Dark Matter: The Descent By Terry Starker Platform and Information: Dark Matters: The Descent is a suspense story in role-playing game format. The platform to be used is a PC with the RPG Maker program that can be downloaded from the Internet. It will use simple mechanics and be family friendly with an underlying dark storyline. There is also a gothic style art and architecture in the city. This is a continuous game that is ongoing. Background: The years have past and the technology we have come to use is all but gone. The world is destroyed. The city of Paris France is the central commerce connection of the world. Promise of a new beginning for the human race has been crushed for a second time with the Descended, those creatures that rule from above our own universe. There are many features still recognizable in Paris such as the Eiffel Tower and the Cathedral of Notre Dame. Much of the architecture has regressed as the technology did. Time has been lost, the date beyond the year of 2300. The land around Paris is in most cases uninhabitable. Plot Summary: Our hero enters the world at the main entrance to the once evolved city of Paris. He is on a journey trying to find a place safe enough to live. He has no known family, at least none he will talk about. Upon entering the city the player will discover there is a dark secret in the city. He will find out the descended ones have come down to enslave the human race. Lord Argyle, a tall man with large black-feathered wings on his back, vows to have the entire human race bows down to him in servitude. There are few people who are willing to talk to the player as he travels deeper into the city. Clues are gathered along the way and many lower levels beneath the city become known. About a third of the way through the game the hero encounters Lord Argyle for the first time. Up to this point the player will have encountered many minions of Lord Argyle. Now, with the main instrument of evil identified it is up to the hero to stop what Lord Argyle is doing and free the human race from his influence. The final battle will take place in many stages. First of all the player will need to find the proper weapon to kill Lord Argyle. The fist encounter will be on the Eiffel Tower and then will flow down into the streets. Finally the last blow will come to Lord Argyle below the city streets of Paris. With Lord Argyle finally defeated, its unclear when he is dead the people of Paris have a short time to rejoice before the next evil comes to town.

Dark Matter: The Descent World Background By Terry Starker Almost everyone walks around on the planet. There is limited transportation other than walking to speak of. The only usable transportation is through a physical mechanical working with gears or through steam power. Even with the knowledge of steam, not everyone has the ability to produce a working steam powered vehicle. This is where the horse in making a comeback. The horse allows people the ease of getting to one city or another but you have to remember that not everyone can afford a horse. This is why walking is the main form of transportation. The old money markets no longer exist on Earth, as we know it today. Many people will not exchange any items for paper currency so this commodity is no longer use. In fact there are some buildings where people who had a lot of this paper money left over from before the way used it as wallpaper in their home. Precious and nonprecious metals have replaced most forms of currency exchange. Anything from gold, copper, brass, aluminum and platinum has been fashioned into some form of coin for exchange. The more common metals make cheaper coins that are ease to create and therefore the poor areas have more of these coins whereas the stronger neighborhoods with people doing a little better have the more precious metals for their coins. With the separation of money and precious metals the new district leadership has split into different areas of the cities to control the people as they see fit. The district leadership controls what currency is used in their sector only by dealing with the other leaders and the control is usually in the hands of a Head Leader. With coins being created by different people and cities this can make trading a little difficult between the few larger cities left, as they usually want to trade for something of value (Nova, 1996). Not everyone knows how to read or write with education almost non-existent. The younger generation prevails on Earth as everyone over the age of twenty was recruited and fought in the Great War. Most of the older generation was wiped out by the Descended. Millions of children lost their parents and were left to die. This led to the lack of schools and therefore the lack of basic skills such a reading, writing and arithmetic. Rune script is now the most prominent type of writing depicting pictures and simple images to convey an idea (Gascoigne, 2001). Doctoring skills have deteriorated in the past ten years. This is obvious due to the lack of formal education. Though there are a few new unusual skills that have advanced in medicine in the form of elixirs. This technology was brought to Earth by the Descended and has been picked up by a few humans who understand the complicated and technical language. Because of the complications with making many of these elixirs, they are expensive and therefore out of reach to the common person who lives in the poor neighborhood of the cities. Weapons are limited to blades and other items found around anywhere. The bladed weapons come in many forms but are mostly swords and daggers and other weapons before the creation of gunpowder (McDonald, 2010). Most of all most players will be searching for that right weapon for their character to fight and defend themselves. Bladed weapons are easier to make then complicated mechanical or chemical weapons from the past. Most of this technology has been lost. Other weapons are blunted types like staves

