UTNRL Director
Dr. Gajanan Bhat gbhat@utk.edu MSE Faculty Home Page After earning his MS and Ph.D. from Georgia Tech, Dr. Bhat accepted a position at Image Carpets, Rome, GA where he was responsible for conversion of recycled PET into fibers for carpets. He then joined the faculty of the University of Tennessee, Textile Science program in August 1990. At UTK, his research covers nonwovens - melt blown, spunbonded and biodegradable, plastics recycling, and high performance fibers. He has also conducted research at Edwards Air Force Base, CA on specialty fibers. Dr. Bhat has published about 125 papers and US Patents have been issued for two inventions resulting from his research. In recognition of his achievements, he was inducted as an Outstanding Young Engineering Alumni by the College of Engineering at Georgia Tech in 1996 and he received the Distinguished Achievement Award from the Fiber Society in 1999. In 2005, he was elected as a Fellow of the Textile Institute. Recent Publications:
