Effective Ministry in Our Time Gospel Ministers/Workers Congress, 17 August, 2013

Welcome Address

oming together from different denominations under one powerful sincere umbrella, is a thing of joy to us on this great day.

Our prayer is that everyone present makes the best of the opportunity, God in His infinite mercy, is granting us at such a time as this. Gospel Ministers Fellowship International is born out of yearning hearts of great men and women, crying for revival of the church, regular training of church leaders and workers, to meet the global challenges of confronting dark powers, economic recession, unemployment, marital failures and moral decay today. It is our fellowship. It is our vision. It is our own. The team is working together to fight the decay and the pollution freely rocking the Church which God had made us overseers. The advice is put all your fears aside but open up your heart and be blessed of the Lord. The Messages, Seminars, and Workshops have been designed to help our various ministries, bringing all servant-leaders to excellence in Ministry. In all things and at all times during this conference, everyone is advised to maintain the golden rule Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets. (Matt. 7:12), and to heed the counsel of Apostle Paul to the Philippians: Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things (Phil. 4:8). Be a true ambassador of Christ and of your denomination. We do hope that what God is starting today shall go the distance and help to bring transformation to all our local assemblies and nation at large. Should you have questions, or feel you are not given such treatment you expected, please meet moderators of the programme in the spirit of love and unity of the faith. Our watch words always Holiness, Integrity, Humility, Diligence and Loyalty should guide all your actions. May God bless and meet with you especially on this day. You are Welcome.

CONFLICT RESOLUTION/MANAGEMENT
By Rev. Dr. Isaac Oriakhi Gospel Light Redemption Ministries, Abuja, Nigeria

Texts: Phi. 4:1-3; Mt. 5:23-26; 18:15-17.

I
I.

t is the responsibility of each believer to seek to resolve conflicts. Every believer is to be a peace maker. Mt. 5:9; Heb. 12:14. There is no room for hatred, bitterness and unresolved anger in the heart of the child of God. Surely offences will come, but we all need to know how to manage these critical times as they come or else, our relationship with our God and hope for eternal life would be jeopardized. The call today is for everyone to examine his/her heart and make sure nothing other than the love/joy of the Lord is allowed to stand. If we are to have all things common like it was in the early church, we have to live in peace among ourselves - Acts 2:42-47, Mark 9:50. UNDERSTANDING CONFLICTS: Acts 15:1-34; 6:1-7 Conflict is a situation of disagreement/argument which commonly results into unfriendliness, bitterness and bad behaviours. A situation where two or more people are opposite each other and find it difficult to get along. A situation that leads to a breakdown in communication, fellowship, relationship and obvious bitterness. A situation that has brought disaffection between persons, which if not taken care of, could give Satan opportunity to wreck havoc among Gods people. Eph. 4:26-27. A serious difference of opinions/wishes leading to clash of interests. This could degenerate to open quarrel, exchange of harsh words, ugly compliments and physical reactions.

II.

CAUSES OF CONFLICTS These situations are likely to cause conflict: When two or more people do not understand themselves. When they have divergent views with each claiming superiority. When certain steps are taken that do not go down well with the other party. When persons fail to give considerations to the interest of others. When ones intentions are not obvious enough to be easily understood. When there is a direct violation of or infringement on ones rights. When one feels unaccepted and so feel insecure in a body (organization). Conflict of interest, opinion, position and beneficial opportunities.

III.

EFFECTS OF UNRESOLVED CONFLICTS A vivid example could be seen in the Corinthian Church. 1Cor. 6:1-6 Brethren will go for litigation. Enmity will flourish within the Church of God.

Effective Ministry in Our Time Gospel Ministers/Workers Congress, 17 August, 2013

There will be murmurings, thereby hindering the move of the Holy Spirit. Acts 6:1 There will be division in the body, negating the unity Jesus prayed for. Jn. 17:21-23 Satan takes over the actions of supposed, brethren thereby defaming the church/leaders. Eph. 6:12. Brethren will be emboldened and prone to misbehaviour because they think that such has become a chosen standard of the organization. There would be such actions that lead to regrets and shame.

A stitch in time will always save nine. Resolution of conflicts is the key. CONFLICT RESOLUTION 1. Why Resolution? Eph. 4:26; 31; Mt. 5:24; 9; 1Cor. 13:1-13; 1Kgs. 3:25-28; Mt. 18:21; Jn. 17:20-26 The unity of the body can only flourish through the bond of peace. Eph.4:3. Unresolved conflict is like a time bomb ready to explode with devastating impact/consequences.

Wisdom therefore demands that those who are given responsibility to lead Gods people should resolve crisis timely, wisely and with all diligence. 2. Tools For Resolution 3. The Bible. 2Tim. 3:16-17 The Teachings of Christ and the Apostles. Mt. 18:15-17; 1Cor. 6:1-6 Gift of wisdom in the conflict resolver or facilitator. 1Cor. 12:7-10.

The Facilitator. Deut. 1:17 (Mediator) Must possess leadership skills to solving problems. Exod. 18:14-16. A manager of people, experienced in handling complicated cases. Must make sure that good relationships/the glory of God are the first priority. Get the parties to talk. Pay attention to the interests that are being presented. (A good listener). Listen first, and then talk second. Be seen to be transparent, unbiased, taking no sides. (Neutrality important). Avoid humiliating any of the parties. Respect the views of the people but be firm and principled. Set out the facts, Explore options together possible solutions. Aim at making peace and mending relationships. Depend on the Holy Spirit for guidance/utterance.

4.

Common Reasons For Lingering Conflicts When parties are not willing to talk and make peace. Num. 16:12-14 When people meant to be spiritual, resort to the flesh and using fleshy principles. Too busy to meet others for possible resolution of conflict. A satanic deception that one is right and the other is the one wrong. It will amount to open confrontation of my erring brother/sister, and may not be seen to be acting in love. (Pretence that all is well)

Effective Ministry in Our Time Gospel Ministers/Workers Congress, 17 August, 2013

5.

