To PACU Staff, Recently there has been attention on the fact that the Nurses are attempting to bring

the National Nurses Union (NNU) into ORMC so that they can negotiate on their behalf. This happened after all of us were given notification that in 4 weeks our incentive pay was going to either cut in half or lost completely. Since these talks have taken place with union representatives, the length of time before the cuts have been extended, and there is rumor that the cuts may not happen at all. A union cannot come in and just change everything. Which means the cuts that we have been told about will happen and there is nothing to be done. With a union in place we will NEVER again be the last to know about these changes. Nursing will have a contract, just like all the upper management and administration does (which is why they dont need a union) and they are not allowed to interfere in our attempts to unionize. Nursing unions negotiate for wages, working environment, and safe nurse to patient ratios The right to unionize is protected by U.S. Constitution protects and the U.S. public policy encourages the right of workers to unionize, First Amendment protection us from government infringement of our rights to the freedom of speech and assembly, Section 7 of Constitution protects your rights to actively unionize, Section 8 dictates that employers are not in infringe upon these rights. This is usually done by discrimination, bulling, or intimidation- which includes taking down of union material and asking how you feel about or if you support a union, this is illegal and reportable behavior to the National Labor Board. These actions are being documented, reported and a case is actively being built for infringement of these rights. My support of NNU has nothing to do with being pro-union so much as it has to do with being Pro-Nursing or actually supporting my fellow staff members. I hate seeing the stress that these unnecessary cuts bring on my co-workers but what angers me if the fear that I see in them of speaking of a union. They will tell me they want it but are scared to make it known. So I will be the first to stand up on this unit with the other staff members from Orlando Health and say that I support these changes. Being a coward has never been who I am, and do not want to start now, and it doesnt matter if anyone stands with me or not, the right choice is sometimes the hardest choice to make. This is no reflection of how I feel about PACU, or my management here, they have no control over these changes they have the unfortunate role of trying to make these changes work for their units and staff, and I understand that. In Unity- Dana
