Dragon News News for you to Know about Kindergarten

Highlights!
New Skills include: Language Arts:
-- counting words in sentences. This is a skill that goes with print concepts and increasing your childs awareness of text in books as they read. When you are reading books to your child at home , have them count the words in a short sentence. (3 to 5 words) Have your child tell you how many words there are. Often the students want to count the letters in every word in the sentence. We will continue to practice at school as well.

More for this week:

Homework Calendars have started! Reading Homework has also now started! Your child is now bringing home a reader in the back of their folder. Be sure you are reading it with your child atleast 3 or more times per week. Please keep the reader in your childs back folder pocket all week because we will be using these books in class too. Work on the highlighted skills on the Reading Log sheet. Color in one book for each time your child reads the book with an adult!!

Students have been asked each night to go home and learn the number poem for the next day! If we did the number 3 in class then students were asked to go home and learn the poem for 4. Some students were so excited to come and tell me the number poem for the day!! They got extra clip ups!! The number poems were attached to last weeks newsletter so be sure you have those poems in a safe place or on the refrigerator so you can help your child earn a clip up! These poems will help your child learn to write the numbers correctly!