Peace Fostering Principles Expect conflicts as normal among humans. When you are angry, it is not the right time to talk. Subject recurring issues to fair discussion rules unbiased in approach to settling issues. Adjust procedure compromise if need be, for the interest of peace. 1Cor. 6:78. (Peace, purity will lead to power for Ministry and excellence as servant leaders).

6.

The How of Conflict Resolution. Mt. 18:15-17; Jam. 1:19; Rom. 12:17-21; Pro. 15:1; Mt. 5:9; Lk. 17:3; 1Cor. 6:1-6; Phi. 2:4; Col. 3:13; Lev. 19:18; Jam. 1:2-4. Get everyone involved in the conflict together to discuss the problem. Each person should speak in turn describing his/her perception of the situation (How they feel about the problem). o o Attack the problem not the person. Do not be aggressive blaming others for all that went wrong. Focus on the issues not your position on the issues.

Accept and respect that individual opinions may differ. Do not attempt to force compliance but work to develop common agreement. o Together, come to an agreement on what the conflict is about. Do not review the situation as a competition where one has to win and others lose, but work toward a solution where parties involved can have some of their needs met. o o Be willing to compromise something if that brings solution. Remember, when only one partys needs are satisfied in a conflict, it is not resolved, it will surely continue.

Together, talk about what changes necessary will be required to ensure that the solution will help achieve a harmonious resolution. Forget the past and stay in the present. Set a future date for facilitator to come and evaluate the extent on effect of reconciliation. Every resolution meeting must start with prayer and end with prayers.

Conclusion Closing such meetings must be followed with exchange of pleasantries and appreciation of the steps taken by the facilitator(s) by all parties involved. Any step that could confirm reconciliation is recommended at this point to give assurance to all parties involved.

THE BEAUTY OF A WOMAN

Bishop-Elect Mrs. Juliet Obomerelu Whole Life Christian Church International, Abuja, Nigeria.
INTRODUCTION: Every good thing of life is originally designed by the Creator to be pleasant and beautiful including the firmament of heaven and the earth - the temporary home of man. He created both male and female beautiful and this reflects in the woman. The beauty of a godly woman is a great asset that can be harnessed in the home and community, and evangelically profitable to the world, as opposed to nagging, intimidation, conflicts which violates the need and headship of the man. Are you a woman that wants to take a step into Gods true identity of beauty? Or do you aspire to continue in Gods given Beauty? This can be discovered and made real through the infallible Word of God as this study shall reveal reveals, All scripture is given by God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof for correction, for instruction in righteousness; 2 Timothy 3:16

THE ORIGIN AND MEANING OF BEAUTY Beauty began from God the Creator. God existed before the world. He made and declared all that He created to be very good. This portrayed the beauty of God. so God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. Gen 1:26-27 And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made him a woman, and brought her unto the man. Gen 2:21-23 MEANING OF BEAUTY: Beauty is to a combination of attractive qualities or delightful features. An excellent example of something. "He hath made everything beautiful in his time: Ecclesiastes 3:11a The Hebrew Meaning: 'Yaphah' is to make fair, pleasant, goodly, bright and well. Greek Meaning: 'Horaios' is to flourish in time and season. I therefore see beauty as the good and pleasant quality in a woman, which gives pleasure in the sight of God for her well being and flourish others in the light of Gods word.

Effective Ministry in Our Time Gospel Ministers/Workers Congress, 17 August, 2013

CHARACTERISTIC OF BEAUTY Irrespective of gender, colour, size and language, there is one similar character that God is looking for in every woman: a foundation raised through Jesus Christ. "Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity. 2 Timothy 2:19 In Gods foundation of truth, He initiated the redemption process by extending himself to us so that we might be saved from the wicked devices of Satan the originator of sin. Through sin we lost the original sight of Beauty as Adam and Eve introduced sin into humanity through disobedience. In Genesis 3:1-10, their sin became a circle and trap for all mankind who came after them. The consequence of this (sin) was death. As such, every mankind needs salvation, which depends solely on Gods grace. For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 6:23 For the sake of Love, (God is love and love represent the beauty of God), God gave us Jesus Christ as a gift to save mankind from sin and the effect of sin which is death. John 3:16 Psalm 149:4 says: "For the Lord taketh pleasure in his people; He will beautify the meek with salvation. The ultimate beauty is the beauty that Christ himself generates and has the power to transform and regenerate or repair any woman. According to 2 Corinthian 5:17 "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature; old things are passed away, behold all things are become new. This newness from Jesus Christ placed a high value on any godly woman. As its manifest on her inward and out ward life by the help of the Holy Spirit. MANIFESTATION OF THE INWARD BEAUTY OF A GODLY WOMAN: Living a life of Holiness: There is beauty in holiness since we know that there is no blemish in righteousness. Ps 15:1-3. Manifestation of Unconditional Love To love and show unconditional love: 1Corinthians 13:1-13 True Love is to reflect Gods nature and love. Love is the highest quality that enables a woman to sacrificially give to others and God. Love is the carrier of all the godly characters because it provokes you to do anything good for those who you truly love. To Worship God: Two types of people that God is seeking for are: True worshippers John 4:23 The lost souls Luke19:10, Judges 5:1

Effective Ministry in Our Time Gospel Ministers/Workers Congress, 17 August, 2013

