LESSON PLAN

Year: Date: Pre-Primary 1st November 2012 Curriculum Area: Time Period: Physical Education 20 Minutes

Specific Lesson Learning Goals: Balance on one foot for at least 5 seconds (either foot) Balance on one foot and one hand for at least 5 seconds (either side) Balance on two feet and two hands with stomach facing the sky for at least 5 seconds Balance on two feet and two hands with stomach facing the ground for at least 5 seconds

Students Prior Knowledge: Baxter has undergone the Stay-In-Step Screening Test. Baxter has previously been asked to perform balance activities and he is aware of what he should do when he is asked to balance. After speaking with Baxters teacher it is clear that while he follows an activity obstacle course at least twice a week with other students, he has not had specific balance teaching. Preparation: Environment Grassy area with plenty of space A straight line

Equipment Bean bag Stop watch

Reminders: Ensure there are no hazards in the work area Ensure Baxter has proper shoes on and a hat to wear Ensure that all of the equipment is set up in the work area before beginning the lesson Thank Baxter for working with me and taking part in the activities I planned

Post Lesson Activities: If the lesson finishes early, move to the outdoor reading mat and read a book of Baxters choice

LESSON PLAN
Time: Lesson Progression Remind Baxter of the testing and activities we did together last week Explain to Baxter that we will be doing fun activities today that will help him balance Warm Up Play Mr Men Involving running, hopping, slow body movements, wriggling, crawling

Play Simon Says Involving, jumping, touching nose and knee, crouching, twirling

Main Activities Ask Baxter to perform each of these tasks Walking along a straight line toe to heel with arms spread eagle Standing upright with a bean bag on head Walking along a straight line with a bean bag on head toe to heel with arms spread eagle Balance with feet and hands on the ground facing any direction Balance on preferred foot with a bean bag on head Balance on other foot with a bean bag on head Balance on tip toes reaching for the sky

In between tasks do a silly Mr Man dance Allow Baxter to choose simple poses on different body part to balance

Cool Down Shake out muscles Go through the Assessment checklist take photographs Stretch out muscles close eyes and focus on breathing Informal Assessment of Student Outcomes

Assessment Checklist I will ask Baxter to do each of the assessment points on the checklist and time him in doing so I will mark against the checklist the times Baxter was able to perform each task for I will take photographs of Baxter performing each of the assessment tasks
