B. FAMILY PLANNING

1. Program Description

This program is directed towards the improvement of the family well being
through the population information and education program and through family
planning methods, but giving respect to the couples’ right and conviction
based on their moral and religious beliefs. The actual beneficiaries of the
program are Filipino families and the direct benefits are the improved family
welfare and reduction of the health problems especially those referring to
children and mothers.

2. Accomplishment

See tables on the succeeding pages.

3. Issues and Concerns

The contraceptive prevalence rate is 28% from FHSIS reports. However, the
results of the community-based monitoring and information system (CBMIS)
show that 72% of women are using family planning methods and are satisfied
with the method they are using. The coverage for new acceptors is 136%,
which is over the target. FHSIS records women who utilize the services of the
health facility. The women who buy their own contraceptive supplies or who
get their family planning services from other health facilities (either private,
hospital, etc.) are not recorded in this facility-based information system.

Clients who preferred Bilateral Tubal Ligation were referred to the Friendly-
Care Clinic in Mandaluyong for PhilHealth members and to the Rizal Medical
Center and Pasig General Hospital for non-PhilHealth members.

4. Recommendations

Strengthen information education and one-on-one counseling

Strengthen follow-up of defaulters

There were 14,148 households surveyed in the entire municipality in 2006, which
is 145 households less than those surveyed in 2005 (14,293 households in 2005).
Barangay Sta. Ana, having the largest land area is also the most populated having
43.08% of the total population. The population density is high at 32,920 persons
per square kilometer.
Based on the 1995 NSO survey, the sex ratio and the dependency ratio are 97%
and 57%, respectively. The 1995 population pyramid shows a wide base,
depicting a young population. There is a widening of the figure at 25 to 29 years,
and this may be a reflection of the rate of in-migration. The municipality is
favorable for settlement by the working population being very near the business
sectors in Makati and Manila.

B. HEALTH STATUS

The vital indices for 2006 are shown in Table 3 & Figure 1. There was no
maternal death reported during the year. There were 224 deaths reported, 121 or
54.01% were males and 103 or 45.09% were females. 15 of these were children
under 5 years old and 9 of these were among the less than 1 year old.
