Organic Value Chain and Marketing Program Coordinator

Organic Alberta is seeking a candidate that has experience simultaneously managing multiple projects and has experience working and building engagement with a diverse group of people and businesses to achieve a common goal. Organic Alberta is a membership driven non-profit association. We represent organics in Alberta and strengthen the organic community through leadership, networking, education, communication and advocacy. Organic Livestock Value Chain Development Responsibilities A value chain is all of the businesses involved in adding value to a particular product. For the Organic Livestock value chains, this includes farmers involved in various stages (such as cow-calf, backgrounding and finishing), and the businesses involved in processing, distribution, marketing and retailing. The coordinator will work with the various organic livestock value chains to facilitate growth, with a particular emphasis on the organic beef sector. This includes but is not limited to: Working with the members of each value chain to identify areas that can be improved upon and to strategically plan for the future. Connecting organic businesses with resources to succeed and expand. Developing programs to increase supply and build value chain capacity including working with transitioning producers, mentorship programs, coordinating workshops, and creating opportunities for networking. Working with processors and retailers to develop retail opportunities for organic products. Consumer education programs. Creating partnerships with government and other agricultural organizations. Alberta Organic Food Marketing Campaign Responsibilities Based on consumer research and in consultation with the organic sector, Organic Alberta has developed an Alberta Organic Food marketing campaign. The program coordinator will further develop and implement this campaign. This includes but is not limited to: Coordinating marketing programs. Working with organic businesses to implement the campaign within their marketing materials. Building partnerships with other organizations and businesses.

Qualifications: Candidate should have a minimum of 3 years experience in project management with a strong track record of strategic and creative thinking and building stakeholder engagement. Education and/or equivalent experience in communications, social sciences, and/or agriculture. Strong networking, coordination and organizational skills. Strong oral and written communication skills in English. Ability to travel and work evening and weekends when required. Assets Marketing and communications background. Experience in event coordination. Experience in partnership development. Knowledge of agricultural production, especially livestock. Knowledge of the organic sector. Interest in local and organic food. This is a 2-year full time position, based out of our Edmonton office. Start date: End of October, 2013. Salary to be determined depending on background and experience.