To Read and Study the Scriptures: A godly woman must use the word of God to mirror the inside - 2 Timothy 2:15; because the word of God determines how a beautiful woman looks. Obedience: Deuteronomy 28:1-14. Prosperity of any godly woman depends on her obedience to God and constituted authority Eph 6:1-4, 1 Peter 3:1-6. Self Control: Galatians 5:22. It is the ability of leading oneself before leading others. A godly woman must be disciplined to make progress toward her goal. She must be careful of what she feed others with. Faith: Hebrews 11.11. Faith is the foundation on which a godly woman grows spiritually. The journey of the Heros of faith was all about invisible future. They had visions and assurance of Gods promises. Their faith was admired by other women. Must be able to point people to her source - Jesus Christ the Saviour, and she will be able to harvest souls to the kingdom of God, e.g. in John 4:28-29, the Samaritan woman ran to the street and pointed people to Christ. Prayer: John 17:11, Luke 2:26, Heb 12:2. The prayer habit of Jesus is the model for every godly woman. Hannah in 1 Sam 1:10 prayed earnestly and God rewarded her faith. Esther 4:16 was willing to give her life for her people through prayer. Anna in Luke 2:36-38 departed not from the temple until she saw the vision of our savior. A godly woman must give her time to God in prayer at every season. Submission to God: Eph. 5:22-33, James 4:7:1 Peter 3:1-8. Submission to the church authority and divine will of God is important to a godly woman and that is her beauty. Mary the mother of our savior Jesus Christ in Luke 1:26-35 submitted herself for the use of the Holy Spirit as an example of faith and humility. Builder of Home: Prov. 14:1 Every wise woman builds her house; But the foolish plucketh it down with her hand. In Prov. 31: 10-31 She: Is a planner. e.g. Deborah in Judges 4:1-16 is a positive influence. e.g. Abigail and David 1Sam 25:23-35. She had good intention. is protective. Every godly woman in the bible was protective of their faith. meets the needs of others. Do to others what they cannot do for themselves e.g. Rebecca and Abraham servant Gen 24:10-27. invests in her house. keeps herself in good shape. helps her husband and others to be successful. is unselfish, she is compassionate and healthy. has reward from God and applause from her family for her work.

Fear of God: Eccl. 12:13-14. Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: fear God, and keep his commandment; for this is the whole duty of man Prov. 1:7a; the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. The foundation of every decision is to honour and revere God. Cleanness, neatness and being domestically useful to her family.

Effective Ministry in Our Time Gospel Ministers/Workers Congress, 17 August, 2013

Conclusion The qualities of a godly woman in the sight of God are: Inner beauty (reflecting and maintaining the character of Christ) Working towards fulfilling Gods purpose on earth. Reflecting the glory of God. Maintaining value and adding value to others.

Though life itself is a battle, we know the grace of God is sufficient for every woman to start and end well in Christ by living a life of sacrifice. Knowing that the day a godly woman stops sacrificing, begins the day she stops succeeding. For example, Sarah, Abrahams wife didnt stop until she became a mother in Israel. Jochebed the Levite (Moses mother) didnt stop until her son became a leader and a deliverer of Israel. The disciples of Jesus didnt stop until they became leaders of the church. Every godly woman in the new testaments didnt stop until they saw the resurrected Jesus. Jesus our savior didnt stop until He become the Saviour of the whole universes.

You dont stop until you receive eternal reward for the overcomer. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept my faith; Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness 2 Timothy 4:7.

HYMN 255 - DOES JESUS CARE?

1. Does Jesus care when my heart is pained
Too deeply for mirth and song; As the burdens press, and the cares distress, And the way grows weary and long?

O yes, He cares I know He cares! His heart is touched with my grief; When the days are weary, the long nights dreary, I know my Saviour cares.

2. Does Jesus care when my way is dark

With a nameless dread and fear? As the daylight fades into deep nigh shades, Does He care enough to be near? To resist some temptation strong; When for my deep grief I find no relief, Tho my tears flow all the night long?

3. Does Jesus care when Ive tried and failed

4. Does Jesus care when Ive said goodbye

To the dearest on earth to me, And my sad heart aches till it nearly breaks, Is it aught to Him? Does He see?

EXCELLENCE IN MINISTRY
Ephesians 4:11-12; Romans 12:6-8; 1 Corinthians 12:4-11 By Pastor (Mrs.) Mercy E. Oriakhi Gospel Light Redemption Church, Abuja.

xcellence in ministry is a topic that deals with how to do ministry with the highest standard possible. In this paper there is a lot of emphasis placed on the fact that we are to do ministry effectively. Ministers of the gospel from Church founders, apostles, bishops, pastors etc - to the worker in training - are expected to produce tangible results in their ministries. Excellence means superior to all others of the same sort. Excel means (1) to be superior to or better than, (2) surpass, (3) to exceed, (4) to have good qualities in large measure, (5) to perform exceptional actions, (6) to be superior or better. Make no mistakes; the results of the meaning above may not just be in large size of congregation, the wealth of the ministry, popularity gained but in the achievements as recorded by heaven. Matt. 7:22. Excellence in ministry looks at the qualities that a minister possesses which will ensure a fruitful ministry. A ministers performance must be above average. As a matter of fact, every minister of the Gospel must understand that we are called to serve the Lord with excellence our personal selfish purpose. He is an excellent God - He is surrounded with excellence, and His works and dealings are excellent. His work in our lives is excellent too. We must therefore aim at serving God with excellence. Many of us demand and expect excellence from God - we expect His dealings with us to be nothing short of excellence. In the same way, we must offer God excellence particularly, in our private and public life style and in the administration of the ministry/church. 1. MINISTRIES: True, there are ministry gifts - apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers - but their principal function is to perfect the saints for the work of the ministry, including: ministry of help, administration, exhortation, giving, showing mercy, etc., Eph. 4:11-12; Rom. 12:6-8; 1 Cor. 12:4-11. Do not get trapped in the folly of comparing yourself with others. 2 Cor. 10:12. Rather, discover your individuality and accept your responsibility. Every member of the body of a lion is part of the lion and carries the aroma of royalty around it. You have "a high calling of God in Christ Jesus." Be satisfied of who you are. Ministry is not limited to the pulpit or to preaching, as it were. Rather, it covers every area of human need - social, moral, spiritual, physical, mental, etc. Wherever divine intervention is needed for the gospel of the kingdom to be enhanced, God always dispatches human agents to stand in and act on His behalf. 2. MOTIVE, MOTIVATION AND MOTIVATING FORCE: 1. Motive: A clean motive is very essential in ministry, Phil. 1:15. 2. Motivation: Do not be motivated by the things of this world. A successful life style is not measured by the quantity of accumulated possession, neither is it measured by popularity. Rather, it consists in the attainment of Gods goals and

