1 SCOPE
The program computes the properties of bi-symmetrical elementary welded or rolled steel sections.
Properties include
area,
elastic bending inertia and moduli,
plastic moduli,
torsional and warping inertia.
Sections may either be described in terms of element sizes and thickness (flange, web) or specified as hot-rolled
section. This program contains a database of over 1200 sections complying with the following standards
European (IPE-A, IPE, IPE-O, IPN, HEA, HEB, HEM, HEAA, HE, HL, HD, HP),
British (UB, UC, RSJ, UBP)
American (WF, S, M, HP) including a few specific Canadian wide-flange sections,
Japanese (WJs),
Australian (UB, UC, TFB, UBP),
Indian (ISWB, ISMB, ISLB, ISHB, ISJB, ISMC, ISLC, ISJC),
Southern African,
Russian (?, ? , ? , ? ? a n d ? ? shapes).
This routine can be used on its own, but is more generally called as a subroutine for member code check programs
in accordance with international Rules and Regulations (AISC, API, NORSOK, BS, CM66, etc..)
KEYWORDS

A box consisting of one central and two side webs is defined by
the width b and thickness e of its flanges,
its overall height H and the thickness a of the central web,
the thickness s of the side webs and the distance d between their mid-thickness
the root radii r and r at the connection flange to central web.

2.5.1.2.4 IPNs
IPN sections with sloping flanges are defined in accordance with DIN 1025-1 and NF-A-45-209 Specifications.
They are characterized by
a flange slope equal to 14%,
a root radius (r1 on Figure 2-11 equal to the web thickness).
The average thickness e is measured at the middle of the half-flange (at the distance b/4 from the free edge).

2.5.3.3 M Shapes
The letter M designates shapes that cannot be classified as W, HP or S shapes and are only available from a
limited number of producers, or are infrequently rolled.
Since the slope on their inner flange surfaces may vary for each producer, this program assumes that the profile
has parallel flanges with constant thickness equal to the average thickness.
