SALVATION
WASHED CLEAN
How to Know in Your Heart, God Loves You
BY JOYCE MEYER
If youve asked Jesus to come into your heart and youve received His free gift of salvation, you have made the most important decision of your life. You have become a new creature. Old things have passed away and all things are brand-new (see 2 Corinthians 5:17). The fact is, we have been given a brand-new start. Yet it remains a challenge for many Christians to believe their sins have been completely washed away. Have you ever felt that way? If so, I want you to get a revelation through His Word today. Second Corinthians 5:21 says, For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ (NLT). As believers, we dont have to be afraid that God is angry or displeased with us. We can stand before Him with all con dence, knowing that we are loved and accepted by Father God.
Jesus is the best friend you will ever have. He never rejects or condemns you. Nor does He love you more on the days you behave well and less on the days you behave badly. He simply loves you! The Bible teaches us plainly that God wants you to have and enjoy abundant life in Christand getting into agreement with Him will open up a whole new world to you. Being a born-again Christian is a new way of living! If youre a brand-new believer, we want to encourage your faith by sending you Joyces book, A New Way of Living. Call us at (800) 727-9673 today to receive this gift free of charge.

...And the one fruit you absolutely , positively cant live without!
By Joyce Meyer But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! (Galatians 5:22-23 NLT) You may not know it, but when you gave your life to Jesus, all the fruit of the Spirit were planted inside you in seed form. Through the Spirit you can experience joy and peace in every circumstance, no matter how difficult or painful. You may not be a naturally patient person, but you can call on the Spirit within to produce patience. If youre battling unhealthy behaviors, like an addiction or some kind of bad habit, the Holy Spirit can give you the ability to resist the devil and make healthy choices.
The apostle Paul put it this way: When we were controlled by our old nature, sinful desires were at work within us, and the law aroused these evil desires that produced a harvest of sinful deeds, resulting in death. But now we have been released from the law, for we died to it and are no longer captive to its power. Now we can serve God, not in the old way of obeying the letter of the law, but in the new way of living in the Spirit. (Romans 7:5,6 NLT) On your own, it would be impossible. But when you operate in the Spirit, you have a supernatural ability to overcome. What a precious gift! And the more you draw near to God, praying and reflecting on His Word, the more you will experience the fruit of the Spirit in your life. But where should you start?
My Journey to Love For a long time, my heart was a mess. For many years I had been verbally and sexually abused by my father. Then I married a man who ran around on me and eventually ended up in prison. By the time I met Dave at the age of twenty-three, I couldnt remember a time in my life when I was happy. My emotional wounds had made me harsh and short-tempered. I operated purely out of fear. And even though I knew all there was to know about Christian living, I had not learned how to receive the love of God the only thing that can heal someones sick soul. It wasnt until I surrendered control and started receiving Gods love that I finally became free. Now I love myself! And I cant wait to wake up in the morning and be a blessing to someone else. I study love what it is and how God wants us to express itmore than anything else. God loves you so much, He wants you to experience that love in the deepest part of your soul. Pray and ask Him to help you be a person who walks in love. Choose to believe the best about people rather than automatically assuming the worst. Study the passages of Scripture that talk about Gods love for you and really get them into your heart. Then ask God, How can I encourage someone today? Dont wait until you feel like it. Go out and be loving on purpose. You will be amazed at the joy it releases in your soul! Focus on learning to love as Jesus loved, and I promise, all the other fruit of the Spirit will follow.
How do you love your neighbor? First, you must learn to receive
Gods love for yourself. Until then,
Its All About Love, Love and Love All the fruit of the Spirit are held in place by love. Jesus said that loving God and other people is the most important commandment. You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind. He added, A second is equally important: Love your neighbor as yourself(Matthew 22:37, 39). How do you love your neighbor? First, you must learn to receive Gods love for yourself. Until then, you cant truly love anyone else. You may do all the right things, but your motivation will be all wrong. And God isnt nearly as concerned about what we do as He is about the attitudes of our hearts (see 1 Thessalonians 2:4).

Before I rst listened to Joyces teaching on the fruit of the Spirit, I confess I didnt really understand how the fruit worked. I assumed it was all about willpower. If I didnt have peace or patience, it must be because I wasnt trying hard enough. It never occurred to me to ask for Gods help. It might have had to do with how I was raised. Though I grew up in a Christian home, my mother was the poster child for the self-made womanthe oldest of ten who grew up in a West Virginia coalmining town during the Great Depression. She escaped at eighteen, married a mean man, went to work, divorced, remarried and eventually became one of the rst female Chamber of Commerce executives in the country. She was a dynamo who loved to say, Im a survivor. That was her battle cry and badge of honor. It made perfect sense that I would follow her template. Clawing my solitary way up the mountain of lifes challenges, marching under my own steam through exhaustion and disappointmentjust so I could proclaim that I too was a survivor. As if surviving is as good as it can possibly get. But listening to Joyces teaching about her own transformation from humorless survivor to healed and happy child of God gave me a new perspective on survivor syndrome. I understand now that God wants much more for us than mere survival. Its not His will that we just barely make the nish line. He wants us to sail past it with hope, exuberance and energy to burn. Even more important, He wants our acknowledgement that we get nowhere on our own steam. Its all Him, all the time.

REACHING SRI LANKA, THAILAND AND INDIA
BY KACIE CAMPBELL

We all experience fear at some level in our lives. For somelike those living in parts of Asiatheir decision to live for Christ brings them face-to-face with fear, whether its fear for their lives or the everyday struggles of being in the religious minority.
And thats why Joyce traveled halfway around the world to share a message of encouragement about living in faith and facing those fears. In the capital cities of Sri Lanka, Thailand and India, Joyce boldly shared with the people: Face your fears. Dont let fear hold you back from what God has in store for you. DO IT AFRAID!

joycemeyer.org | AUGUST 2 0 1 2 | 15
For more than a year, Hand of Hope, Joyce Meyer Ministries World Missions planned for these conferencesan opportunity not only to give people practical advice on facing their fears, but also to proclaim the saving message of Jesus Christ. Although there has been some growth over the past few years, the number of Christians in these nations is minisculeanywhere from 1 to 8 percent. But thanks to your support, we were able to share the Gospel and rejoice with more than 100,000 people who accepted Christ as their Savior.
Its called the Anti-Conversion Bill, and this law would prevent anyone from converting to another religion more specifically, Christianity. In a nation that is more than 70 percent Buddhist and only 8 percent Christian,1 our desire is to see as many lives reached with the Gospel as possible. For those two nights along the shore of the Indian Ocean, God showed up and changed the hearts of so many. We pray that spark will continue to grow through our already established outreaches in Sri Lanka. Your continued support is sharing the love of Christ through book translation, the Enjoying Everyday Life TV broadcast, feeding programs, leadership training and more.
Bangkok, Thailand
After her time in Sri Lanka, Joyce traveled to Thailand also called The Land of the Free. Over the years it has been the only country in Southeast Asia that has never been colonized by a European power, maintaining their freedom. Yet even though their land is free, many of the people have never experienced the freedom found in Christ alone. In a country of more than 68 million people, nearly 750,000 are Christians.2 Thats just over 1 percent of the entire population. So you can imagine our joy when more than 9,200 of the 16,328 who attended the two meetings accepted Christ as their personal Savior. The messages also helped bring a deeper level of freedom to the lives of many of the Christians. Thirty-year-old Kanawora Wittiongkarat from Bangkok said Joyces messages have broken him free from legalism: I used to think that I had to read my Bible for one hour every day, and I couldnt do anything until I was finished with that. [Thailand is] a very work-oriented society and your value comes from how much you work, but now I have more freedom to worship the Lord and not be limited to how other people do it. The conference was an opportunity to encourage Christians like Kanawora, give people an opportunity to experience salvation, and preach a practical message about facing your fears. While in Thailand, our team was also able to visit our human trafficking shelter, The Gabrielle House, and one of our childrens homes in Chiang Raijust two of the many outreaches in Thailand reaching out with the love of Christ.
Mandala Yafool, who also attended the conference, knows firsthand the importance of outreaches like the childrens home because she grew up in one. After moving to Bangkok to study, she saw that Joyce would be speaking there. She knew she had to attend because of all that Hand of Hope had done for her life. Joyces message about forgetting the past and starting fresh impacted me the most because God doesnt want us to live in the past. He wants to see changes in our lives [so we can] be a blessing to others. Through the support of our friends and partners, Mandala was able to have a fresh start at life when she entered the Hand of Hope orphanage in Chiang Rai years ago. My life changed because I was given an opportunity to do something with my life. So many children dont have a place to go. And I learned about the Lord and studied the Bible every day. It totally gave my life meaning, purpose, direction and happiness, and without that, I wouldnt be where I am now.
Delhi, India
As a result, the program is often seen in the homes of non-Christians. So it wasnt surprising to see Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Buddhists and Christians seated together in the audience. Those who arent Christians often see her as a good teacher, which creates a great opportunity to share the salvation message. In fact, 6,915 people made a decision to be born again during that very meeting. Daniel Pradeep, a conference attendee, wants to see even more people come to the Lord: I really hope and pray there is going to be a revival here. India really needs God. [Joyce] is a powerful speaker. Like she said, if we can get [each] person to [start reaching others with the Gospel], then this land of a billion would really make a difference.
Delhi, India
This was Joyces eighth trip to India. She loves coming back to share the Gospel because even though the majority of the population is anything but Christian, they are very passionate about their religion and beliefs. And that passion could change the world for Christ if more in this nation followed Him. If we could know how to live our everyday lifeto learn what Jesus wants from us I think if we as a nation could know where God wants us to go, we will, shared Akash Roychowdhury, a conference attendee. Thats why we are working to bring the Word through conferences, TV, radio, podcasts, books, our magazine, and more. And many of the Christians who attended the conference in Delhi say they are sharing those teachings with their friends and family. Many even write down the teachings and pass them out to strangers they meet in their everyday life. Utilizing media to share the Gospel has always been a part of Joyce Meyer Ministries, and is an effective way to reach people in many nations around the world. Thats certainly the case in India. Were broadcasting the Enjoying Everyday Life program in 18 languages in this nation alone.
Hand of Hope is the missions arm of Joyce Meyer Ministries. Our goal is simply to help as many hurting people as we possibly can, to alleviate human suffering and to help Christians grow in their faith. joycemeyer.org/handofhope joycemeyer.org | AUGUST 2 0 1 2 | 17
BY JOYCE MEYER
Do you feel like you are always at war with someone or something? We all face battles in life. But when we put our faith in God and let Him fight for us, He leads us to victory. In the Bible, we can see this through the example of a man named Jehoshaphat. Lets look at 2 Chronicles 20:1-3 (AMP). According to verse 1, Jehoshaphat was facing many enemies: AFTER THIS, the Moabites, the Ammonites, and with them the Meunites came against Jehoshaphat to battle. All of Jehoshaphats enemies were called some sort of ites. Today, we have our own brand of ites, or enemies. It may be the poverty-ites coming against you. Or the sickness-ites or people-ites. There are grouchy neighbor-ites or bad boss-ites, the loneliness-ites or the confusion-ites. There is a seemingly endless list of enemies we could face at different times. When we face an enemy, what are we supposed to do besides fight? Take a look at what Jehoshaphat did in verses 2 and 3. It was told Jehoshaphat, A great multitude has come against you from beyond the [Dead] Sea, from Edom.... Then, Jehoshaphat feared. Now, fear is a typical, natural response that always seems to be what hits us first when we get some bad news. But we dont have to bow down to fear just because we feel it. You dont have to let fear control you. Fear only causes you
joycemeyer.org | AUGUST 2 0 1 2 | 19
to go backwards and not make progress. We have to learn to keep going forward and do it afraid. And thats exactly what Jehoshaphat did. Verse 3 continues, saying that he set himself [determinedly, as his vital need] to seek the Lord; he proclaimed a fast in all Judah. Now look closelyJehoshaphat didnt run around seeking other peoples advice. He set himself determinedly, or made a decision, to seek the Lord. I want to ask you to do what Colossians 3:2 says: Set your minds and keep them set on what is above (the higher things), not on the things that are on the earth. That means you can decide ahead of time what youre going to do in a certain situation, then you will already be prepared to take right action. For example, many of you know my husband Dave really enjoys playing golf. Recently, I asked him how he would respond if golf was somehow taken away from him. This is what Dave said, I have already set my mind that if there ever comes a time when I can no longer play golf, I wont let it bother me. What a wise statement. Many people dont think about preparing ahead of time for something like that. And when a dif cult situation or disappointment occurs, they react with dread and say things like, Oh, I dont know what Im going to do. This is terrible! You can do what Jehoshaphat did the next time you face trouble. You can set your mind to be stable, solid and not react emotionally to fear. Then, your rst response can be to seek God and what He has to say about the situation. The good news is there is no need to fear trouble, because God is on your side. What enemy are you facing today? Maybe you are facing the loneliness-ites, and the devil is sitting on your shoulder saying things like, Nobody loves you. Thats why youre alone. You need to
say, Devil, you are a liar, because God is with me. He said He will never leave me, and I know that I can trust Gods Word. Or maybe you are facing poverty-ites, and youre feeling anxious about your nances. The devil may be telling you things like, You arent going to be able to pay your bills. Debt is going to swallow you up. Again, you can set your mind on Christ and trust His provision for you. You can meditate on scriptures like this one in Philippians 4:19: My God will liberally supply ( ll to the full) your every need according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. You dont have to let these enemies devastate you. Set your mind to trust God and believe His Word. Say aloud, Amid all these things, [I] am more than a conqueror and gain a surpassing victory through Him Who loves [me] (Romans 8:37.) In Christ, you have authority over the enemy no matter what he is bringing against you. Just do what Jehoshaphat did. Set your mind to give the battle over to God and trust that He will give you the victory!