Effective Ministry in Our Time Gospel Ministers/Workers Congress, 17 August, 2013

purposes for ones life. Everyone who is born of God has a divine plan for his life, so says the Lord in Jer. 29:11. 3. Motivation Force: Let L O V E be your motivating force and then you will break grounds. 1 Cor. 14:1; 13:1,2. You Want a Ministry? Discover your God-given assignment, pursue it and you will have a ministry. The minister must be textually sound - digging deep into the Word of God, practically full of action and focused. Ministry is not bread and butter. Crave and hunger after one thing: That I may know Him . Phil. 3:10. Ministry is more than a dream and a trance. It is more than a church title or leadership position held in a local church. It is not an organization or an association. It is a divine assignment handed down to a person by God. Ministry is not an idea, a feeling or a burden. It is carrying out a given task. Also, it is harnessing divine resources to carry out divine assignments committed into a mans hand. Everyone God called, He gave a task to perform. In fact, the entire Bible is full of called-up people, who carried out one special assignment or the other. For instance, He called Moses to deliver Israel from Egypt. Joshua was called to lead the people to Canaan. Gideon He called, to deliver His people from the Midianites. He called David to be king and Isaiah to be prophet, etc. Ministry is Stewardship: serving as a messenger (as in Elijah and Elisha), to carry out the orders of your superior. KEYS TO EXCELLENCE: Here are some keys to excellence in life and ministry. Practice them and you will experience success and breakthroughs. 1. Call of God: Acts 26:13-19. When you are called by God, you will know. It is to achieve divine purpose like Paul and host of others. Isa. 6:8. Jer.1:4-19. 2. Locate your Calling: The Bible tells us that there are diversities of gifts and callings; 1 Cor. 12:1-31. The gifting of God allows you to do whatever He is calling you to do really well. Find out what you can do with enthusiasm, interest, and fulfillment. Eph. 4:7-8, 13. 3. Divine Direction: Allow the Almighty God to lead you and direct you in your entire life and ministry. His desire is to lead you into paths of excellence 1 Kings. 8:1-66. God will give you divine directions that will lead to your breakthrough and success and prosperity. Please, allow God to lead. Do not be led by charms or contrary spirits. Blessed be the LORD, who has given rest unto his people Israel, according to all that he promised. There has not failed one word of all his good promise, which he promised by the hand of Moses his servant 1 Kings. 8:56. 4. The Holy Spirit is your Partner: The Holy Spirit is the closest and the best friend you have. He will help you attain excellence in your life and ministry. He is your guide, your comforter, your counsellor, and your teacher. Make the Holy Spirit your Associate and partner and you will excel greatly. Acts 1:8; Jn. 14:26.

10

Effective Ministry in Our Time Gospel Ministers/Workers Congress, 17 August, 2013

5. Mentoring: Ask God to give you someone you can learn from and follow as an example in your life. Your mentor must be one who has excelled in life and ministry. Moses mentored Joshua Ex. 24:13; Deut. 1:37-38. Elijah mentored Elisha 1 Kings. 19:16-21; Phil. 3:17-20. 6. Accountability: Where there is no accountability there is no responsibility. You must stay under authority of some mature ministers and be accountable to them . Rom. 14:11-12; Heb. 13:17. You also must know how to prudently expend the resources given to you by God: men, money, opportunities, wealth, etc.

7. Living a Holy life before God: You cannot compromise this. God is Holy. God calls us to Holiness also. You cannot live in sin and expect God to bring you into the place of excellence in life and ministry. 1 Pet. 1:15-16; 1 Pet. 2:9. 8. COMMON TRAPS THAT MINISTERS FALL INTO. The minister must never think that he is infallible. Here are the main ways the devil mostly uses to trap ministers. 1. The Opposite Sex-The lust of the flesh. Many great men and women of God have fallen into this trap and it has caused the downfall of their ministries. Be at alert always. Do not let the devil find a way of trapping you in this area. Genesis 39:710. 2. Love of Money. The other trap that ministers can find themselves in is to do with money or material things. Money is very helpful to the preaching of the gospel, but the Bible warns us of the love of money which is the root of all evil. 1 Timothy 6:10. Do not put your hands into evil; God will not hold you guiltless. 3. Pride of Life. There have been a lot of ministers of the gospel who have fallen into the trap of pride. Ministry usually brings fame, but then, many ministers have ended up becoming proud, James 4:6, 10. CONCLUSION: 1Timothy 6:1-21; 2 Timothy 4:7-8. Let us conduct our ministry in such a way that it commands excellence. This is the only way that we can positively influence, and change our world for Christ. Remember, pursuing excellence may not be an overnight achievement. We have to keep working at it with the help of the Holy Spirit. READ THIS: From a man who had an excellent ministry, 2 Tim. 4:5-8.

BUILDING BLOCKS FOR RELATIONSHIPS

Excerpts from the book The Five Languages of Apology by Gary Chapman & Jennifer Thomas, Northfield Publishing, Chicago, 2006. 1. EXPRESSING REGRET I am sorry STATEMENTS OF REGRET I know now that I hurt you very deeply. That causes me immense pain. I am truly sorry for what I did. I feel really bad that I disappointed you. I should have been more thoughtful. Im sorry that I caused you much pain. At the time, obviously I was not thinking very well. I never intended to hurt you, but now I can see that my words were way out of line. Im so sorry that I was so insensitive. I am sorry that I violated your trust. Ive created a road -block in our relationship that I want to remove. I understand that even after I apologize, it may take awhile for you to venture down the road of trust with me again. You were promised a service that we have not provided. I am sorry that our company clearly dropped the ball this time.

2.

