New Cross Gate: turn left and cross the road at the pedestrian lights. Deptford Town Hall Building is just to the left of you; for the Main Building, turn left and follow New Cross Road, past Laurie Grove onto Lewisham Way, and past the Rutherford Information Services Building, and Dixon Road. The Main Building is on the right immediately after this. The map will help you to find your way. Unless otherwise advised, please report to College Reception inside the front door of the Main Building [the large red brick building] where staff will direct you.

Goldsmiths College is in New Cross, South East London, five miles from central London. It is: 5 minutes walk from both New Cross and New Cross Gate Stations, in Travelcard Zone 2, on the main rail network and the East London Underground Line; on a number of major bus routes; at the junction of the A2 and the A20, on Lewisham Way, on the New Cross one-way system.

From Central and West London: travel to New Cross or New Cross Gate from London Bridge Station; the journey usually takes about 5-10 minutes. To get to London Bridge, travel by underground, or catch a train from Charing Cross, Waterloo East, Blackfriars, or Cannon Street; many trains run directly to New Cross or New Cross Gate, so check at the station. From South East London and Kent: there are direct services to New Cross station from Orpington, Sidcup, Hayes, Dartford and Sevenoaks. Change at Lewisham from other lines. From South London, Surrey and Sussex: New Cross Gate station has direct services from Caterham, Crystal Palace, Epsom and Tattenham Corner. Change at East or West Croydon or Norwood Junction from other lines.

By London Underground (tube)

New Cross and New Cross Gate Stations are both at the southern end of the East London Line. This can be reached from anywhere on the underground system, as follows (see the tube connections map at your local station): changing at Whitechapel Station, on the District or Hammersmith and City lines; changing at Shadwell Station, on the Docklands Light Railway; changing at Canada Water Station, on the Jubilee Line.

From the nearest stations: New Cross station: turn right out of the station, and right again into New Cross Road. For the Main Building, cross New Cross Road at the pedestrian crossing into Amersham Road, keeping on the right hand side. Follow the road round to the right into Parkfield Road. The Main Building is straight ahead, at the junction of Parkfield Road and Lewisham Way. For Deptford Town Hall Building, keep straight ahead on New Cross Road. Deptford Town Hall Building is on the left hand side after about five minutes walk.

MAJOR ENGINEERING WORKS Please note: major works are planned for the East London Line as part of its extension. Shoreditch station will close on 9 June 2006 and there will be a bus replacement service between Whitechapel and Shoreditch until the full line closes in December 2007. For further information please contact Transport for London or visit their website.

From Gatwick Airport (LGW): train from the station in the airport to East Croydon station. Change there and take the first train to New Cross Gate. The journey time is about one hour. JOURNEY TIMES you should allow approximately 1 hour 30 minutes from West London, 25 minutes from Charing Cross or Cannon Street. By bicycle
There are several very quiet cycle routes close to Goldsmiths providing routes to and from Lewisham, the Thames Cycle Route and to other areas of London. Many of these routes run through Fordham Park just opposite the College. The Thames Cycle Route is a long distance cycle route created by Sustrans running from London to Dover. You can get free information on recommended cycle routes in London Cycle Guides 10 and 15, obtainable from bike shops, from the London Cycling Campaigns website at www.lcc.org.uk or by calling TFL Travel Information Line on 020 7222 1234. There are cycle racks around the College, adjacent to the Main Building, the Education Building, and beside the Whitehead Building. Please use these designated places. Cycles locked to sign, railings or benches may be removed. You are advised to use a strong lock, to lock both wheels and remove fixings such as lights and pumps.

By Docklands Light Railway

You may find it convenient to travel by Docklands Light Railway (DLR) to either Deptford Bridge Station, 15 minutes walk from the College or Lewisham Station.

By bus
From Central London, South East London or Kent: Goldsmiths is on the following bus routes to and from central London, or South East London or Kent: 21, 36, 136, 171, 172, 177, 225, 321, 343, 436, 453. Buses run every 15 minutes throughout the day from Victoria, Waterloo and London Bridge stations to New Cross and Lewisham, and the journey time is about 45 minutes from central London.

By car
Goldsmiths is situated on Lewisham Way, on the New Cross one-way system, at the junction of the A2 and A20. Lewisham Way is an extremely busy Red Route (no parking or waiting at any time); it is impossible to stop immediately on the main road, and vehicles may pull in to the front of the Main Building to let passengers out. From Central London: Take the A2 towards Dover, via the Old Kent Road; at the end of the Old Kent Road (on the New Cross Gate one-way system) turn into New Cross Road. Keep in the right hand lane and, shortly after Sainsburys, take the A20 fork to Lewisham. Turn right at the traffic lights into Lewisham Way the College is on the left downhill. From Kent, Surrey, Sussex, or from the north if using Blackwall Tunnel or Dartford River Crossing (southbound): Follow the A2 or A20 towards London (using M25 or South Circular Road to join the nearest of these). On the A20, after passing through Lewisham, the Colleges Main (red brick) Building is clearly visible on the left after about one mile. On the A2, follow the left turn after New Cross Station, turn right at the traffic lights into Lewisham Way the College is on the left downhill.

By air
Public transport connections from Heathrow, Gatwick and City Airport are as follows. Taxis from Heathrow and Gatwick cost in the region of 50-60, and you are advised to use public transport. From Heathrow Airport (LHR): Piccadilly Underground Line to central London, change at Green Park onto the Jubilee Line to Canada Water, then the East London Line to New Cross or New Cross Gate. From Stansted Airport (STN): train to Liverpool Street Station, then by Hammersmith and City Underground Line to Whitechapel. Change onto East London Underground Line to New Cross or New Cross Gate stations. From City Airport (LCY): this airport is five miles from Goldsmiths. Take the shuttle bus to Canning Town. Catch a Jubilee Line tube westbound to Canada Water, then the East London Line to New Cross or New Cross Gate. From Luton Airport (LTN): shuttle buses connect the airport to Luton station, from where you catch the Thameslink train to London Bridge, then travel to New Cross or New Cross Gate stations.
