YEAR OF FAITH (2012 - 2013)

THE CHURCH IS A PLACE OF HEALING Part I The Story of the Good Samaritan is not just a story about a foreigner who did a good deed for a man who was beat up and robbed. It is ultimately a story of Christ and His Church. Various Fathers of the Church show the fuller meaning of the story: The man who is victimized is mankind who fell away from God by sin (symbolized by his going down from the Holy City of Jerusalem to Jericho). He is beaten down by sin and the assaults of the demons and left helpless. The priests and Levites who passed the man by, signify the insufficiency of the Old Testament to restore mankind. The stranger, the Samaritan, is a symbol of Christ, who, in a sense, is a foreigner as He is the Word whose origin is not from earth. He came down from heaven, and became man for the salvation of mankind.

The Parish Family of Saint Anne Byzantine Catholic Church in San Luis Obispo, California Welcome our New Pastor The Reverend Father Milan Kasperek and His wife Maria

THE CHURCH IS A PLACE OF HEALING Part II The Samaritan man had compassion on the man who was beaten and robbed by the thieves. In a similar way, Christ looks upon all people and has compassion for them because they were in distress and scattered (Mt. 9:36). The man poured wine on the victims wounds to cleanse them, and also oil for healing. Christ poured out His blood to cleanse us from our sins, and He pours upon us the oil of healing. Then the Samaritan lifted up the man, and placed him on a beast of burden. Christ lifted us up when He took up and bore the Cross and carried our sins and our sorrow. The man was brought to an inn where he was cared for until he recovered. Christ brings mankind into the Church. The Church community is the place in which Christ heals us by His word and through the sacramental Mysteries. There He also strengthens us by our fellowship with one another. (Fr. Anthony Hernandez, Office of Religious Education, Eparchy of Phoenix)

May God grant them many happy blessed years

Reverend Father Milan and his wife Maria cut their welcoming cake during the reception to welcome them to our Parish Family.