ACCEPTING RESPONSIBILITY I was wrong STATEMENTS OF ACCEPTING RESPONSIBILITY I know that what I did was wrong. I could try to excuse myself, but there is no excuse. Pure and simple, what I did was selfish and wrong. I made a big mistake. At the time, I didnt think much about what I was doing. But in retrospect, I guess thats the problem. I wish I had thought before I acted. What I did was wrong. The way I spoke to you was wrong. It was harsh and untrue. I spoke out of anger, trying to justify myself. The way I spoke to you was wrong. It was harsh and untrue. I spoke out of anger, trying to justify myself. The way I talked to you was unkind and unloving. I hope you will forgive me. I repeated a mistake that weve discussed before. I really messed up. I know that it was my fault.

3.

MAKING RESTITUTION What can I do to make it right STATEMENTS OF RESTITUTION Is there anything I can do to make up for what I have done? I know I have hurt you deeply, and I feel like I should do something to repay you for the hurt Ive caused. Can you give me a suggestion? I dont feel right just saying I am sorry. I want to make up for what Ive done. What would you consider appropriate? I know that Ive inconvenienced you. May I give you some of my time to balance things out? I regret that Ive damaged your honor. May I make a (public) correction?

12

Effective Ministry in Our Time Gospel Ministers/Workers Congress, 17 August, 2013

4.

Ive broken this promise a million times. Would you like for me to put my commitment to you in writing this time? GENUINELY REPENTING Ill try not to do that again STATEMENTS OF GENUINE REPENTANCE I know that my behavior was very painful to you. I dont ever want to do that again. Im open to any ideas you have on how I might change my behavior. How could I say that in a different way that would not come across as critical? I know that what I am doing is not helpful. What would you like to see me change that would make this better for you? I really do want to change. I know Im not going to be perfect, but I really want to try to change this behavior. Would you be willing to remind me if I revert to my old patterns? Just say relapse. I think that will help me to stop and change my direction. I let you down by making the same mistake again. What would it take for you to begin to rebuild your trust in me? This is such a long-term pattern for me. While I want to change, I know it will be hard, and I may fail, hurting you again along the way. I would really appreciate it if you would help me think about a way to help my changes stick and encourage me when you see me doing things that help. Can I count on you to be my teammate in this?

5.

REQUESTING FORGIVENESS will you please forgive me? STATEMENTS REQUESTING FORGIVENESS Im sorry for the way I spoke to you. I know it was loud and harsh. You didnt deserve that. It was very wrong of me, and I want to ask you to forgive me. I know that I did hurt you very deeply. You have every right never to speak to me again, but I am truly sorry for what I did. And I hope that you will find it in your heart to forgive me. I didnt intend to hurt you but obviously I have. I realized that now, and I see that my actions were wrong even though I was just trying to have fun. Its never right to have fun if someone gets hurt. I promise you I will try to never do that again. And I want to ask you if you will please forgive me.

YOUTHS EMPOWERMENT FOR GREATNESS

By Pastor Dr. E. Hanson Ekor Overcoming Word Assembly Abuja I Samuel 16:15-23, II Thessalonians 3:7-15

outh empowerment is an attitudinal, structural (Physical), and cultural (national, social, ethnic) process whereby young people gain the ability (skill), authority (power), and agency (action) to make decisions and implement change in their own lives and the lives of other people, including youth and adults. Each major political party, whether in Nigeria, the United States, as well as many major European, African, South American (Peru), and Australian political parties, have statements supporting youth empowerment. Youth empowerment is also a central tenet of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, which every country in the world (minus the U.S. and Somalia) has signed into law. Activities - There are a variety of youth empowerment initiatives underway around the world. Youth empowerment occurs in homes, at schools, through youth organizations, government policy-making and community organizing campaigns. Major structural activities where youth empowerment happens throughout society include community decision-making, organizational planning, and education reform. Educational activities that cite youth empowerment as an aim include student-centered learning, popular education, and service learning. Free schools and youth-led media organizations often state their intention to empower youth, as well as youth voice, community youth development, and youth leadership programs. Youth empowerment is studied by a variety of scholars including Shawn Ginwright, Henry Giroux, Barry Checkoway and Mike Males. Their research is highlighted by advocacy from notable activists such as William Upski Wimsatt, Alex Koroknay-Palicz, Salome Chasnoff and Adam Fletcher. TODAYS GREAT MEN MADE CHANGES YESTERDAY Some among great men/women we have around us today are from very poor families. They are what they are today because they kept to the principles of success and greatness which does not select faces, tribes or families. The truth is that, Those Who Shall Be Great Tomorrow Start Their Planning Today. Unemployment is a serious global issue. In Europe, America, Asia, India Etc. Unemployment is increasing on an alarming rate. On December 28, 2012, a reporter to Aljazira Said, over 50 million Nigerian youths are unemployed . By first week of January 2013, the Federal Ministry of Labour and Federal Department of Statistics said 23.9 million Nigerian youths are unemployed. 600 master degree and Phd. holders struggling to pickup truck driving jobs as advertised by Dangote Holdings Company Ltd, is a wakeup call for men to work towards their

