Doorlocks & Security on the Chevrolet Trailblazer & GMC Envoy 2002

IMPORTANT
The following document illustrates a method of interfacing the doorlock system, which involves soldering wires directly to one of the vehicles printed circuit boards. The solder points on the board are very small and any error could damage the pc board and cost a substantial amount of money to repair. Therefore, it is recommended that this modification be done only by an experienced installer or technician.

HOW IT WORKS: With the introduction of the new Chevrolet Trailblazer, GM has gone to a serial data buss for the doors. This means that the doorlock wires, as well as the doorpins and power window wires do not travel from the doors to the inside of the vehicle. All wires must be accessed inside the doors. To make matters worse, all the controls are mounted in a selfcontained door module. You will need to solder 2 wires to the inside the module, directly to the printed circuit board. Once this is done, the wires can be run into the vehicle to connect to the relays as shown in the last diagram. Triggering the doorlock through these wires requires 5 volts. The diagram illustrates how to achieve this using 2 resistors. STEP 1 Remove the Door Control module by gently prying up on the front and back of the pod. The module is held in place by 2 clips.

STEP 2 The door panel is held in place by the snap-in trim plate around the inside door handle, and two 10-mm bolts indicated by the arrows in the diagram. The rest of the panel is held in place with clips. Disconnect all the plugs from the DDM before continuing.

STEP 3 After disconnecting all the connectors, remove the plastic trim panel. Use a small screwdriver to pry back the tabs that hold the unit together. You can then separate the top and bottom and expose the pc board.

STEP 4

Pull up on the top pc board to expose both sides. The diagram on the left shows to 2 points you need to connect to. The same holes are shown from the back in the diagram on the right. Use approx. 24-26 gauge wire. This should allow you to pass a few strands through the holes to allow a good solder point. This should be done with a soldering pen, NOT A SOLDERING GUN. You should solder your wires to the back of the board to allow for the wires to be easily run out from the door module. STEP 5 After making the connections, make sure that your solder points are not touching any of the surrounding components. A small hole must be drilled in the side of the case to allow the wires to come out. You should tie a knot in the wires on the inside of the case to prevent the wires from being pulled on accidentally. The module can then be put back together.

After the module has been re-assembled, you can run your wires into the vehicle and make your connections to the relays. It is important that you respect the resistor values as close as possible to insure that you have 5 volts when you measure between the 2 resistors. The GRAY/BLACK doorpin wire is found on the modules BLUE connector. Pulse this wire with a ground at the same time as your lock pulse to arm the factory alarm. The LT.GREEN (-) disarm wire is also located on the BLUE connector. Run both wires into the vehicle at the same time as the wires from your door module.
