3. How to upgrade/flashing the boards firmware

Your flasher should already have been flashed with firmware PICFLASH v3b plus2, and its ready to be used with NandPro, so actually you can just skip the rest of this document. If you need to update the firmware on the chip, then go ahead. Only update the firmware while you really need to do so, say compatibility improvement, new features that you need etc. If after read this guide you still have questions, you can contact us for help. 1. Put the board into upgrade/bootloader mode. This is done by putting the jumper onto s1 like in the photo below, (short the 2-pin header near the red power LED).

2. Now connect your board to PCs USB port * If this is the first time you do the firmware flashing, you may need to install the flashing mode driver for the device.

If you have installed the driver before, you can skip this Step 2 and go to Step 3. How to install the device driver for the board: The system might find a new Unknow device but cant find the drive for it (if you use Windows Vista/7, it may provide you a driver solution for download, you can ignore that). Download the Flash Tool and device drive package here:

File: firmware_PICFLASH_v3b_plus2.rar

Extract it to a folder. Open Device Manager, there you should have a new Unknow Device like below.

Right click on the Unknow device, and select upgrade driver, point to the device driver folder you just extracted and confirm. After the installation, you should have a new Microchip Custom USB Device, if so, you are ready to flash the firmware.

3. Flash the firmware Open the PDFSUSB FLash Tool

3.1 First select the device you have. If you dont have anything to select here, you might have done something wrong, recheck step 1 and step 2.

3.2 Then click Load Hex Files button, and select the firmware you want to flash, normally they come with .hex as file extension. Here we are going to flash the PICFLASH.hex (v3b plus2). (Not the PicXboot.hex, thats the bootloader already on the chip.) 3.3 Last, click Program Device button and wait for complete. 3.4 Put the jumper back to where it is and have fun. (otherwise its still in upgrade mode and wont run the nandpro firmware you flashed.)

Now you can test with Nandpro. Youll need to install the Nandpro driver correctly. Download Nandpro 2.0d and driver here