14

tomorrow. A Masters degree holder was among the scavengers picking things from refuse dump site at Lagos as an NTA documentary revealed. Graduates are among the commercial motor-cyclist riders, taxi drivers and other jobs that were meant only for the illiterates. Great men design their future, future does not design them. Someone said that it is only in Nigeria you have unemployed and under-employed men. This is what makes the poverty level in the nation very high. Over 70% of Nigerian population of 167 million are said to be very poor according world statistics. By the end of 2013, the projected population of Nigeria, according to the United Nations, shall be 170 million. China has about 6 millions of her youths graduating each year from tertiary institutions and so are other Nations including Nigeria turning out theirs in millions as well. Self-employment, self-empowerment is being used and widely canvassing world over to stem the rising tide of the ocean of unemployed youths helplessly seeking for what to do for self-sustainability and self-reliance. Many working class people have no plan for their tomorrow, which is why we have a high rate of poverty among most of the retirees. In this paper, I shall focus on principles, attitudinal process to gain the ability/skill and authority in making decisions and implement change for greatness that any man young or old should apply for become successful, irrespective of poor family situation, poor educational attainment, and lack of God father/mother. Principles of Success for Empowerment: In the face of poverty, joblessness, pains and frustration, men and women must discover what works self-employment, talents using education as a vehicle when certificate fails: PRINCIPLES 1. Faith In God, 2. Vision/Dream 3. Belief In Yourself, 4. Determination, 5. Focus, 6. Skill, 7. Hard Work,8. Courage, 9. Patience, 10. Mentoring, 11. Giving SHORT EXPLANATION: 1. FAITH IN GOD - It is God that made the world and while we were being formed in the womb, he put into us everything that will make us excel Psalms 139:14-20; Jer. 29:11. He partners with men in life, business, employment, career, politics etc.; Moulds character and purges our mind to think rightly 1Cor. 4:3-8. God raises the poor 1Sam. 2:6-9, and keeps him in safe affluence not to fall into sexual immorality, pleasure, maniacs tendency, occultism etc. 1Kings 11:2-13. 2. VISION/DREAM: Visions images, ideas, visualizations or dreams - is the mental picture of a man future state. Seeing what you will become before you actually become what you saw - Gen. 37:2-18, Gen. 41:38-46; 42:6-13; 43:26-28. Before you chose your subjects in secondary school, you were expected to know what and who you want to be and the course/career you want to pursue. It takes dream to make that vital decision. Yet, in many cases, your talent may eventually decide what your future will become, with education as vehicle. Without dreams, you merely exist for nothing. Dream gives you reason to live, takes your time, energy, money, decides your friends, mentors etc. What is your vision? What is your dream? 3. BELIEF IN YOURSELF - Discover your talents, gifts and ability and develop them to a maximum level until it becomes useful to you and your generation. Everyone has all it takes to be useful, great and wealthy only when we discover what and who we are.

15

Effective Ministry in Our Time Gospel Ministers/Workers Congress, 17 August, 2013

While you are working toward your full potential, you can do or take up whatever job that is available for sustenance. How To Discover: a. Great and positive thoughts negative and selfish thoughts ruins. b. Gracious reading habits biographies and great achievers lives. c. Golden desire for greatness and to better lives of others/ never plan/speak evil about others even in their absent. d. Good habit to learn new things (including silence observations) and take corrections on big/minor issues e. Gentle/humble relationship with people of substance that can impact your life f. Give chance for suffering to teach you her lessons, never opt out of university of pain unless you discover why he sent you to Egypt and prison. 4. DETERMINATION - Synonyms for Determination (willpower, resolve, purpose and strength of mind) makes you decide on what you want, including a resolve to be great in the midst of 23.9 million or 50 million and over 70% Nigerian that are very poor. Determine never to be among the crowd complaining around the city. Stand out. Read Acts 21:2-8. One of my members began business with N600 in 1996, retailing Cabin biscuits and other things. Two years after he bought a second hand bus. Now hes a successful business man. 5. FOCUS -Attention, effort, concentration and motivation are synonyms for focus. We live in the world of distractions from friends, enemies, internet, television programmes etc. and it takes a focused person to keep to his dreams. Men distract women and men women. Sex, alchohol, drugs, and music distract chiefly. Be focused on your career. 6. SKILL -Skill could be acquired through learning. Even if you are born with some talents, training and learning of such skills helps you walk into your greatness. What skill do you have? Other words for skill are talent, ability, expertise cleverness. A man without skill is but a bad market in the midst of serious dart of workers for employment. So many companies in Nigeria have to go outside the country to bring in skilled people and pay them handsomely while millions still roam the street in search of jobs. Get skills today, if possible in more than one area. When certificate fails you, turn to your talent Singing, acting, comedy, dancing, fashion, cooking, etc. 7. HARD WORK -The daughter of Bruce taking charge of the management of the fathers business conglomerate said it is hard work that helped her to maintain and expand the fathers business beyond words. The late MD/CEO of News Engineering Ltd, Sir Ojimadu Nwaeze often said, hard work does not kill. For Mr Adanuga Jr. (GCON) Has been in business for over 30 years. From importation of removable car stereos, to lace importation, tomato, vegetable oil, wine and dealer on Peugeot Automobile of France, First Nigeria oil drilling company in commercial quantity, founder of two banks Davcom Bank and Equitorial Trust Bank, a successful contractor to the military high command supplying arms and building military barracks, owner of Conoil Plc., he owns a telecom company, Globacom. How would a son of a school teacher become this great? In Adamu Ningis tribute on his 60th birthday, he asserted, that nothing facilitates success more than PERSISTENCE, PERSEVERANCE AND HARD WORK. Lazy people will die of hunger and poverty. Beware!

16

Effective Ministry in Our Time Gospel Ministers/Workers Congress, 17 August, 2013

8. COURAGE = Bravery, daring are other words for courage. For a person that has no might of his/hers to fight the great and the mighty of the economic, political, social, financial and all wicked powers of men and spirits of this world, he must be brave. Courage makes one march in to victory in the face of failure and challenges. Be brave if you must be great. 9. PATIENCE -Persistence, endurance, perseverance are synonyms for patience. No man is great that did not endure pains, effects of failures, and humiliations while on his way to success. Endure. 10. MENTORING -Having a mentor, a guide, a counsellor, a supporter, a teacher, an adviser that serves for your role model is what has made many worlds over great. The world is like a very wide ocean, everyone in any field needs a guide with a compass and experience to put him through if he must attain success. Who are your mentor and a role model? God and your pastor fit in here. 11. GIVING: Giving to God promotes his works. Giving to Gods servants, giving to the poor, the helpless, the hopeless, raisig others with your wealth from obscurity and shame to glory and honour, opens wide heavens door to riches for your greatness, joy and honour. 12. KEEP VOWS: Some give to God 20%, others 30%, some others still 70% and 90% for their tithes. Do not hesitate to pay at least the mandatory 10% for your tithes and defer not to redeem any vow you made to God. Make God your business and financial partner. It pays. Conclusion Change your mental and physical attitude. Have a skill and be an expert in it. Go with your dream. Believe in yourself. Be courageous, resilient. Will you? YES! I I I I I I shall shall shall shall shall shall be great. not die young. not die poor. not die a failure. not die a sinner. fulfil Gods vision, plan and purpose for my life.

