and the Christian (Authority)

An Appeal to All Christians

Act 1:4-13 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence. When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven. Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day's journey. And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James. The word Power has more than one meaning: Physical strength; Possession of controlling influence; God, Political leader (president, King, etc.) A powerful nation or person; Energy. Power sources army, government, leaders who have power delegated to them. Energy power sources are varied, wind, magnetism, lightning, atomic radiation, etc. Nevertheless, all power ultimately comes from God. In a civilized world we must obey those in authority over us to maintain peace. First to God and then to man. When we exercise power we should understand what that power is before we use it. For power can be used for good or evil. Man has for centuries harnessed the power of the universe for good and evil. DaVinci, Einstein, Tesla, etc. A short distance from our local church is the Big Bend Power Generating Station supplying the surrounding area with power which we call electric power. You flip a switch and turn lights and other equipment on, probably not understanding what is happening. We just enjoy the convenience. But science has come to understand many things about that power in order to harness it. Everything in the universe consists of power starting with God Himself. When God said let there be light! power was activated. Now, the essence of all that power is manifested in magnetic waves.

Microwave ovens, Radio(wave), TV(wave) transmissions, Atomic radiation, and so on. Man has been able to use these mostly for good but sometimes for evil. Scientists should be the first ones to realize that God is in all of this, in fact He is all of this because nothing exists without God. These magnetic waves are radiating energy constantly throughout the universe through a large spectrum of frequencies. All of them are power: cellphone calls, computer operating, auto ignition, lights to light up the dark night, etc. That power has been available to man since the beginning of creation. Recent advances have utilized the power in many ways in medicine, education, communications and many other ways, yet man has not realized where that ultimate power comes from. Now, the eye-opener. Each one of us is a source of power. We all have our own magnetic field about our body. Have you ever walked past a TV with rabbit ears antenna and noticed a change in reception, especially with a weak signal? Your magnetic field is interacting with the TV waves being sent from the main TV transmission broadcast antenna. When people shake hands or hug one another it is more than just a formality, as we are transmitting from our magnetic field to each other. This transfer is rather weak. There is a transmitting of energy one to the other. Why does it say Lay hands on the sick and they shall recover? Act_5:15 Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them. That shadow may just have been an awesome magnetic field since the power working through Peter at that time must have been very great. In the medical field Russian scientists have taken things further by developing a small low-frequency wave generating and transmitting device called Scenar (pronounced SKENAR) to even give therapeutic help for some physical problems which Chiropractors around the world are using in their treatments. Yes, good energy can be passed from one person to another. WHO TOUCHED ME said Jesus, I felt virtue (power) come out of me. The church, the called out ones, have been given to do mighty things, so we try to organize it. Shouldnt we rather say What do we need to do or not do to have your power flow out of us like rivers (not just a trickle) of living water? We (all believers) are the actual powerhouse. The one thing that prevents the power from flowing in the natural or the spiritual is resistance. What resistance(s) do we each have in ourselves to that power flowing freely.

Remember, all resistance comes from self and not from God since you are the intermediary. Does it not seem obvious to you that SELF is the very resistance that hinders the Flow? Mat 10:38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me. Mat_16:24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. The cross is the crucifixion of self, I, ego, my, me Jesus Christ, Himself, as a man had to die to Self, He was a willing obedient slave to the Father as He walked this Earth. He then said to follow Him. Are we to be any different. The life of Jesus was a life of crucifixion. He presented His body as a living sacrifice and a physical sacrifice. Rom 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. (Reasonable service refers to the service of the priests in the Temple, seeking God daily. ) Meditate on the WORD daily, hourly almost without ceasing. D. L. Moody once said, The world has yet to see what God can do with a man fully consecrated to him. By Gods help, I aim to be that man. Will another seminar change things? NO. Will another book change things? NO. Only the power of God flowing out through believers will change things. How can we get back to the Basics? Stop trying to do for God and seek that death to self so urgently needed to bring forth the Kingdom in all its glory. Remember when they were in the Upper Room and the Holy Spirit was poured out? The people there knew very little, they had no printing presses, no bibles in several languages, no tracts, no Television or Radio or telephones. They just spoke and God confirmed their words with power. We must become again as little children and truly love one another unreservedly, die to self and seek God with all our heart, soul and strength. We think that because the power is made available we can just use it. I will lay hands on the sick, I will preach the Word, so we go about our self-centered life thinking we are pleasing God. We pray that God will pour out His Spirit but He must meet our conditions because we have all these commitments. If God wants to start an outpouring of His Spirit in that little Church down the road, so be it, as long as He receives the glory. It is His power and He is only seeking a channel to flow through. One of the biggest faults in the church (I mean church bodies in general) is SPIRITUAL PRIDE.

Pride comes before a fall.

Statements like, I know because I studied hard to learn so dont tell me I dont understand. Bring a thousand learned professors of religion together and you will wind up with maybe a thousand different answers to a question. Jesus prayed in John 17:18-23 As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world. And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth. Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me. If we were truly walking the walk (1 John 2:6 -- He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.) we would have perfect love and unity among the brethren. Francis of Assisi said, Let there be peace on Earth and let it begin with me. Let every breath I take be in perfect harmony. Spiritual pride prevents this from coming to pass. Cant we get away from criticizing one another? Let us get the beam of pride out of our own eye first. Then we can truly become one. Then the world will truly see that Jesus is sent from the Father. Yes, Jesus is the only way to the Father but are we walking that way before the world? Do we truly want to see the power of God manifest today for His purpose or for our entertainment? Are we wiling to die so completely to our own selves to allow that to happen or do we want to hold on to our old traditions and non-essential beliefs so we can proudly wear our badges of religious humility and superiority? We have been given the power so how are we going to use it?
