SEPTEMBER 8, 2013 TWENTY-THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Prayer For Peace In Syria
God of Compassion, Hear the cries of the people of Syria, Bring healing to those suffering from the violence, Bring comfort to those mourning the dead, Strengthen Syria's neighbors in their care and welcome for refugees, Convert the hearts of those who have taken up arms, And protect those committed to peace. God of Hope, Inspire leaders to choose peace over violence and to seek reconciliation with enemies, Inspire the Church around the world with compassion for the people of Syria, And give us hope for a future of peace built on justice for all. We ask this through Jesus Christ, Prince of Peace and Light of the World, Amen. Petition: For the people of Syria, that God may strengthen the resolve of leaders to end the fighting and choose a future of peace. We pray to the Lord...

KING

In Remembrance of 9/11 Prayer For Peace

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace, Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy; O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Petition: For all people, that God may strengthen the resolve of leaders to choose a future of peace. We pray to the Lord...

Year of Faith 2012-2013 HHS MANDATE PETITION

Page 3

This petition to withdraw the HHS Mandate is being sponsored by the Catholic League. Please click on the link and enter your name and email address. If you wish you can choose not to receive email updates from them by not checking that box. They are collecting signatures for six weeks and will present it to HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius on October 1st http://www.catholicleague.org/petition-to-withdraw-the-hhs-mandate/. There are millions of people of faith in America who object to the Government forcing them to provide insurance coverage that violates their freedom of conscience. The accommodations that have been made for the churches are a shell game. The insurance company pretends to cover the abortion inducing pills and contraception for free and the religious institutions are supposed to pretend that they don't know that they are still paying for it through higher premiums for everyone. And there is no protection for people of faith with businesses to make these decisions for their own employees without the heavy hand of government intruding. PLEASE let your voice be heard. This is such a simple thing to do but if millions of citizens respond it may be a wakeup call. Please share the link with your family and friends. It is the least we can do to protect our First Amendment religious liberty rights.

An Urgent Call to Prayer Sept 7 and Sept 12

Pope Francis calls for a fast for peace. He asks that during these hours on the vigil of Feast of Marys birth, the Church in communion with the whole world is to fast and pray for peace throughout the world. Christ the King invites parishioners of our diocese to join us for this day of Prayer and Fasting, this Thursday. Adoration begins after 8:30 am. mass. The day of prayer ends with a Holy Hour for Peace, at 7pm. Let us together join our Bishops in solidarity and pray for the people who suffer because of injustice, war and conflict. Pray for Peace in Syria, Middle East and the Whole World.

The Defense of Religious Liberty In the Public Square Featuring John Breen, J.D., Professor of Law at Loyola University, Chicago Wednesday, September 11, 7 PM St. John the Apostle Church 330 N Westmore, Villa Park, IL 60181
On August 1, 2013, the mandate from the Department of Health & Human Services, which is a direct attack on religious liberty, has gone into effect. The mandate forces employers to pay for coverage of abortioninducing drugs, sterilization, contraception and related counseling in violation of their religious beliefs and moral convictions. Non- compliance will subject Americans to penalties amounting to millions of dollars. Profess Breens talk will clarify the challenges we face in defending our religious freedom. Professor John Breen graduated from Notre Dame in 1985 with the highest honors and attended Harvard Law School. Following his graduation from Harvard in 1988, Professor Breen clerked for Hon. Boyce F. Martin, Jr., of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. He joined the Loyola faculty in 1996, where he has taught courses including Professional Responsibility, Jurisprudence, and Catholic Social Thought.

Year of Faith: Catechism Corner

In order to preserve the Church in the purity of the faith handed on by the apostles, Christ who is the Truth willed to confer on her a share in his own infallibility. By a supernatural sense of faith the People of God, under the guidance of the Churchs living Magisterium, unfailingly adheres to this faith The mission of the Magisterium is linked to the definitive nature of the covenant established by God with his people in Christ. It is this Magisteriums task to preserve Gods people from deviations and defections and to guarantee them the objective possibility of professing the true faith without error. Thus, the pastoral duty of the Magisterium is aimed at seeing to it that the People of God abides in the truth that liberates. To fulfill this service, Christ endowed the Churchs shepherds with the charism of infallibility in matters of faith and morals. The exercise of this charism takes several forms. (CCC, n. 889-90)