ABLE MEN
by PASTOR IMMANUEL OLUGBENGA (Author of Daily Communication with God) Isaiah 6:8, Matt 25: 21, Galatians 5:1, Ephesians 6: 10-13, 2 Tim 1:13, 2Tim 3:14 Col 1:7, 1Cor 4:17, 1Cor 1:27, 1Sam 17:17, Matt 21:1-7, Isaiah 30: 8-11, 2Tim4:1-5 Acts 4:19-20. INTRODUCTION This paper is aimed at encouraging diligent and sincere preaching of the truth with holy living. It is also aimed at making men and women to be able for the Lord. The era we live in, is characterized by men and women, including naked preachers, whose souls are bare and uncovered by the much needed holiness and righteousness, the garment of the true saints and able men for God. We live in an era, where men have been disabled world over, even in our churches. Messages from the pulpits have been coloured with the love for Mammon and worldliness. Men of God, we are not supposed to be busy building castles around our denominational empires, and putting the cart before the horse, as such, will make us wanting in our chosen calling. The Almighty God who saw the end from the beginning said in 2 Tim 4: 3 and 4 that, the time will come when people can no longer endure sound doctrines; and the time is now. It takes matured mindset to be able to endure sound doctrine. In the midst of this pandemonium and hullabaloo against righteousness and holiness, in the midst of corruption, iniquity and unrighteousness that has taken over, God is still looking for able men to serve him. We are going to look at able men under; A. the physical. B. The Spiritual. A. THE PHYSICAL 1. Men as husbands, family heads and their responsibilities. 2. Husbands role in leading their family to heaven 3. Men who will lead the community The able husbands role in the bible starts with leadership. Scripture makes it clear that a husband must be a leader of his home and have a healthy control of his life. It is good at this point to talk about the roles of the able husband. 1Tim 3. In speaking of two church leadership positions traditionally filled by men, teaches that an overseer and deacon must manage their family well. Verse 5 specifically says if anyone does not know how to manage, how can he take care of Gods church. Can you see the essence of being an able husband now? I believe the same thing applies to leaders of the community. The family is a micro empire, a testing ground for governance. Anyone that fails at family level in governance may not be able to effectively govern the church or community. Able men who can rule the constituency called family in the fear of God are needed to rule the community, the state and the nation.

18

Effective Ministry in Our Time Gospel Ministers/Workers Congress, 17 August, 2013

Husbands should influence their wives and families in accordance with biblical teachings. The fruit of an able, good and biblically based husband is a strong, confident, spiritually mature wife and family. B. THE SPIRITUAL. BIBLICAL DESCRIPTION OF ABLE MEN Our perception of who an able man should be may definitely differ from that of God. If I ask you who is an able man? You may have one or two things to say as a man; but it may not be pertinent to Gods view of who an able man is. What then is the biblical description of an able man? 1. 2. 3. 4. Able Able Able Able men men men men are men are men are men are men of availability. of dependability. of Go Ye. of stability.

God is looking for able men. Can God count on you to be among the able men of this generation? WHAT KIND OF MEN GOD NEEDS IN THIS ERA 1. God needs men who are faithful. 2. He needs men who are faithful to the word. 3. God needs men of teachable spirit. I know that you want God to use you mightily; at this point we need to ask ourselves the kind of people God uses. 1. 2. 3. 4. 1Cor 1:27 God uses the unknown and the ordinary he will receive the most glory. God uses obedient people and makes them able men. 1 Sam 17:17. God uses people that are consecrated. God uses committed people. 5. God uses courageous people.

Every preacher need to preach sermons that will make heavens to rejoice. WHAT ARE THE KIND OF PREACHING THAT GOD WANTS ABLE PASTORS TO PREACH? 12 Tim 4:1-5 1. We should stop preaching what the people want to hear. Because we are a messengers of the Lord, we should take messages from the Lord to the people. 2. Create time and read 1st and second Timothy. 3. Preach the word and doctrines of Christ of Christ 4. Do what you preach. PRAYER POINTS

YOUTH AND THE NEW AGE

by Rev. Michael I. Nwabufo
Gods Endtime Mission (Gem), Abuja, Nigeria

he topic of this seminar, as relevant as it is in the period we are in, will not make any meaning until some terms are separated and defined.

Oxford English Dictionary defined Youth as the period between childhood and adult age. It is a period of life from puberty to the attainment of full growth. . In terms of age, it could be regarded as age between eighteen and thirty-five or there about, depending on the circumstances surrounding the youth, and also, the locality of the youth. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNICEF) defined Youth as a period of transition from the dependence of childhood to adulthoods independence and awareness of our interdependence as members of a community. King James Version dictionary defines Youth as part of life that succeeds to childhood. In a general sense, Youth denotes the whole early part of life, from infancy to manhood; but it is not unusual to divide the stages of life into infancy, childhood, youth, and manhood. The Greek word for Youth, neonate can mean up to 40 years of age. Youth can also be seen as a time when the young is beautiful, full of vigor and honour. Youth can also be seen as age of unwise and wrong choices that lead to regrets (Luke 15:15 - 32). Definition of New Age New age means diverse group of cultural attitudes arising in late 20th century Western society that are adapted from those of a variety of ancient and modern cultures, that emphasize beliefs (as reincarnation, holism, pantheism, and occultism) outside the mainstream, and that advance alternative approaches to spirituality, right living, and health. But in the context of this seminar, New Age means contemporary/current happenings, modern issues relating to fashion, style, high-tech etc Youth and The New Age What should be done to assist and help Youth that live in a time heavily influenced by a world that is under the control of those cultural attitudes that has to do with the current happenings, modern issues relating to fashion, style, music, etc that devalue the nature of God in man.? Challenges of the new age on the Youth A Christian youth is the target of the Devil because they are the beauty of the church, they represent the hope of tomorrow and so, poses all kinds of challenges on their way. In this seminar we will discuss few of such challenges. Christian principles and biblical teachings (Christian values) are no longer upheld strongly in churches and homes. Churches seek to become mega-churches at the expense of the life of the Youth. Youths are in daily contact with his/her environment that presents him/her with things that make him to be functionally a biblical illiterate. There is also the problem of not being able to focus on issues for a very long time because of the existence of all kinds of gadgets that can be used simultaneously. Youth can no longer stand a sermon that is more than fifteen minutes long. They are confronted with social and technological and cultural distractions everywhere and every day.

