    Applytodayandyoucouldbea 12weeksperyear,for3years Background The St.FrancisReferralHospital(SFRH)islocatedinIfakara,SouthernTanzaniaandhasacapacityof400bedsandattracts approximately 700,000referralpatientsperyearfromKilomberoandotherneighbouringdistricts.Throughthesupportof volunteersthereisrealpotentialtostrengthenIfakaraasacentreofexcellenceinhealthcare,trainingandresearch.

    Inordertoallowthehospitaltofulfillitsroleasaregionalreferralandteachinghospital,qualityofservicesneedtobe improvedthroughbetterinfrastructure,strengtheningofthefinancialandhumanresourcemanagementandbyensuring availabilityofqualifiedstaff,equipmentanddrugs.SwissDevelopmentCooperationandVSOaresupportingtheSFRHto improveitsqualityofhealthcareservicesinasustainablewaybyofferingaccessibleandaffordablequalityservicestothe populationandprovidingexcellenttrainingandresearchopportunitiestothelocalpartnerinstitutions. Whatdoestheroleinvolve? Supportthehospitaltoestablishapathologyunitwithinthelaboratorydepartment Developstandardoperationprocedures(SOPs)forqualityassurance;adviseontherequiredequipmentand runningoftheunit FacilitatecollaborationbetweenSt.FrancisReferralHospital(SFRH)labandconsultanthospitalswithpathology servicesfordiagnosticsupportandcapacitybuilding. Skills,qualificationsandexperiencerequired Youllbeaqualifiedpathologistwithadegreeinarelatedfield,withadegreeinmedicinebeingadvantageous.Youllhave practicedfor5yearsormore.Youllhavetheabilityandexperiencetoteach;trainandmentorstaffanddevelopspecific goalsandplansfortrainees.ItisdesirablebutnotessentialtohaveworkedinAfrica.Youwillneedtobeavailableforthe periodofproject,3yearsoraminimumof2yearswiththeflexibilityandavailabilitytotravelandcometotrainfor12 weeksinayear,(e.g.2weeksevery2months).Wearelookingforsomeonewhoisateamworkerwithgoodsocialand interpersonalskills,plusnetworkingabilities.