Christ the King Early Learning Academy Update

Our summer always begins with a bang!I mean a White Elephant Sale! Many volunteers separate, price, clean and organize donations for a huge 3 day garage sale in the Academy gym. It never ceases to amaze me how we manage this huge task with success! Thanks to all those who generously help at our White Elephant Sale in June. Michelle Iwinski and Ana Segura led a 4 week Vacation Bible School Camp for 12 students and were very busy! Faith was part of their everyday experience! Mrs. Placey, Mrs. Sinibaldi, Mrs. Hanisch, and Mrs. Waas went to an institute that focused on: transition tips for preschoolers, bullying, and different curriculum activities. Wall-mounted air conditioners were installed in 4 classrooms. They have been a blessing during the warm days! The Parish Playground was ordered over the summer. We spent the month of July collecting paperwork, organizing the school office and making sure that curriculum was shipped for the new school year. We added debit/credit charge capability for tuition and fundraising. We updated lists for letters for donations for the Winter Wonderland in November. By the time August rolled around our classrooms were being set up for the new year and we were preparing for teacher in-service days. We were very fortunate to have Roberta Beckman to help our staff with American Heart Association certification on: Bloodborne Pathogens, First Aid, and CPR/AED. A new AED replaces our old model AED in the Academy hallway. We also have two first aid kits in the building. One kit is in the school office and the other is mounted on the wall near the back door. Our staff also had a lovely, relaxing retreat given by Sherry Rochford that focused on how to incorporate scripture in childrens lessons and the value of quiet time with the Lord. The teachers did a great job as they worked through two days of intense in-service on AHA certification, their retreat, curriculum and schedules. Mid-August the Parish Playground was installed. It is a Little Tikes commercial climber for children ages 2-6 yrs old. You will notice the safe surface around the climber. The maintenance staff worked very hard to ensure proper drainage, installed the border, and filled the area with plastic nuggets. We hope the Parish families will enjoy the playground in the years to come! (Please see more info. on playground in this parish bulletin). As always our new school year is very exciting! The Academy Open House on August 19th was well attended with 28 families! School staff, Fr. Peter, Sherry Rochford, Joe Iapichino, Tony Azzolin, and Javier Aguilera all helped to make it a fun night for all the families! We enjoyed food, visiting the classrooms, and meeting new people! Currently, the Academy has openings for preschool and fullday kindergarten. We have two preschool classrooms and one kindergarten program. Please call 630-627-0640 to schedule a tour or to register. For more information visit our website www.ctklombard.org.

Parish Playground Update

After many years and the generosity of many people, God has blessed us with a beautiful Parish Playground! You will notice that the playground has been placed behind the gym and between the two garages in the lower level of the parking lot. This is a safe location where families can enjoy some fun! Soon, a privacy fence will be added along the back edge. Adult sized picnic tables, garden benches and, with help from Youth Ministry and Academy families, a garden will enhance the area. We are very fortunate to have such a wonderful place for all to share! We wish to thank everyone who so kindly donated time, talent and treasure to make this playground a reality! We will gratefully be accepting donations up until the remaining balance of the playground is used. Any overage will be used for the picnic tables and miscellaneous items still needed for the children and families of our parish. We hope that you enjoy this wonderful space that was directly funded by school families and parishioners. We ask that, for the safety of the children, they be supervised by adults at all times! God bless you, Jill Placey Principal Javier Aguilera Operations Manager

A STEWARDSHIP MOMENT
At the conclusion of todays gospel, we hear Jesus tell a great crowd that anyone of you who does not renounce all his possessions cannot be my disciple. A few of Jesus immediate disciples, such as Peter, John and James, did just that: They responded to Jesus call, renouncing everything to follow him. How do modern disciples of Jesus respond when confronted with this apparently harsh command of Jesus? Surely the renunciation of possessions need not mean literally giving all ones possessions away, does it? Questions we might ponder this week though: Do our possessions keep us from encountering Christ at Mass? Do they distract us from our parish family? Do our possessions interfere with our relationships? Do they make us insensitive to those less fortunate?