OPENING CUTSCENE ACT ONE FADE IN: EXT. DESERT - DAY A sand storm blows across the arid desert. The vegetation is sparse. The heat of the sun beats down from above. NARRATOR The year is 2039. The human race, almost extinct, are enslaved by a race of beings known as, The Descended Ones. ERIC RIFF, 28, wearing sunglasses, hooded cloak, with broad shoulders and an average build. VIEW FROM ERIC Eric walks slowly through the storm. Visibility is low. NARRATOR (CONTD) There are a few pockets of humans who survive in the wasteland who are willing to fight for humanities freedom. ClOSE ON VIEW Right foot of Eric as he steps on a large deformed scorpion causing it to crunch under his weight. TITLE: DARK MATTER DISSOLVE TO: EXT. PARIS - CONTINUOUS The heat SHIMMERS off of the high stone walls built around the remainder of Paris. NARRATOR After a decade of war, only a few cities are left. Now used as a place of sanctuary for the Descended Ones, these cities are also prisons to the human race. FULL ON VIEW OF CITY

2. The city is sitting in a desert. Tumbleweeds roll by. Eric slowly walks through the sand storm heading towards the main gate of the city. NARRATOR (CONTD) Though some are bound to the Descended Ones, they still fight to free those who deserve a second chance. CLOSE ON ERICS FACE His face is partially covered by a hooded cloak. The wind makes the edges of the hood waver. WIDE VIEW OF CITY The sand storm sweeps across the main gate to the city. FULL VIEW OF GATE AND TWO GUARDS TWO CITY GUARDS watch intensely as Eric appears through the sand storm. He moves closer to the city gate. CUT TO: EXT. CITY GATE - CONTINUOUS GUARD ONE makes a motion with his hand pointing at Eric. GUARD ONE (TO GUARD TWO) Hey, look what the storm brought in. GUARD TWO A scavenger? GUARD ONE Whatever hes looking for, hes not getting it in my town. Your town? Quiet. CLOSE ON ERIC Eric stops in front of the city gate. The two guards block his way into the city. GUARD TWO GUARD ONE

3. GUARD TWO You cant come in here! Eric stands still. GUARD ONE Are you deaf? Leave! VIEW OVER THE RIGHT SHOULDER Eric reaches over his shoulder with his left hand, grabbing the sword he is carrying. VIEW OF LEFT SIDE OF JACKET With his right hand, Eric pulls two throwing stars from his left inner jacket pocket. CLOSE ON ERICS RIGHT HAND Two throwing stars leaving the right hand of Eric. Each guard attempts to draw their swords. One star hits guard two in the neck. Guard Two falls over dead. Guard One begins to run towards Erics. ERIC (WHISPERS) Please, dont. Erics blade clangs against the guards blade. Eric spins around and slices the guard in two pieces. ERIC (CONTD) I can hear you just fine. CLOSE ON BODY LOOKING TOWARDS GATES Body lying on the ground. In the background Eric is walking through the main gate of the city, his back is towards the camera. Eric places his sword into its sheath hanging from his back. WIPE TO: EXT. STREETS OF PARIS - CONTINUOUS A CHILD, 8, dirty with old ripped clothes on, sits in the street with his hand held out in front of him.

4. CHILD Please sir, can you help us? Eric stops and looks at the young boy. The sky turns dark, the ground shakes. Eric looks at the Eifel Tower still standing in the middle of Paris. Dark clouds stream from the top of the tower. ARGYLE, a large muscular man with huge black feathered wings, hangs onto the side of the tower. His thunderous voice can be heard throughout the city. ARGYLE You will bow down to me! PULL BACK FROM ARGYLE Argyle channeling lightning through his arms, spreading into the dark sky. A bolt of lighting slams down into the street next to Eric making a loud BOOM. CLOSE ON ERIC Stunned, lying on his stomach in the street, begins to move while looking through the dust stirred by the lighting. Debris and dust fall all around Eric. CAMERA LOOKING UP TO CHILD The child begins to change into a tall grotesque human. His skin begins pealing from every part of his body. The two guards Eric killed moments ago, are standing behind Eric looking as grotesque as the child. CLOSE ON ARGYLE Argyle continues his demands. ARGYLE (CONTD) Bow down to me! ERIC (ANGERED) I will make sure the Descended Ones fall. Starting with you! Eric jumps into the air and pulls his sword. The two guards behind Eric move towards him. Eric spins around and kills both of the guards with one swing of his sword. Eric places his blade on the throat of the grotesque child and pauses.

5. ARGYLE You wont be able to stop my, entire army. Eric spins around and looks at Argyle. CLOSE ON ERIC ERIC Argyle! I am coming for you! FADE OUT. THE END