20

Effective Ministry in Our Time Gospel Ministers/Workers Congress, 17 August, 2013

Imported culture of drug addiction, alcohol abuse, occult involvement, sexual perversion, night clubbing and other anti-social behaviors have consumed the strength of our youths. Breakdown of family structures have become a problem facing so many youths. Families and churches are no longer a place of nurture but a place of all sorts of abuse of the youth. The poor economic situation in the country has also exposed the youth to all kinds of violence. The government and the society in general do not have any genuine program for the youth. The church has failed in her responsibility towards the youth, and families have forgotten that their future lies in the success of the youth. The new age generations do not know God and are not seeking God because most of the youth were not introduced to God by their parents/families. (2 Tim 1:4) Restore the Christian values for which the church and homes are known, and create a good nurturing environment. Family structure and values need to be refurbished, restored and made functional. Love and care for the Youth must be restored in the church through an effective Youth Ministry. Christs doctrine and His Kingdom principles must be instilled in the Youth as that is the only way to flush the alien culture of sin and death they have embraced and erect a foundation of new creation and for walking in the spirit and newness of life. The nation, church and families must set up workable structures that effectively cater for the Youth. Nurturing, mentoring and developing the faith of the Youth must be brought to the front burner of the church. That is to say that a relationship that will develop the faith of the Youth in the church should be established.

How To Overcome These Challenges Youths Are Facing

God's Expectation of the Youth In The New Age Always read your bible (Joshua 1:8; Psalm 119:9, Deut. 11:18). Always pray(Luke 18:1 - 8). Always praise and worship God (Psalm 139:14). Be careful of the people you move with. You are strongly advised to move with believers in the church. (1 Cor. 15:33, Eph 4:29). Run away from fornication and all youthful lust (2 Tim 2:22 - 25, Rom 12:1 - 2). Have respect for your parents (Exodus 20:12, Ephesians 6:1-2, Prov. 1:8 -10, Prov. 23:22,1Pet 5:5- 9). Listen to Christian music that are edifying (Phil 4:8.) In using 21st ICT gadgets such as internet facilities, sites that will lead you to evil should be avoided. Joseph - Genesis 37:2, 39:1 - 4 Ruth - Ruth 1:16 - 18 David - 1 Sam 17:42 Josiah - 2 Chronicles 34:1 - 2 Mary the mother of Jesus Christ - Luke 1:26 -33 Timothy - 1 Tim 1:1- 2 Jeremiah - Jer. 1:4 8

Examples for the Youth to emulate

MINISTRY FINANCE
Bishop Mike Akpami, Christian Teaching Centre, Abuja, Nigeria. Exodus 25:1-9 A. INTRODUCTION Finance is an integral part of ministry. While we have churches in all kinds of settings doing ministry in all kinds of ways, money seems to be a common denominator among them. When Moses was about to build the tabernacle(church) in the Old Testament, the first thing God said to him after being in Gods presence for forty(40) days was to te ll the Israelites to bring God an offering that will be used to build the sanctuary for Him to dwell in. No doubt, it takes money to build a ministry, and it takes good money to build a good ministry. Many ministries today are going through tough times financially. Giving is low, yet studies have shown that 85% of pastors are uncomfortable preaching on money. But, Gods plan has always been to meet ministry needs through the sacrificial giving of Gods people.(Jeff Berg & Jim Burgess). So for your ministry to effectively fulfill its mandate, you have to be able to get Gods people to give to it. B. PRIMARY WAYS TO RECEIVE FINANCES 1. Tithes (Mal.3:8, Gen.14:18) 2. Offerings: free will offerings, pledges, fund raising events, donations (Mal.3:8, Acts 2:45; 4:34-35, Ex.35:29, Deut.23:21-23). 3. Supernatural favours (Ps. 44:3, Deut 6:10-12 ) C. SOME REASONS WHY PEOPLE ARE NOT GIVING FAITHFULLY TO YOUR CHURCH 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. People People People People People People People are ignorant about Gods demands on giving to the work of the ministry. are stingy with their resources. are self-centred when it comes to finances. mistrust you or your leadership team. dont feel needed. dont have a clear picture of where the church is headed. feel used.

D. WAYS TO INCREASE GIVING 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Clearly articulate your churchs vision for ministry. Share how the churchs mission is changing lives. Share real experiences of how the church is making a difference in the lives of people. Preach and teach about giving (Money, assets and estates). Explain the ministrys financial situation but with optimistic outlook. Hold financial workshops and seminars that will help people build themselves, their gifts and talents.

7. 8. 9. 10. 11. 12. 13.

Raise friends and partners that will be financial contributors to the ministry . (Acts 16:13-16, 27:1-3). Offer quality as a ministry Pray that God blesses your people and that He opens their hearts to give. Thank members for their support and financial contributions. Help people develop a generosity mindset. No substitute for integrity. See God as your unfailing source.
