Second Annual Northcoast Bluegrass by the Bay Festival

Sandusky/Bayshore KOA Campground located at 2311 Cleveland Road East in Sandusky will host the Second Annual Northcoast Bluegrass by the Bay Festival on Friday, August 23 and Saturday, August 24, 2013. This year, proceeds from the festival will go to Cancer Services of Erie County. We are so excited to be holding the festival again this year, said Jeff Hoffman of Sandusky/ Bayshore KOA. Giving back to the community is a way for us to honor our brother, Doug, who we lost to cancer. We, the Hoffman family, have always loved bluegrass music and holding this festival has been something we have wanted to do for a very long time. With the service that Cancer Service of Erie County performs it is a natural fit for us. Cancer Services of Erie County is a local organization that provides assistance to cancer patients and their families. This assistance goes from providing equipment, wigs, and supplements to rides to the doctors office which are just some of what they do. The support of the Hoffman family with this event is such boost for us at Cancer Services. said Peg Miller, Executive Director of Cancer Services. We thank them for all their help.

The 3rd annual Huron River Art Fest is planned for Saturday, Oct. 12 on the grounds around the Huron Boat Basin. The event will be a part of the citys popular Pumpkin Fest this year. Several dozen award-winning artisans from around Ohio will be offering their wares at the Art Fest, planned from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. These include hand-thrown pottery, fused glass jewelry, watercolor paintings, beach glass and lucky stone jewelry and hand-made crystal beads. The Pumpkin Fest, sponsored by Huron Parks & Recreation, will also be held at the Boat Basin during the same hours on Oct. 12. The event features family entertainment, childrens games, pumpkin decorating, a petting zoo, pony rides, face painting and rock wall climbing. STOPPING FOR SCHOOL BUSES

Around the time school starts, I always like to do an article about what motorists should do in regards to stopping for a school bus. Ohio Revised Code 4511.75 and Huron City Ordinance 331.38 apply to stopping for school buses. A driver of a vehicle who either meets or overtakes from either direction, any school bus stopped for purposes of receiving or discharging any school child, must stop at least ten (10) feet from the front or rear of the school bus as the case may be. The driver may not proceed until the school bus resumes motion, or until the school bus driver signals the driver to proceed. Many drivers believe they can proceed when the bus flashing lights or stop sign are no longer activated. This is not correct. What matters under the law is that the bus itself resumes motion after a stop or the bus driver signals the motorist. A school bus driver is not supposed to start the bus in motion until the student reaches a place of safety on the childs or persons residence side of the road. One exception to this law occurs for school buses stopped on a highway divided into four (4) or more traffic lanes. A driver of a vehicle does not have to stop for a school bus approaching from the opposite direction. However, drivers who will overtake the school bus driving in the same direction must stop. School bus drivers operating on divided highways or highways of four (4) or more traffic lanes are supposed to receive and discharge students on the side of the roadway where their residence is located. This law applies not only to students but also, persons attending programs offered by community boards of mental health, and county boards of mental retardation and developmental disabilities, or a child attending a program offered by a head start agency. A driver, who violates this section, can be charged with an unclassified misdemeanor. This means that a degree of misdemeanor (such as first, second, third, etc.) was not assigned to this offense by the Ohio Legislature. The Legislature has established that a fine for this violation may not exceed Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00). A violation of this law is not waiverable, which means an offender must appear in Court rather that just pay a fine. A judge does have the ability to impose a license suspension, which can be up to one (1) year in length. I hope this gives you a better understanding of the traffic laws regarding stopping for a school bus. These laws are designed to allow children to safely board and exit a school bus. Please drive carefully. Articles appearing in this column are intended to provide broad, general information about the law. Before applying this information to a specific legal problem, readers are urged to seek advice from an attorney. of each month at 7:00 p.m. The duties of the Board include setting the annual budget of the library, establishing library policy, approving Library staff appointments and benefits, advocating the library to the community, planning for the future of the library, and securing funds needed to operate the library. EHOVE Students Say Yes to Success

The Ohio Department of Educations Office of CareerTechnical Education selected 15 awardees from across the State of Ohio one for each career field from among 140 nominations for Class of 2013 success stories. Honorees received a certificate, opportunity for further recognition during the 2013 Ohio State Fair and the distinction of being featured in various state-level messaging/presentations over the next year. EHOVE Career Center led the way with four winners, more than any other school in Ohio. To view the winners full stories, go to ohiocareertech.wordpress.com, then search the keyword EHOVE. Below is a snapshot of the winners achievements: Law & Public Safety EHOVE EMT/Firefighter student Andra Johns (Edison HS) considers her career tech training at EHOVE the foundation for her future career as a fire marshal or arson investigator. Thanks to her work-based learning experiences with a local EMS experience, Johns has already been experienced firsthand what it takes to be in the career field, even performing CPR on a shooting victim on scene. Very involved with sports and clubs at Edison HS, she also has been active at EHOVE in SkillsUSA, National Technical Honor Society and volunteerism with local organizations. Johns has enlisted in the U.S. Navy and also plans to complete her public safety training in EMS and Firefighter courses at EHOVE Adult Career Center. Information Technology EHOVE Visual Media Tech student Shannon Ebert (Perkins HS) has truly made the most of the education opportunities available to todays students. While at EHOVE, Ebert flourished in her career tech program and earned a record 62 free college credits, an equivalent of two years of college, as well as several industry certifications in software applications for video editing, graphic design and administrative office use. Very active with sports and clubs at Perkins HS, she also was involved at EHOVE with Business Professionals of America, Student Council, National Technical Honor Society, volunteerism with local organizations, and even documenting her senior year through video blogs at www. EHOVEconnection.com. Recognized through a long list of awards for her academic and leadership achievements, she also has earned a volleyball scholarship so she may attend the University of Findlay, likely completing her Masters degree in marketing while other students her age are completing their Bachelors degrees.
