Scrum Aide Memoire

Roles
Product Owner (PO)
Resonsible for maximizing value of the product & DT Manages Product Backlog, incl. order One person, not a committee Management position but does not manage ST Removes impediments Servant leader. Facilitates but does not manage Cross-functional and self-managing. Team size 3-9 There are no set project roles within the team Responsible for updating work estimate during Sprint

Based on the Scrum Guide. October 2011 Edn

Scrum (n): A framework within which people can address complex adaptive problems, while productively and creatively delivering products of the highest possible value.

Artifacts
Product Backlog (PB)
Single source of requirements for a project PO solely responsible for content, avail & ordering Only one PB per project, even if multi Scrum teams PO tracks total work left every SR or sooner

Events
The Sprint
Time-box: <= A calendar month. Must be consistent Work on SBI's until "Done" and create a usable & potentially releasable product Increment During Sprint: > No changes made that will affect Sprint Goal > DT composition remains constant (Where poss) > Quality goals do not decrease > Scope may be negotiated between PO & DT Only PO can cancel Sprint before time-box over New Sprint starts immediately after end prior Sprint Sprint is a wrapper around all events below

Miscellaneous
Scrum Team (ST)
Consists of PO, SM & DT Self-organizing and cross-functional Have all skills needed to accomplish the work Varies per Scrum Team Everyone must understand what 'Done' means When Multi Scrum Teams integrate their work it must result in a DoD that is potentially releasable Defined before Sprint Backlog is devised Objective that will be met by implementing SB

Scrum Master (SM)

Definition of Done (DoD)

Sprint Backlog (SB)

Forecast by DT of PBI's to be done for next Increment Evolves during the Sprint Only DT can modify SB during a Sprint DT tracks total work left every Daily Scrum or sooner Sum of all PBI's 'done' during this and prior Sprints

Development Team (DT)

Sprint Goal

Sprint Planning (SP)

For entire Scrum Team (PO optional Pt 2) Time-box: 8 hrs (prop less for shorter Sprint) Divided into two meetings, each 50% of time-box First part of meeting: What will be delivered Second part of meeting: How it will be delivered Plan only for Sprint and not for entire project

Daily Scrum (DS)

For DT. Held same place & time to reduce complexity Time-box: 15 minutes Team update each other on three questions: > What I have done since last Daily Scrum" > What I will do before next Daily Scrum > Any impediments I am facing

Sprint Review (SR)

For Scrum Team and Stakeholders Time-box: 4hrs (prop less for shorter Sprints) Collaborate about what was done in Sprint Collaborate on the next things that could be done Results in revised PB & probable PBI's for next Sprint PO Tracks total project work remaining

Sprint Retrospective (SRet)

For Scrum Team Time-box: 3 hrs (prop less for shorter Sprints) Inspect for improvements to be made for next Sprint Adapt 'DoD' as req'd

Other Definitions
Time-box Sprint Backlog Item (SBI)
The maximum time an event can consume PBI Chosen by DT for the current Sprint SBIs are owned by the DT, never an individual

Other Notes:
Scrum does not have a role called "Project Manager" Scrums roles, artifacts, events, & rules are immutable Scrum Teams should work at a sustainable pace ie: 7 to 8 hours per day

Product Backlog Item (PBI) Product Backlog grooming

An item from the Product Backlog Tend to be larger than corresponding SBIs Act of adding detail, estimates, and order to PBI's Done by PO & DT usually for <= 10% of DT capacity

Scrum Teams often use relative sizing Story Points are often used rather than hours or days Higher ordered PBIs need better estimates DT is responsible for all estimates
