Besuretoincludetheauthor.(Dontjustchoosethepullquotes.Sometimesquoteswithinthetextcanbe justaspowerful.) 3. Chooseacentralvisualtobasetherestofyourpagefrom.Thisvisualshouldhelptoconveythemainidea, meaning,orthemeofthetext.Thisvisualcanincludeaphotograph,portrait,drawing,flowchart,stylized title,map,graph,timelines,facialexpressions,haiku,etc.Bepreparedtoanswerwhyyouchosethevisual youdid. 4. Selecttwopoliticalcartoonsfromthetext.(Iftherearenotenoughcartoons,chooseapaintingor photographfromthetimeperiod.).Answerthefollowingquestions: Describetheactionthatistakingplaceinthecartoon. Explainthemessageofthecartoon. Whatspecialinterestgroupswouldagree/disagreewiththemessage? 6. Choosewhichsubheading(boldprint,redunderlinedintext)youthinkismostimportantandexplainwhy, inyourownwords,youbelievethis. 7. Includeapersonalresponsetothetext.Whatwasmostimportant,interesting,surprising,upsetting,etc? Why? 8. ExaminingtheEvidenceIfthissectionisincludedthetext,outlinethequestionbeingexamined,the evidence,andtheanswer.Whydoyouthinkitisrelevant? 9. MakersofAmericaIfthissectionisincludedinthetext,giveabriefoutlineofthegroupofpeoplebeing discussed,wheretheywerelocated,andwhatroletheyplayedinthemakingofAmerica. 10. VaryingViewpointsifthissectionisincludedinthetext,giveabriefoutlineoftheargumentsofthetwo sides,andthentellwithwhichyouagree.
