moorhead Days parade on September 6th. Our first regular meeting is September 8th at 12:30.
