Part 2: Sources for Your Research Paper

Select two sources from your annotated bibliography that you did not use for the Week Three assignment. Summarize and paraphrase the contents of the two sources, with the intention of using them in your rough draft. Include at least one direct quotation from each source, and include in-text citations for all sources to avoid potential plagiarism. Identify how you plant to integrate these sources into your rough draft.

Source 1 Summary, with direct quotation and in-text citation:

In the article, Media Silence Is Deafening About Important Gun News, (2011), it provides examples and statistical information highlighting that crime rates involving handguns have dropped compared to rates from the previous year. Crime rates involving firearms did not increase after the Supreme Court ruled against gun control laws in Chicago and Washington DC. There was decrease in crimes with firearms. Unfortunately, the media does not focus on the crime rate decreases. Lott, John (September 30, 2011). Media Silence Is Deafening About Important Gun News. Retrieved February 1, 2012, from http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2011/09/30/media-silence-is-deafening-aboutimportant-gun-news/#ixzz1lM0w5DmQn.
Paraphrase, with direct quotation and in-text citation:

Direct Quotation: Murder and violent crime rates were supposed to soar after the Supreme Court struck down gun control laws in Chicago and Washington, D.C. Paraphrased: According to Lott (2011), It was assumed that homicides and brutal crimes would increase because the Supreme Court ruled against firearms regulations in Chicago and Washington D.C. Appendix L COM/220 Version 7 How do you plan to integrate these sources into your rough draft?

I plan to integrate this source into my rough draft by using the example of the Supreme Court ruling that struck down gun control laws in Chicago and Washington, D.C. This article highlights the fact that just because the Supreme Court rules against gun control laws crime rates did not soar like expected. They actually decreased in each of these cities.

Source 2 Summary, with direct quotation and in-text citation:

In the article, Media Silence More Ammunition For Gun Advocates (2009,) explains that in 2009 the United States government was strong supporters for gun control. Although our government favors stricter gun control laws, gun laws were on the increase in Virginia and Texas. Support for more stringent gun laws decreased. Schneider, William. More Ammunition For Gun Advocates. National Journal (2009). Gale Opposing Viewpoints In Context. Web. 3 Feb. 2012.
Paraphrase, with direct quotation and in-text citation:

Direct Quotation: Support for stricter gun laws fell from 78 percent in 1990, to 61 percent in 2000, to 51 percent in 2007, Gallup has found. Paraphrased: According to Schneider (2009), since 1990 advocates supporting firearms regulations has gradually decreased over the past seventeen years down to around 50% in 2007. Schneider, William. More Ammunition For Gun Advocates. National Journal (2009). Gale Opposing Viewpoints In Context. Web. 3 Feb. 2012.

How do you plan to integrate these sources into your rough draft?

I plan to integrate this source into my rough draft by explaining that in 2009 our government was Democrat majority favoring stronger gun control laws. I will go on to explain that although our government favored stricter laws, Americans were starting to shift their opinion further supporting my thesis arguing for gun rights.