Forgiving Yourself Can Be Just As Healing As Forgiving Someone Else
By Sandra McCollom
y mom recently wrote a book called Do Yourself a Favor Forgive. Now, you would probably expect me to tell you how much I like it because, after all, Joyce is my mother, right? But all kidding aside, I can honestly say that this book has made a huge impact on me. There are many different aspects to forgiveness, which are covered in the book. But there is one chapter in particular that completely jumped out at mechapter 6, which is called Who Are You Angry At? In the first part of the chapter, she specifically talks about being mad at yourself.
Let me explain why this resonated so much with me. Over the years, God has helped me to grow and mature in several areas of my life. Yet recently, I realized I still had a problem and something was still not right. One day, I remember telling God, Im so tired, because I felt like I was always working, working, and still working. You know, I was not able to rest. Even when I would rest on the outside, I felt like I never stopped because I wasnt resting on the inside. I was always looking around for something else to do. God showed me that I was basing so much of my worth and value on what I do. At the end of the day, I would look at my to-do list and be mad at myself about the things I didnt get done. Instead of focusing on all the things I had accomplished, I would beat myself up over the one thing that didnt get checked off the list. It wasnt healthy. I was putting unrealistic and burdensome expectations on myself and getting mad when I couldnt get everything finished. And it took the joy out of life and made me feel like something was wrong with me much of the time, even though I have a great husband and two beautiful children. I was generally happy, but I would sometimes get angry or moody because I was upset with myself for not finishing my to-do list, and these moments made my husbands life miserable at times. It wasnt because I was mistreating him directly. But he used to see me frustrated way too often, and there wasnt really much he could do about it, besides prayer and being the wonderful godly man he is. Thank God he forgave me many times for all the fits I used to throw when
I was mad at myself. And today, my husband says hes never seen such a big change. Our home is now filled with a lot more peace. God has done a really big work in me. And it started shortly before I started reading moms book. It was just like the icing on the cake for me when I realized that I dont have to be mad at myself. Im okay. God loves me just for who I am and who Hes created me to be. I feel like Im born again all over again!
One day, I remember telling God, Im so tired, because I felt like I was always working, working, and still working.

Looking at the list in this scripture, it might be easy to feel overwhelmed by it, thinking you could never have all of those characteristics in your life. But you can. Lets take a closer look at the fruit of the Spirit
1. The very rst phrase of this verse helps us understand the simplicity of the way to live with the fruit of the Spirit. What is the key?
But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! Galatians 5:22,23 NLT
2. Joyce often says that love and self-control are the bookends of the fruit of the Spirit. Explain what this means to you. Can one operate without the other?
REMEMBER:
If you ever begin to feel like youre not progressing fast enough, reread that first phrase in Galatians 5:22 above: The Holy Spirit is the One who produces the fruit in your life. So, relax and enjoy your relationship with God Hes doing the hard partand Hell help you do your part. Dont worry, youre right on track!

Yes, it is true that our country, the United States of America, is in trouble. As Christians who live in the U.S., we have been becoming less and less of an in uence in our government and culture. And, as a result, our freedoms and rights have been systematically stolen from us because of our apathy and our unwillingness to take responsibility. So, why are Christians in America apathetic and not taking responsibility for their nation? The answer is simple Ignorance. Its a sad situation. But here is a point that should give you hopetheres still time to turn things around. And according to Philippians 4:13 (AMP), each of us can say with con dence, I have strength for all things in Christ Who empowers me [I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him Who infuses inner strength into me; I am selfsuf cient in Christs suf ciency]. Notice that this verse doesnt say God will do everything for us. He empowers us to step out and do what is needed.

