for

1. Determine what the question is asking 2. Solve the math for at least the first TWO terms
a. Eliminate the problem of (+, x) or (, )

3. *Ignore the first or last terms and focus on workable numbers

a. Remember, if its a sequence it doesnt matter what terms you work with

Sequences in Word Problems

Read the problems and use your knowledge of numeric and geometric sequences to answer the questions.
Peter is currently 50 inches tall. If he grows at a rate of 2 inches per year, how tall will he be in 5 years? Esteban buys a plant that he measures as 8 centimeters high. Four days pass, and he measures it again and sees that it is now 16 centimeters high. About how many centimeters did it grow each day?

The price of a companys stock starts on Monday at $15.00. On Tuesday it falls to $13.50 and by Wednesday it is at $12.00. If this pattern continues, how much will the stock be worth at the end of Friday?

Marvin likes to buy pens. On Monday he bought 1, on Tuesday he bought two, and on Wednesday he bought four. Assuming he continues to buy pens at this rate, how many pens will he buy on Friday? [7]

Multi-step Sequences
Circle the best answer for the table: A, B, C, or D.

1.

x 4 8 12 20

y 15 31 47 79

a. Add 26 to the input, then divide by 2 b. Multiply the input by 3, then add 3 c. Multiply the input by 7, then add 3

4.2 Rules of Tables

2. x 1 3 7 8 y 3 7 15 17 b. Multiply the input by 1, then add 2 c. Multiply the input by 2, then add 1 a. Add 2 to the input

3.

x 4 5 6 10

y 3 5 7 15

a. Subtract 1 from the input b. Multiply the input by 2, the subtract 5 c. Multiply the input by 3, then subtract 9
