Bell English IV/ Period 2 August 27th 2013 Deadpool Comic At its simplest, a comic book is a series of words and pictures that are presented in a sequential manner to form a narrative that may or may not be humorous (McCloud 1993). Originating in the United States in the late 1800s, the comic book contains everyday language, slang, and idiom, as well as color and a sophisticated interplay between text and image all serving an explanatory, and commercial purpose in American culture. Traditionally occupying the fringes of pop culture, the comic book is actually a valuable historical text that comments on how young people and adults alike identify with cultural and political issues. As such, a comic book is much more than just a series of words and pictures with marginal cultural importance. Indeed, given its complex cultural and commercial role, a definition of comic book raises an amalgam of theoretical debates about sequence, narrative, image, text, genre, and art as well as its relation to other genres, such as childrens literature (Meskin 2007). At the very least, comic books can be seen as a result of pressures by artists and consumers as well as by the historical forces acting on both groups. Much more than just a form of entertainment for kids, comic books are a serious and sophisticated art form that both feeds off of and creates cultural formulas and historical constructs. Deadpool is a fictional Marvel character that vindicates his action with wages. As much of a Super Hero he is, he does have super powers that help him rejuvenate flesh wounds. Deadpool (Wade Wilson under the mask) is a superb assassin and mercenary, although he may be considered a villain in the in the eyes of some, Deadpool was written as an Anti-Hero, hes not a good guy, hes not bad, Deadpool isnt even viewed as neutral. Deadpool does his thing for money. Deadpools personality deprives of his Loud Mouth and his infatuation with the women. Deadpool can pull off all sorts of heists and robbing lives. With his assassinating skills and benevolence for woman he makes the perfect marvel character. The absence of mercy displays Deadpool as a nefarious Hero. Deadpool has the title Anti-Hero and super powers which makes him partly a Super Hero. In the comic A Merc With a Mouth Deadpool saves Earth so that more or less portrays Deadpool as a super hero. A little of Wade Wilsons past which consisted of is mother dying of cancer while he was young and his father (who was in the military) was physically abusive. Wade was a delinquent in his teenage years, possibly to spite his father. However one night while drinking with his friends his father attempt to take him out of the club one of his friends stole Wade's Fathers handgun and killed him. Following a brief stint of military service, Wade began his mercenary career while still in his late teens. Deadpool was published by Marvel Comics and created by artist Rob Liefeld and writer Fabian Nicieza. In 1991, Nicieza joined with artist Rob Liefeld in co-plotting and writing the final three issues of the New Mutants. In those issues Liefeld and Nicieza created the characters Deadpool and Shatterstar as well as the super team, X-Force. Liefeld and Nicieza then produced an ongoing X-Force title. (Wikipedia) Deadpool forwardly became this revolutionized Marvel character that stirred up the Marvel Comic industry and fans of Marvel and Wizard magazine. Rob Liefeld had childhood dream to draw comic books. As a teenager, he fulfilled that dream and began working for Marvel Comics X-men titles and introducing the world to Deadpool, Cable and X-Force! In 1992 Rob launched Image Comics with the debt of the popular

Youngblood franchise which has gone on to sell 70 million copies worldwide. Rob was asked by Marvel to re-imagine the classic Marvel heroes, Captain America and the Avengers for a new generation, which lead to the creation of the best selling Heroes Reborn universe. Rob was thrilled to join Phil Hotsenpiller in creating the Armageddon Now series. (Rob Liefeld 2010). In the comic Secret Invasion Volume of 1 and only the first quarter of volume 1 the Skrulls were invading a baseball stadium, Deadpool (disguised as a mascot) came and destroyed a Skrull gunship to get their attention. Then Deadpool then asks to join them which ends with him getting kidnapped and used for experiments. The Skrulls then use his DNA to make super Skrulls with Deadpool's healing factor. Deadpool then asks to train the super Skrulls and they agree. Deadpool then trained them to be just like him, insane. The Skrulls then see the error of using Deadpool's DNA because since none of the super Skrulls have a cancer killing blood cells, they're bodies just kept creating and multiplying cells which caused them to explode. When the lead Skrull scientist discovered this he was shocked and then later killed by Deadpool. Deadpool then reveals his real mission, which is to find the Skrull Queen's weakness but the data Deadpool found was taken by Norman Osborn. Known for many years as the Green Goblin and SpiderMan's arch-enemy, Osborn fooled the world into thinking he's a hero under the guise of the Iron Patriot and outed many heroes as cowards. His downfall was caused by his own insanity when he led a Siege on Asgard. Norman Osborn (formerly the Green Goblin) became the new leader of the super-powered community after the Skrull invasion. Osborn tricked Deadpool when Wade was sending important Skrull data to Osborn's rival Nick Fury which ended up in Wade not getting paid. Osborn instead used the data to defeat the Skrulls and become the hero who defeated mankind's enemies, which greatly upset Deadpool. Deadpool has since made it his purpose to take out Osborn, especially after he sent out his former friend Bob, Agent of Hydra, Tiger Shark and the Thunderbolts after Wade to kill him. Wade could even forgive Osborn for it if he agreed to pay Wade 100,000,000 dollars within 12 hours, but Osborn refused. Deadpool is a character of ultimate wages and has to make bold decisions of immense probability. The such act of becoming this merciless assassin, Wade Wilson takes on some amazing and more tragic stories than other characters. Deadpool is involved in many marvel stories such as the comics X-Men, Spiderman, New Mutants, Iron Patriot (Norman Osborn) and even the Avengers. Deadpool, the womanizer, the assassin, and the loud mouth Wade Wilson is, does in fact save Earth from extinction in the comic A Merc With a Mouth and Secret Invasion. Wade Wilson displays a postive and slightly cunning, and narcissist role on readers of comics he keeps them intrigued and ready for more. Deadpool will keep making the right wages.
