Report Writng
The word report comes from the Latin word reportare, which means to bring back. Gradually, it has evolved to mean a gathered information, based on evidence. It is, usually, a piece of communication. In a report, a person conveys certain facts, ideas or suggestions to another person who wants to use it. A report is formal in nature. It has a specific aim. It is based on facts. It provides information on a particular topic and contains conclusion or recommendation (s), if required. There are various forms of reports - police report, newspaper report, inquiry report, project report, laboratory report, annual report, inspection report, etc.

.EATURES O. A GOOD REPORT


1. Precision : While writing a report, be precise and exact in stating your ideas. Precision imparts unity and coherence to a report. 2. Factual Details : Give detailed and factual description. Inaccurate facts may prove to be very damaging. 3. Relevance : The facts stated in your report should not only be accurate but relevant also. Irrelevant details make a report confusing and misleading. 4. Reader-oriented: While drafting a report, keep in mind the target audience. A report meant for common people will be different from the one meant for experts. 5. Clarity : Be clear in stating the purpose and findings and making recommendations. Give headings to short paragraphs, if necessary. Proper arrangement of facts leads to clarity. 6. Language : Write in simple and grammatically correct language. Dont use figures of speech and high-sounding words and involved sentences. 7. Brevity clarity : Be brief and to the point, but brevity should not be at the 8. Homogeneity : Focus on only one topic in your report. 9. Format : Use proper format. Technical reports use complex Formats.

.ormal Report
A formal report is often written in a letter format. In many respects, it is like a letter. Like a letter, it includes date, a formal mention of the subject. But unlike the letter, it does not need to mention the complete addresses of the sender and the recipient. Only names, designations and departments are mentioned. The paragraphs are numbered (1, 2, 3) and sub-points in a paragraph are numbered in decimals (1.1, 1.2, 1.3 etc.). The format of a Formal Report is given below:

Till then public forced a lot of inconvenience.

2. Students strike for books The students in our city called out a strike. Textbooks were not supplied to them even after the schools started a month ago. They were shouting slogans for books. They held a rally, stopped vehicles. Some students removed air from the tyres of vehicles. Police arrived and arrested some of the agitators. Later they were all let off from the station. 3. Prayer for rains In our city there was no rain for three years. There was a great difficulty for surface water and ground water. There were no crops for want of water. Everywhere there was famine. There was no grass and fodder for animals to eat. So many animals died. People discussed the situation widely. They went to an open place in the city. They all worshiped God for rains. 4.Wasting of water In our area people are wasting much water for a long time taps have no regulators to stop the water. So a lot of water gathered all over the roads. Somewhere pipes are leaking continuously. Drinage water is getting mixed into drinking water lines and pipes. Mosquitoes are multiplying in the stagnant water. They are causing health hazards. 5. Cyclone disrupted lives Recent cyclone had hit our area. Many houses were filled with water crops in the field were cut off and completely damaged. There was no food and drinking water. Government officials rushed to this place. Surveyed the area. They started supplying water and food packets. As there are many people they need to wait for a long time to get the help. People are rushing towards help-centres. 6. Republic Celebrations In our school Republic Day celebrations were held grandly. Many students participated in games, sports and other competitions. A special group of students attended the parade in the uniforms. Our national flag were hoisted by the Headmaster. Good speeches were given by the teachers and guests. Later prizes were given to the winners of different competitions. Sweets were distributed to the students. Finally cultural programme were held. Everybody present felt happy. 7. Fear of AIDS - suicide A Father in our colony committed suicide in fear of AIDS. He suffered sickness for a long time. His wife and children were in hopeless situation. They were ill treated by people of that area. The mother is not allowed to work. She had no source of earning money. So they starved for somedays. The local health authorities visited them and assured the people living there that AIDS is not contagious by simple touch and talk. 8. Tanker turned down In our area an edible oil tanker turned down unfortunately. Fortunately the driver was not wounded oil started flowing out heavily. Many people of the area came there with cans, bottles and big dishes. Some people came withs sponges and dipped them in the oil flowing on the ground and collected oil. Driver informed the matter to the police. The police had arrived lately and drune the people away.

