Dragon News News for you to Know about Kindergarten

Highlights!
New Skills include: Language Arts:
-- counting words in sentences. This is a skill that goes with print concepts and increasing your childs awareness of text in books as they read. When you are reading books to your child at home , have them count the words in a short sentence. (3 to 5 words) Have your child tell you how many words there are. Often the students want to count the letters in every word in the sentence. We will continue to practice at school as well.

More for this week:

Okay, Now your child has a job to keep up with and so do you!. You are receiving a homework calendar for September. There are pages attached to the calendar. Hopefully these will better guide you to help you with each activity listed. The calendar includes specific instructions for completion. Remember, these pages are NOT to be completed in one sitting. In fact, be sure to stay on the correct week since we will work on the letters, and skills in the order that is on the calendar in class first. You may work at your own pace, but if we have not covered skills in class it may confuse your child. The intention is to have you the parents, monitor and sit with your child to check and help them complete the work. It is to also provide you the flexibility to do on an evening that fits your schedule. Homework and Reading logs are due as indicated on the calendar the day after the last activity listed. The calendar states Homework Due at the end of the monthI do not want the homework packets any earlier then the end of the month. Please be sure to put your childs name on the packet before turning it in. October will begin a new packet.

Homework Calendars have started!

The students are getting into routines a lot better and seem to enjoy the friendships they are making. They love being part of The Dragon Team. (our class team name) . We have been busy these first few weeks and it is hard to believe we are already into September.

From the Teachers Desk:

Reminders !
Tuesday September 2nd-Labor Day No school Homework Calendars begin Tuesday the 3rd September 9th-Cookie Dough orders and money are due! Be sure to mark your calendar for October the 9th and 10thboth of these days are designated for Parent Teacher ConferencesConferences will be after school and through-out the evening. Students with siblings at Bridgeport get the first priority for scheduling times- we have to coordinate times with the siblings teacher(s)

Dont forget to support the BPE fundraiser and turn your orders in on time You received a colored copy of the letters and sounds at our first parent meeting or your childs first day of school---students need to put these on the refrigerator or in another visible hang up place each evening students should say the letter name and the sound it makes Example A- Alligator /a/ /a//a/ B- Then A- acorn long /a//a//a/ C- B-baby- /b//b//b/ Etc.. Letters and sounds are the first obstacle overcome and the only way to succeed is through daily practice with both! Have a great week-Mrs. Hay