We cannot expect God to give us another country to move to and start over again.
It is time to quit burying our head in the sand. The knowledge you need can be found right here through our online bookstore. Take a look at the books and DVDs we offer, particularly the book Americas Providential History by Mark A. Beliles and Stephen K. McDowell. That book changed my life and is the reason Im so passionate about this subject. A few other books I highly recommend are Original Intent by David Barton, Red Sky in the Morning by Bill Bright and John Damoose, and Renewing the Soul of America by Charles Crismier. And consider the DVD series The American Heritage and the sequel series called Building on the American Heritage, both by David Barton. If you have questions about our countrys heritage, like, where did we come from? Or, how did our country become so prosperous? These two DVD series provide answers. You should consider these excellent learning tools for yourself, your children and even your pastor. Edmund Burke said, All thats necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing. Good men do nothing when they know nothing. But when they know what to do, they can do whats needed to defeat evil. As more individuals discover their God-given responsibilities through learning about our providential history, God will then collectively work through them to restore the freedoms we have lost.

Ministry Academy Student Charily Melendez Shares a Typical Day in this Training Ground for Gods Calling on My Life.
7:30am
My day began with prayer and worship. I met with 20 other students in corporate prayer for our community and the vision God has given us for the year.
5:00pm
8:30am
Off to classes, which are unlike any Ive had before. The pastors and teachers bring a fresh revelation from the Holy Spirit to each session, and I feel like we are family. After class each student goes to their department.
This evening I worked in Studio 15, a ministry for children from rst to sixth grade. A little rst grader named Makia rode on my back to the classroom and stayed glued to my side the whole night, giving me hugs and smiles the entire time. Some children are so hungry for love and attention that I am reminded its really a privilege to show Gods love to the little ones.
9:00pm
11:00am
Worked with Pastor Aubrey in a ministry called Pastoral Care, where we take care of church members and the community. Today I had to look for a bed and dresser for Michael. His parents asked us for help. Michael is 16 years old and has been diagnosed with lymphocytic leukemia, making furniture hard to afford. I asked the Lord to help me and made a few phone calls. Suddenly my prayers were answered! God came through on a good mattress and box spring for young Michael.
Its 9:45 p.m. now and Im in my room studying for nals. My body aches and its only the beginning of my week. Tomorrow, I get to do it all over again. Being in this training ground can be dif cult at times, but at the end of it all, I love it!!!

Face it, we are all naturally sel sh, so a little help goes a long way when it comes to developing a heart for others. My husband and I wanted to do what we could to instill this quality in our daughters and we knew from our own hard knocks that it doesnt come without a little prodding and planning. I had a huge head start when it came to instilling this love in our children. My parents were prime examples, often heading out for weekend trips to share Christ with other church congregations or taking our church youth group on weeklong mission trips. They made it look fun, so I was anxious when my opportunity came to tag along on a trip to a Native American Indian reservation. I wasnt really old enough to helpbut I was forever hooked. Whether it was in my hometown or across the world, I loved meeting people. Most of all I loved watching them smile and seeing the incredible power of Gods love. I may not have recognized it so clearly then, but when you see rsthand what God can do, youre never the same. One opportunity led to another and with each chance to see those smiles, my capacity to love grew. As a parent I wanted to share that passion with our children, so we looked for opportunities from an early age. They wrote letters to children we sponsored, and we prayed for them as a family each night. Even though they
couldnt go with me on a trip to China, they prayed over each Bible I was delivering. And long before they travelled themselves, they heard stories and saw pictures of the people I had met. Something we shared with the girls along the way was that caring for people isnt always about leaving your neighborhood. You can simply stop what youre doing to help someone in need at the grocery store. Talk about why you tithe and give some of what you have to those in need. And your rst missions trip can be in your own hometown. As the girls got older, their re to help people grew from a spark to a passion. So much so that honestly in the midst of our joy there were moments when we asked, What have we done?
When you pray for God to instill passion, the form it takes is out of your hands.
So let me warn you to be prepared. A summer trip may develop into a desire to live in India. A heart for children may be expressed through an Africa-shaped tattoo. When you pray for God to instill passion, the form it takes is out of your hands. But when is a parent ever really in control anyway? I nd Gods way is always the best.
