Parsons 1 Reckless Parsons Mrs.

Emerick Bell 4 September 8, 2013 The Origin of Language Where did language come from? Was it from a God in the heavens, did the cave men or the apes before them invent it or did come about with no real explanation? Bernard Campbell replies in Humankind Emerging (Allyn & Bacon, 2005), "We simply do not know, and never will, how or when language began." But he doesnt say that language never began. In the Holy Bible, Genesis 1 states, And God said, Let there be light, and there was light. It not only records the beginning of life on earth but that language comes from God Himself.

If God spoke all matter and life into existence then that proves that language started with God and not with us. God gave it as a gift to us to communicate with each other. As we see in the Tower of Babel men used language to create a name for themselves, instead of obey God. After God confused them through language they couldnt accomplish anything together. This story shows how instrumental language is in everything we do together. Also it explains how so many different languages came about. The Ethnologue, listed the total number of languages as 6809(Origin of Language and Communication by Brad Harrub, Bert Thompson and Dave Miller). Evolution has no explanation of how this many languages were made or invented.

Just because it is written in the Bible doesnt mean its true, right? The Bible is just

Parsons 2 a book about how-to, right? Wrong, the Bible is a historically proven book and is a reliable source for many scholars. Much of the Bible, in particular the historical books of the Old Testament, are as accurate historical documents as any that we have from antiquity (Smithsonians Department of Anthropology). To say that the Bible is just a religious book is very nave.

Now to look at things from an evolutionist perspective and say that apes or cave man created language is absurd. It is easy to assert that it all started with an ape that learned to speak. But it is much more difficult to describe how this took place, especially in light of our failure to teach apes to speak today(Origin of Language and Communication by Brad Harrub, Bert Thompson and Dave Miller). Also Adam spoke with great vocabulary and intelligence and he was only a few hours old. This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of man (Genesis 2:23). Adam could not simply learn language in a few hours. This is another incident that states language is a gift from God.

Evolutionist claim that our brains millions of years ago was bigger and more intelligent. But, the human brain is not simply larger. The connections are vastly different as well. As Deacon admitted: Looking more closely, we will discover that a radical re-engineering of the whole brain has taken place, and on a scale that is unprecedented (Origin of Language and Communication by Brad Harrub, Bert Thompson and Dave Miller). Evolutionist Terrence William Deacon admitted that it really was couldnt happen. Thus this theory is also rubbish.

Finally, Evolution has to now say that they do not have any real explanation for

Parsons 3 language. They say maybe our brains were bigger, even though an actual evolutionist disproved that, or that an ape simply picked it up and started speaking when to this day we cannot teach apes how to speak. Yet they continually ignore the option of intelligent design and that language is a gift from God. The Smithsonian and other great scholars and schools believe the Bible to be a true book.

Evolution has tried and failed at showing us the origin of language. It has no description for how it happened. If you are an evolutionist it requires faith to believe your stance. For Christians we need faith too. The only difference is one is proven wrong and the other is proven right.

Language is a gift from God to us to bring glory to Him. It wasnt something we ourselves could have invented or evolved. Even though evolution cannot explain any of these things or even how thousands of languages were made, the Bible does.
