Pearls and china. What do pearls and china have to do with our May/June
newsletter? They are symbols of commitment—the traditional gifts for
significant anniversaries, which we are thrilled to be celebrating this season.
Ron and Nancy had their 30th wedding anniversary in May, and this August
will be the 20th anniversary of the founding of Architectural Systems, Inc.
Those two milestones have put the feeling of commitment in the air.
We’re committed to having the best showroom for you to find inspiration from
our new, innovative and award-winning materials as well as a venue to attend
our informative monthly CEU presentations and Pop the Cork events. Thanks
to everyone who stopped by our Open House during ICFF! You can still
register for the CEU on July 1st and if you can’t come to us, we can bring a
presentation to you. We have also implemented a new series of product blasts to keep you up to date on WHAT’S NEXT® (If
you didn’t get the Tropical Organic Wall Mosaic blast, click here.) In the meantime, we will now be moving to a bi-monthly e-
newsletter and our Marketing department is keeping our Facebook page current and fresh (Are you a friend yet? Click here to
join our group)
With our responsibility in sharing the expertise we’ve learned from working with some of the most creative people in the
industry, Nancy’s trend-forecasting column in Architectural Products will start this month (read full article below). And in our
commitment to sustainability, we now have the ASI Binder Volume 10.1 and the Sustainable Products brochure on a USB
stick for convenience…and to save paper, of course! Request yours here.
Our dedication to leadership persists in all of our work with the organizations that strive to support our industry. In fact, we
now have a date for the PAVE (Planning and Visual Education Partnership) Gala, of which Nancy Jackson is Vice President
of the Gala and PAVE board member. Mark your calendars: Dec 9 at the Metropolitan Pavilion, details to follow. Nancy, an
IIDA NY Chapter board member, co-chaired a very successful IIDA Hospitality Forum this month at Greenhouse nightclub as
well as attended the IIDA Leaders Breakfast. She was recently sworn in for her second term as an active participant on the
board of IIDA NY. ASI also exhibited at the HD Expo, an important trade show for hospitality design, and Nancy and Ron
were guests at the HD Awards (see below for more on these events). In general, you can be assured that when you specify a
product from ASI, we have taken all the worry out of the equation. We are committed to our clients, products, company, each
other, and to you!

This year’s Hospitality Design Expo in Las Vegas proved to be productive for both the
exhibitors and high quality attendees. There were many new projects we came away
with that are on the board and we have to attribute it to our latest products which drew
such excitement and developed many design ideas. We introduced Tropical Organic
Wall Mosaic, inspired by the popular Tropical Veneer Collection, and gave a sneak
peek of the Geometrix™ Collection, an expansion to our Embossed Wood, also from
ASI Wood Panels. ASI updated our booth with a “Green Garden” – see which ASI
materials can grow into your sustainable design! With our commitment to sustainability and meeting our client’s needs, we are
working hard at developing new green products, as well as transitioning current collections into sustainable ones. Our new
eco-friendly products include: ASI Hardwood Flooring IV (look for our upcoming product blast!); Eco-Essence®, and Cork
Flooring. Products that have undergone a sustainable makeover include: ASI Resilient flooring which is now comprised of
recycled content and regional material, and meets indoor air quality requirements; and ASI Porcelain Collection which now
uses recycled content and meets indoor air quality requirements! For more on HD Expo and the prestigious HD Platinum

Since there was a show overlap we were unable to host a booth at the ICFF this year.
Instead we invited attendees into the showroom for another one of our incredibly fun
Pop the Cork parties where we mix drinks, materials and networking in an evening of
very agreeable multi-tasking! We had a strong presence in Metropolis’ ICFF Design
Guide, where Architectural Systems showroom was highlighted on the map as a place
to visit during ICFF, and our ad announcing our Open House brought in lots of
customers – new and old! We’re looking forward to more of our Pop the Cork series—what could be better than seeing
friends and getting inspired by new materials, all capped off with some festive celebration? Look for details on our next
Launch Party honoring our forthcoming ASI Hardwood Flooring IV.
After opening cocktails and the welcoming introduction, the fascinating collection of panelists began their discussion,
moderated by Rebecca Goldberg, Editor-in-Chief of boutique DESIGN/Creative Director, Boutique Media Group . The
panelists included: Gina Edner, Senior Manager, Department of Environmental Sustainability at Starwood Hotels and Resorts;
Antonio Di Oronzo, Owner of Bluarch, architect for Greenhouse; Joseph Martorano, President, eco.nomiks; Annie Lee, Senior
Project Designer, Cubellis. What an interesting and creative group! For more on the sponsors and other IIDA events,