9. Free health camps In our colony a voluntary organisation conducted a health camp. Nearly 500 patients were benefited. Ten doctors took part in the health camp. Bundles of medicine was given to the patients. Free tests of sugar, urine and others were conducted. The health camp was supported by the NRIs of the local area. People who were benefited thanked all the donars for their great help. 10. Vehicle Theft My vehicle was stolen in the last night. I kept it in the varandah as usual. In the morning I found the gate was broke-opened and the vehicle was missing. It was TVS brand vehicle, bearing number AP2741. It was blue and 2001 model. Immediately in the morning I made a complaint to the police. THey visited the site and enquired neighbours too. They asked me to tell them some names of the people whom I suspects. 12. APOSS - Distance Education I visited my APOSS study centre at Markapur. Fifty-five students attended the classes. Classes are generally held on Sundays, Second Saturdays and other public holidays. Teachers who were on duty at the centres briefed the lessons. They clarified the doubts rised by the students. They gave study books, cassettes to the students. Students there saw OHP shows. They all learnt the lessons and enjoyed. They answered the assignments. 13.A trip to the city We visited Hyderabad city in summer holidays. There I saw Zoo, Musuem, Ramoji film city, Ocean park, Tank bund, Hussain Sagar and Birla mandir. We travelled by a hire-car. We felt happy. We stayed sometime in relatives house and sometime in friends houses. They all treated us well. We got number of Photos, we spent a lot of money too. Really we enjoyed the trip. 14. I lost the bus I was on journey to Delhi. The bus stopped at certain place. Many people got down had my tiffin and left for bus. The bus had departed from the point. My luggage was in the bus, I contacted the controller of the station. He sent the message to the next station, and stopped the bus. Luckily I could reach that station by another bus. The luggage was there safely in the bus. The conductor apologized me. 15.Shifting of blame My friend was sick. I took him to the hospital. The nurse gave him injection. THe injection caused severe reaction. My friend suffered irritation and itch. The doctor responded immediately and gave some medicine timely. He recovered slowly The parents of my friend scolded the doctor. The doctor said that it was not his fault. I turn he blamed the nurse. The nurse said that it was not her fault. In turn she blamed the chemist for supplying expired medicine . 16.108 - Works Even Night It was night-time, my neighbour was suffering from heart-pain. I rang to 108 ambulance. It arrived in minutes. It took him to the nearest hospital. The doctor gave first aid treatment and medicine. He advised us to take him to the super-speciality hospital where the patient get advanced treatment. We hired an Ambulance and rushed to the hospital. There the specialits conducted many tests and started treatment. The patient was put in I.C.C.U. However, he recovered slowly. We all thanked the God. 100

17. Self-Help - The Best Help Fire accident took place in our area last night. Unfortunately the wind was blowing heavily, so the fire was spreading to all directions. Immediately we telephoned to the fire-station. We badly heard that the fire-engine was under repair. We thought for a while and called all our friends who had bores in their houses. We switched on the motors and connected all lines to the accident place. Slowly the situation was controlled people thanked me and our friends for our timely thought and help. 18. Be aware of cheat, who comes for vote It was election time political leaders were visiting houses. They were giving money promising favours. They came to our house too and were ready to give money. My parents are about to take the money. But I objected both of them and told the value of vote. My parents realised the fault and learnt from me. I told them to practise principles before we preach them. I told them not to let others buy you and buyer shouldnt be our bosses. 19. Dont make yourself zero and others hero A new film is released very recently in our town. People lined up for kilometers for tickets. But ticket were being sold in the black-market at higher rates. So many students were in the queue. They left their books in the school. It was clear that they were wasting both money and time for no benefit. I told many of my friends there, that heros never help and come to your resque. But common people show blind love towards heros. Heros never risk their lives. 20. A Minister - A mini - star Fortunately our MLA became minister in recent elections. After he took over charge he came to the constituency for the first time. Crowds of people gathered shouting slogans and greetings. Some people were throwing flowers and someothers were garlanding him. The traffic stood still police were unable to control the mob. In the meeting the minister made million promises. The meeting lasted for many hours and ended after several hours in the night. 21. A mishap in the trip An english businessman was on a trip to Malysia. He was travelling in a hired car. Suddenly there was a big storm. He couldnt drive drive further the stopped the car by roadside. When the car was parked along the road a big snake entered the car. The snake wound round the man it was getting difficult for him to breath. He tried to kill it by smashing its head to the door. But he couldnt fortunately a lorry came by the way. A lorry for whom the incident was normal cut off its head The businessman thanked the driver. The lorry driver took away the snake. 22. How kind is kids mind I visited Mrs. Beams school which is different from other schools. I saw some children whose eyes were bandaged and led by others. I saw someother children whose legs were tied up and were limping. I saw someother children whose legs were tied up and were limping. I saw someother children who were deaf, dumb and crippled. But they all look good and happy. I talked to them and asked about their misfortune. Later I came to know that these children are good and living in the roles of misfortune. Then only we understand the real pain and purpose of life.

23. Short circuit-smashed the market Nearly 60 shops were gutted in a major fire mishap near Tirumala bus stand during the early hours of Monday officials suspect short-circuit might have caused the fire breakout. They said this was the first major fire accident in Tirumala. It was estimated that loss was about Rs. 70 lakhs most of the shops were destroyed as huge stocks of plastic sheets, toys and photo frame were filed up. However people were not injured. 24. A Rare Ballet A seventh annaul festival of Andhra Music academic held at Harihara Kala Bhavan last week brought into focus rare Kuchipudi talent P. Rajeswari and group from Warangal performed a dance ballet on Kalidasas Megha sandesam. It indeed stole the hearts of dance lovers. I enjoyed it with all my friends. 25. Students war over Telugu, English On Saturday, the Osmania University campus saw a telugu versus english were among two groups of students. Language experts gathered to press the government for promotion of telugu among students community. They demanded the government to fill 150 telugu teaching posts. Then another group opposed it supporters of English shouted anti-telugu slogans. Their contention was that only English could brighten up employment prospects. They distributed pamphlets in support of their argument. Police had arrived and the normally was restored. 26. Child labour system - A wild custom A voluntary organisation which was authorised by the government conducted raids on factories and companies. They identified nearly zoo children working in pitiable situations in Bombay city. They freed the children. Some children who were very poor and no parents were sent to the orphange other children were sent to their homes. The voluntary organisation provided financial help to the children for their studies. Cases were filed against the factories and companies. Licences were cancelled and fine was imposed as per the law.
