Dear Friends,

I arrived back in Thailand on Jan^ 22 after brief stops in Tokyo and Hongkong,

Instead of going up-country as planned, I waited in Bangkok for the Traveling College from Puget Sound College of the Bible, They had been in Chiengmai for a few days and I assisted them during their 2 day stay in Bangkok before they left for Burma, Then I had a couple of days with Imogene Williams, the Filbecks, and the de los Santos in

Chiengmaio Callaw^s gave me a warm welcome to Ghiengkam, but they had to leave the next day for Chiengmai''\di,ere Lois had surgery^ They returned on March 12th in time
for Kamtan's weddingo

It didn't take long for people to know that I was back, so when the clinic open-

ed on Febji. 1, there were lots of patients to welcome meo

doing,

There hasn't been a let up

"since,'so I still haven't had time to get unpacked or write letters.

However, I know

many of you have been praying and I want to share with you what the Lord has been
I was glad to get back in time to have some Thursday night Bible classes with

the Meo and Yao boys before school closed the last of February, I asked Tong, one of the Meo boys, what he would like to study, and he said he wanted to know what happened in the life of a person after he became a Christiana So the first week we studied the
old life and the new life, and the next week had a lesson on the power to live the new

life in Christy One of the Yao boys who became a Christian a year ago told how he had come to kow Christ, the change that had come into his life, and how God has answered

his prayers0

I felt his testimony was very meaningful to the other boys and several of

them are doing some serious thinkingo I have just heard that Tong will not be coming back to school next year---perhaps because his father is afraid he will become a Chris
tian or else because he needs his help farming, I want to go see his father and see if some arrangements can be made so he can continue studying. Pray!

Two days after arriving back in Ghiengkam, I was called on a baby case at Sope Waan, While waiting to deliver the baby, I talked to the young couple about the Lord and found that they wanted to become Christianso More teaching was needed for them and ten others who also expressed an interest, but who would go teach them# It would have to be at night or on a Sunday, Also, what about the witness in clinic. We were

so busy caring for patients there seemed little time to teach,

On two Wednesday afternoons, we went out to the leprosy village for the weekly

went out and taught and then visited with those who wanted to become Christians, On

March 10 there were 12 baptized into Christ, This included the young couple whose baby I deliveredo The day before See had brought the baby for medicineit had
pneumonia and was more dead than aliveo The father was also sick with severe abdom

inal pain. We prayed for both the baby and the sick father at home and sent medicineo The next day the father was well and the baby some better, but I didn't think the mother would be baptized since the baby was still very illo The grandmother took

the baby and the young couple joyfully went down into the water for baptismo

But at that time his mother became seriously ill and the family called him The spirit doctor who was treating his mother came up with an ultimatum--he

could choose whether he wanted his mother to live or if he wanted to become a Chris

all thought of becoming a Christiano But the Lord continued to work in his heart

and after several months he moved back to the village of Sope Waan, He realized the devil was trying to keep him in bondage. Finally faith conquered and trusting in the power of Christ for deliverance he accepted the Lord and was baptizedo He is

He has been praying that if it is a fellow villager who stole the animals that he won't find out who it was or he would be greatly tempted to retaliate. of many.

The family camp held the last week of April enriched and deepened the spiritual life Attendance was good with over 500 present during the middle of the weekc In

order to witness to the community during the camp we arranged to show a movie, "The Prodical Son"filmed in Thailand with appropriate setting. On Wednesday morning everyone went to the open air market about 6:30 am to give tracts and invite people to see the film
that night in front of the district office. In the afternoon a sound truck went to

the nearby villages advertising the film too. The young people really worked to get the stage set up and everything in order. There were a couple of singing froups with guitars
who furnished the music and a Christian woman from N, Eo Thailand and a converted actor

gave their testimonies before the film was shown. There were frQm-_2QQ0-3QpQ people present/^
when the program officially began at 8:00pm, (Before that, recorded music was used while the crowd gathered.) The crowd gradually dwindled , especially when one or two of those on the program got long winded, but many came back to hear the converted actor and see
the filmo

Seeing how well this was received we have contacted a Thai Christian singing group

to come in October or early November to sing and show films in the market for 1 or 2 nights and in the country villages where we have been witnessing* We'd like to have about 7
days of this PRAY that if it is the Lord's will this will be possible.
and follow up those who express an interest in the gospel.

In preparation

for this the monthly Sunday rally will be used to train local Christians to councel with

School began in mid-May and this year there were 5 children from the leprosy village of Sope Waan who started the 5th grade. (Compulsary education ceases at the 4th grade when a certificate is given.) I have wanted the brighter children to go on to school,

but the parents were not willing before,^ However, Wilth the opening of a new school
nearer their village, they have decided to let the children go. There are*^ 11 Meo boys in my dormitory and the Callaways have 10 Yao boys and 2 Yao and 1 Thai girl in their dormitories. On Tuesday nights Kamtan has a Bible class for all the kids. On Thursday night Mr, Callaway or I teacho (I have been teaching as Mrc Callaway is attending a seminar in Bangkok on how to write simple Home Study Courses.) There are only 2
Christians among all the students^ PRAY the Lord will work in their hearts and they :V..
will come to know Him as their Savior-

Oratia, a Christian teenager and sister of Somjai, has come to help on the clinic 3 or 4 days a week^ But I still need someone who knows English to dispense medicine. Also need a doctor and/or nurse and Thai evangelist. There is a young fellow who may

come to work for us as evangelists Also Drv Pink (the Thai intern who helped in the clinic in Feb.) wants to take her residency in the Chiengkam government hospital as she believes:'Chiengkam is the place the Lord would have her work. She has already made application for thiso She wouldn't be able to help here in the clinic but would be a real witness for the Lord at the hospital So continue to PRAY for all these needs,
Sunday I was encouraged after a lesson on the power of God available for our lives, when two of the Christians of Kapok village' asked for special prayerone to gain_J:he victory over smoking and the other for his wife to gain the victory over a sharp tongue. As we talked further the first man also confessed that he has occasionally made liquor to sell in order to buy rice for his family and 6f course he sometimes drinks it,' He
realized that this was not consistent with Christian life, so he asked special prayer

for victory in thisv Then this afternoon two women at the leprosy village also asked special prayer for victory in their lives. Praise the Lord! The Holy Spirit is working convicting of Sin^ So keep PRAYING and lives will continue to be changed^