IIDA NY Chapter held its annual meeting and board member inductions on June 24th
in conjunction with the Lester Dundes Awards at the Haworth showroom in midtown
Manhattan. Nancy Jackson, President of Architectural Systems, was sworn in for her
second term as an active participant on the board of IIDA NY, for which she is also the
Hospitality Forum co-chair, and sponsor of their events. Nancy and Ron Jackson both
recognize the importance of industry partnerships and are strong supporters of
continuing education. To see who the design award winners were and details on the

Our eye-catching green window display on 25th Street drew a lot of people into the
showroom to Pop the Cork during the ICFF. We’ve also been busy in the showroom
with a Cinco de Mayo visit from Jeffrey Beers International, and another successful
sustainable design CEU — Spotlight on Sustainable Products: The Benefits
and Challenges of Their Integration into Contract Environments. It is
presented monthly in our showroom by president, Nancy Jackson, and earns one of
the four new Sustainable Design credits that are required for architects. Our doors are open for you to come for a showroom
presentation, but we can always bring a presentation to your office, either way, it’s a great time to catch Nancy’s fresh and
fascinating AIA -accredited CEU at your place or ours! You can register for the July or August CEU here. You can also earn
credits online with our Innovations of Materials video presentation on the web, click to register. [read more]
Recently we had a terrific response from daSILVA Architects and GF55 Architects when we took our
sustainable design CEU directly to them! Len Fusco, Principal of GF55 (pictured right), "felt it was
extremely valuable for his staff to have this continuing education experience, and that
the LEED requirements were presented in an informative and concise way. The
presentation told the whole story but the team now wants to see even more products!"
A follow up visit to the ASI showroom is in the works…call 212.206.1730x249 if you would like to schedule a
visit for your design team.
Nancy Jackson’s debut column in Architectural Products magazine’s June issue focused on the trends
seen in hardwoods, especially at the Surfaces show. The most prominent were: sustainability, new texture
techniques, simple colors and enhanced finishes. ASI products which demonstrate these traits were
pictured along with the article. They included, Ecotextures® Flooring and Wood Panels for their
sustainability, dark color availability and texture; European Hardwood Collection with Fine Sawn texture;
and VenCork™ Flooring for its complete eco-friendly make-up, down to the finish and adhesives. Click
here for full article.
Nancy and Ron Jackson were also in attendance as Hospitality Design (HD) magazine
honored the winners and finalists at the fifth annual HD Awards. The awards program
received 398 submissions in categories ranging from luxury hotel to resort to spa. It
was thrilling to see projects that ASI worked on, and a pleasure to socialize with all the designers Architectural Systems has
built relationships with over the years. [read more]
Ron and Nancy were on hand for NeoCon World’s Trade Fair (the National Exposition
of Contract Furnishings), which happens to be the largest exhibition of contract
furnishings for the design and management of the built environment in North America.
Although attendance was down this year, the energy was still evident! It’s always
terrific to see what’s happening with the latest trends, products, and concepts in office,
healthcare, hospitality, residential, institutional and government environments. It also
provided a great opportunity for Ron and Nancy to meet with important customers to discuss projects and have some quality
face to face time. We’re already looking forward to 2010, which will be the show’s 42nd year!
We are ecstatic about our new Industry Member partnership with the American
Society of Interior Designers (ASID). ASID and Architectural Systems, Inc. will
work together harmoniously as we share a common love for design and are committed to the belief that design, as a service
to people, is a powerful, multi-faceted profession that can positively change people's lives. Founded in 1975, the American
Society of Interior Designers is the oldest, largest and leading professional organization for interior designers, and we're truly
looking forward to collaborating with them!
