During starting of the steam turbine or while operating at no-load following loss of load, it is probable that that steam temperature will be high enough to cause excessively high exhaust hood temperatures. To avoid this undesirable condition, spray nozzles are provided in the low-pressure section of the steam turbine. These nozzles are supplied from the discharge of the condensate pump.

The operation of the Exhaust Hood Water Spray system is fully automatic. The Mark VIe control system monitors exhaust hood temperature via 3 temperature transmitters (TE-210A/B/C).
High Temperature Trip - 107C (225F). High Temperature Alarm 93C (200F).
Condensate supply pressure is adjusted by means of WSCV. This pressure is set at 2.76 bar (40 psig) which corresponds to required system flow. This is achieved by adjusting WSCV to obtain 40 psig as read on PI-210E with AOV-WSV fully open.
